RC: been listening to a few of liebrand's grandmixes. must say i'm very impressed - kinda like Holland's version of the Hotmix 5 - except it's just one dude.playing less chi-house/d techno but more italo Those Grandmixes were some piece of work: he usually worked on one mix for over a month before he had the perfect version, cramming in over 100 tracks in less than an hour. Like you said, a lot of italo/funk/disco and for me, late December was always to time to be glued to the rdaio, waiting for the Grandmix to be aired. Ah, memories :) More info: http://www.liebrand.nl he did some cool remixes in the 80's and then disappeared.. does anyone know what happened? or have any of the dutch 313ers had the pleasure of seeing him play out? In the early 90s he became somewhat involved in the hardcore scene, doing remixes for Rotterdam Termination Source ('Poing') etc. I've never seen him play out, but from what I heard he's playing rather horrible trance these days :( Otto
RE: (313) ben liebrand?
Ben liebrand... World famous in holland... I think he started out in the early eighties with this non stop mix program every Friday night called in the mix. In 1983 he did his first Grandmix in a series of 10. The last annual mix was the Grandmix of 1992... Also he did a remix kind of thing for a radio program every Friday night, called a minimix a total rework. He had big hits with he rework of Bill Withers Lovely day, Alexander O Neal Criticize and that Alf record. In holland there still is a bug mix community: mixgroups.yahoo.com He posts there on a regular basis. I think he still plays out, I see his name on Dance Classics parties regularly... As I was sitting here listening to the Mayday mix, I got to the end and heard Meditive Fusion and thought Note that Kenny Larkin has nothing to do with the last track Derrick May plays in his mayday mix. There are 3 tracks on transmat 020, he plays the A-side and mixes it with the B1. It is the B2 that is by Kenny Larkin... just an error on the tracklisting me thinks. (313) Shifted Phases - Drexciya
I got the Shifted Phases The Cosmic Memoirs of the Late Great Rupert J Rosinthrope (Tresor) CD a couple of days ago and noticed that the last tune is called Flux but it's the same tune as Son if the Green Whale from the Harnessed the Storm release. I haven't figured out if there are any identifiable differences in the versions (beyond the titles) - anyone know? It's a cool CD - if you like Harnessed the Storm I think you'll find this as good if not better. Really shows that Mr. Stinson was breaking into new territories when he was left this world. The title is a bit weird though - does anyone know if this was a title he gave this release or if this was something that Tresor came up with after his death? MEK
