Now and then I end up in a place where there is tt's and some jungle/dnb
records. I like the fact that it's more easy to do tricks with broken
beats than it is with house/techno/anything with steady beat. IMHO the
tricks fit more easily in the jungle/dnb mix than house/techno.

No, I'm not tossing away my steady beats yet ;)

Just putting a quick word on the record about our 04 see-in :

Many thanks to all who attended - and thanks for coming to virtually
everything we did last year too, most of you!

Have to single out Hazell and Max for extra dankes for pulling out all the
stops as usual and contributing to the severe messiness of the night (I'm
still hearing scandalous stories about what some of you got up to! ;-)

Emile put together his rocking, electro-hip-hop-techno live set in a just
one day and more than one industry-related bod mentioned that it was the
kind thing that they'd heard was being signed up left right and centre. Now
that's talent. I'll be hearing AC/DC and The Stone Roses for many weeks to
come in my head after Toby's seminal wrap-up and clever midnight trick!

Watch this (and other spaces, including the website) for what bleep43.com is
up to this year and thanks to everyone for all your support in 03.

(313) Terrence Parker / Intangible Soundworks

2004-01-05 Thread chris.anglesey

Hello 313 Peepz,

Just wondered whether any of you could help me out with some Terrence Parker /
Intangible info. I've just got
turned onto a couple of his records which I love (Tribute
e.p and Love Got Me High). Can anyone recommend anything
else that he released on Intangible or other labels that's in the same league
as these 2 ?

Also if there's anything released by other artists on Intangible which are
'must-haves' then please let me know
about these as well.

I've been into Detroit stuff for years but am only catching onto his stuff now
for some reason. He never seemed to get the publicity that the other Detroit
artists received in Europe which strikes me as odd, seeing that his stuff is up
there with the best of them.

Thanks - Any help appreciated.

Chris.

Every DJ should use Final Scratch. You lose nothing and gain so much.

I tend to think DJs are not too savy when it comes to new developments as
this thing should be being used by all the big names.

It's been rigorously tested for over 3 years in demandind

passed reliability and sound quality tests.

The only reason I can see putting off DJs, is the protracted process of
recording all music into the computer and turning it into MP3 format.

I was thinking of starting a business offering this service :)

You bleep guys should go ahead and buy it. If you get it from the States

2004-01-05 Thread Ivars Mednis
actually i am amazed what Traktor can do. i recently obtained
notebook and installed this nice proggie. I used notebook+Traktor as
3rd deck in addition to 2x turntables for a few gigs and was feeling very
comfortable with it
(especially if you assign all the keyboard shortcuts nicely).

the looping feature is very nice, you can automatically assign 1, 4, 8
and 16 bar loops and if there is a certain part of the track you like
very much, you just loop it and seemlesly rewind back. or just
start same track on other virtual deck and do just like doubles :)

ixi

p.s. and please no 'vinyl vs. digital' flame again! =)

It's been rigorously tested for over 3 years in demandind
 situations and its
passed reliability and sound quality tests.

The only reason I can see putting off DJs, is the protracted process of
recording all music into the computer and turning it into MP3 format.

I was thinking of starting a business offering this service :)

You bleep guys should go ahead and buy it. If you get it from
the States
now, it's even better value seeing as their currency is not too
 strong right
 now.

Get it before the Americans inevitably put up their prices.

 Take it easy!

(313) Detroit ipod installation at G.A.S.

2004-01-05 Thread John Culhane (GC)
Happy New Year,

There is this huge music archive called the 313 Jukebox which features
music from Detroit at Gigantic Artspace down on Franklin Street. It's
through January.

http://www.giganticartspace.com

This is from the intro:

Introduction from installation:
Though far removed from America's so-called cultural capitals, Detroit is
hardly just a down-on-its-luck Rust Belt factory town; in fact, the Motor
City has been arguably the country's most important musical municipality
over the last half century, breeding ground to some of the world's most
potent movements: Motown soul, funk, punk, heavy metal, and techno, as well
as currently being home to hip-hop's biggest star and a flourishing garage
rock scene. The iPods in this installation are programmed with selections
providing an audio overview of the last five decades of Detroit area music,
a nearly 20 hour mix-tape of some of the finest and most essential
recordings in pop music history. Put on some earphones and scroll through
the songs, and you'll discover that Martha Reeves had nothing to worry
about; when it comes to music, forgetting the Motor City is absolutely
impossible.
--Mike Rubin

There is a list of the mixes here. Some obscure stuff.

actually i am amazed what Traktor can do. i recently obtained
notebook and installed this nice proggie. I used notebook+Traktor as
3rd deck in addition to 2x turntables for a few gigs and was feeling very
comfortable with it
(especially if you assign all the keyboard shortcuts nicely).

the looping feature is very nice, you can automatically assign 1, 4, 8
and 16 bar loops and if there is a certain part of the track you like
very much, you just loop it and seemlesly rewind back. or just
start same track on other virtual deck and do just like doubles :)

p.s. and please no 'vinyl vs. digital' flame again! =)

RE: (313) garage band [OT]

2004-01-05 Thread Brendan Nelson
I think that that's the most likely explanation, and it would be fairly
exciting although I can see potentially negative consequences for the world
of vinyl pressing and distribution if not necessarily for actual producers
themselves. Could it be argued that Apple will be stepping into the shoes of
mp3.com if they go ahead with this?

And what are Apple Records going to say about it? I can't imagine them being
very happy at all!

i see your point, but if it turns out that this paid downloading
thing
really catches on, wouldn't it be nice if some indie labels could
make some
bucks, too (with the exact same access to distribution as the
majors)?

IMO the internet alone is the place for distribution that everyone
has access to (well not everyone as of right now, but soon
enough). participating in online communities can raise your
profile and its easy enough to sell things through your own
website. i dont see how padding apple's wallet is to anyone's
advantage. centralizing the money in the music industry will lead
to a similar situation to what we're experiencing now. for the mp3
revolution to matter, the money has to be dispersed throughout the
music community.
