We are almost half way there, the mid point of this administration, soon it
will feel like a wednesday, which is followed by thursday, and then friday and
then the weekend. lol
Saw matthew dear last weekend at an afterparty for Remix hotel, and it was one
of the best live sets of the year so far. It was extra cool, because the space
that it was in has a no dancing rule and a bunch of us moved the tables and
danced anyway. He did not sing which was a relief, the last time he played in
SF it was a 90% vocal set, which eh I could of done without 50% of it.

This is off-topic of Detroit techno in so much that there is no talk of
music but it's not off-topic if we are to link it to the messages within
Detroit techno:

freedom of expression, equal rights for all regardless of
race/age/sex/sexual orientation/etc, working toward a positive future for
our country and the world

This needs to be brought to light beyond the internet!

Our analysis shows that this voting system is far below
even the most minimal security standards applicable in other contexts. We
identify several problems
including unauthorized privilege escalation, incorrect use of cryptography,
vulnerabilities to network
threats, and poor software development processes. We show that voters,
without any insider privileges,
can cast unlimited votes without being detected by any mechanisms within
the voting terminal software.
Furthermore, we show that even the most serious of our outsider attacks
could have been discovered
and executed without access to the source code. In the face of such
attacks, the usual worries about
insider threats are not the only concerns; outsiders can do the damage.
That said, we demonstrate that
the insider threat is also quite considerable, showing that not only can an
insider, such as a poll worker,
modify the votes, but that insiders can also violate voter privacy and
match votes with the voters who
cast them. We conclude that this voting system is unsuitable for use in a
general election. Any paperless
electronic voting system might suffer similar flaws, despite any
certification it could have otherwise
received. We suggest that the best solutions are voting systems having a
voter-verifiable audit trail,
where a computerized voting system might print a paper ballot that can be
read and verified by the voter.

2004-11-04 Thread David Beattie
Hi Alex,

I went to the club 69 gig in Scotland. Didnt think it
worthy of review, it wasnt a live show, they guy didnt
turn up, apparently it was the woman who does the
vocals on DOPPLEREFFEKT who turned up to play CDR's of
the new stuff. It sounded quite good to my ears, but
the dark evil soundscapes without any/much beat
certainly took the flow out of the night since Martin
(RubADub) had been playing a blinder before she took
control. Eventually Martin went back on and the place
picked up again.

As I said, I did enjoy the music, hearing it through a
big rig and everything but it wasnt exactly prime time
club tackle.

Hi. I'm not home right now. But if you want to leave a
message, just start talking at the sound of the tone.
Hello? This is your Mother. Are you there? Are you
coming home?
Hello? Is anybody home? Well, you don't know me,
but I know you.
And I've got a message to give to you.
Here come the planes.
So you better get ready. Ready to go. You can come
as you are, but pay as you go. Pay as you go.

And I said: OK. Who is this really? And the voice said:
This is the hand, the hand that takes. This is the
hand, the hand that takes.
This is the hand, the hand that takes.
Here come the planes.
They're American planes. Made in America.
Smoking or non-smoking?
And the voice said: Neither snow nor rain nor gloom
of night shall stay these couriers from the swift
completion of their appointed rounds.

'Cause when love is gone, there's always justice.
And when justive is gone, there's always force.
And when force is gone, there's always Mom. Hi Mom!

So hold me, Mom, in your long arms. So hold me,
Mom, in your long arms.
In your automatic arms. Your electronic arms.
In your arms.

In your electronic arms.

Excellent choice. Well, the American people have voted. Now shows like Big
Brother and Survivor make a lot more sense. This country is f*cked.
Period.

Yep, more than depressing.

np: AON - A Time for Fear (Who's Afraid) [1984 ZTT/Island]

"Lord, Lord, Lord ... where did we get such men?"

"So what happens now?"

Taken from various interviews with Joe English, Noise Factory Records the
man behind the label: "All roads lead back to Joy Division. They were the
most influential band during my teen years. From that point, everything
else fell into place. At one point I was so into electronic industrial
music that I began adopting the anti-guitar philosophy of Test Department.
That didnt last long. The next major influence came with David Sylvians
Secrets of the Beehive. I suppose these two musical styles represent the
scope of what would become Noise Factory Records. As for the Noise
Factory, it began as a college radio show on CHRY during the early 90s.
The show played mainly industrial, electronic and ambient music. We had a
couple of parties under the Noise Factory moniker, but once we graduated
university it all kind of ended. Life began to play its cruel little game.
I got a job at IBM and hated every day. So I started the label in 1996. I
knew nothing about running a label, and I had no contacts but I had a good
friend that was in a band, and wanted to put out an album. It made sense

Canada's not the only english speaking liberal democracy with a progressive
government - there's also New Zealand. NZ banned US warships from their
ports two decades ago. i highly recommend the place. How did recloose like
living in NZ?
If anybody was wondering about Australia -like the US it's also run by a
big-spending radical right government. Bush refers to our prime minister as
his deputy.

With all the political passions being released on the list today I would
like to say that Stephen Burd actually called me to discuss the issues,
talk about Detroit a little and to say that like my beginning
statements, his statement was partially a joke as well.

We all have our own personal and political beliefs and a discussion
board is exactly a place to post them. But what I often find is that
some people say or do things that they wouldn't necessarily say in
person. I've had many debates,,(never political,,lol, mostly musical) on
other message boards but I've never had anyone to actually take the time
to contact me personally to clarify anything that may have been said on
the message board. Stephen did just that. And to me that is admirable.

With that said, I'm still interested in Canada,,,:) mainly because I was
interested before the election and even more so now.
