(313) Ghost of 313's past...
Hello all, Haven't been here in over 5 years but the other day DJ Horsepower + his lovely wife hunted me down at my office in cleveland and reminded me of the musical friends from the golden age (dj-horsepower, j-kleine, b-vanloo, b-bickel, m-taylor, a-duke, m-salcido, d-sicko, i-malbon, k-williams, m-Macqueen, i-ackermann, Joost, t-Cooey, m-clark, m-geist, d-potts, g-dickerson, mumtaz, d-madmonkey, s-Silva, e-rinon, o-Koppius, marsel, j-Braine, j-rice, brap, t-Churchill, d-clark, d-Plaslaiko, a-Bennett, p-Bense, spiceee, w-Lammerts, j-branch, k-Hackett, g-davis, w-Samuels, a-Michelson, j-bush, r-webb, d-siska, t-Herrmann, p-Wohelski, j-berry, bleed, to name just a few...) Since my last post on this list my enthusiasm for music hasn't decreased but my time and finances for it has. so i have some catching up to do and may be bothering you with more questions than answers for a time. I actually took a 3 yr hiatus from electronic music and submersed myself in old 70s dub and reggae (tubby, perry, niney, scientist, etc.) but recently i've gotten the electronic bug again so i'm trying to get back in y=the know-loop-groove. on a personal note, i've gotten married, have a home in the cleveland suburbs, and a busy career with Apple computers. Welcome back soldier. Great to see the names dropped, even if we have lost a few comrades. Dub is always a nice education, but the influence seems to have faded in recent years. And what's happening in Ohio? The MI-OH corridor was once strong. Can it be rebuilt? -- Ian
Re: (313) Ghost of 313's past...
HI all, What happened to DJ Horsepower? He does not seem to be posting as much as before. Regards, Collin
(313) Things I noticed at the weekend
1. Duplex on Frantic Flowers is HOT (this heat thing is turning into an wave - glad I've got a gig Saturday so I can spin all these exciting new tunes) 2. The Planet Delsin sampler - Marcel will all 3 tracks be on the LP? OK, I know you want me to buy both but I'd like to save my £$€ for the full release with all these HOT records about : ) 3. I bought a compilation on BBE by MAW called Kings Of House because it had lots of classics I have collected together on one (well 4) easy to carry record and one or two I shamefully don't have so it's plugged gaps too. Interestingly (because it's a fairly big release on a fairly big label from big name compilers) according to the sleeve and label it features Rythim Is Rythim It Is What It Is yet up on listening it turns out to be The Beginning. Odd that such a mistake can have got through?

I notice that Discogs does not have all the Strings Of Life releases catalogued. RE: (313) Ghost of 313's past...
and back from google (or boomkat to be more precise) http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=17404 so strand is not strand... but someone from spain. sounds nice anyway though :-)
Re: (313) Ghost of 313's past...
yeah i just looked on boomkat's site but you beat me to it Jurren :) STRAND - Viet EP City Centre Offices 12 // £ 5.99 STRAND - Viet EP, City Centre Offices City Centre Offices welcomes another new artist to the camp. Miguel Gil Tertre, aka Strand, is from Madrid and has been one of the key figures on the spanish scene for electronic music over the last couple of years. Miguel has been collaborating with musicians from around the globe to exchange sounds, ideas and influences. His first release for City Centre Offices is a perfect example of how important it is these days to open up the studio for sounds not created electronically. The Viet E.P. melts Strand's digital universe with ideas and sounds from his friends and collaborators playing guitar, flügelhorn, trumpet, violin, drums and the addictive singing of Paloma Sosa. Strand is neither an indieband going digital nor a treated powerbook looking like a guitar. Strand is something else, a new dimension added to the sound people call Indietronics, a serious approach towards the idea of merging the best of both worlds. Deep and haunting athmospheric melodies meet precise, kicking beats meet chopped up samples meet the liberating sounds of acoustic instruments. Lovely. jurren baars wrote: and back from google (or boomkat to be more precise) http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=17404 so strand is not strand... but someone from spain. sounds nice anyway though :-)

1. Duplex on Frantic Flowers is HOT (this heat thing is turning into an wave - glad I've got a gig Saturday so I can spin all these exciting new tunes) Okay, so the only one I liked on this is sunbeam. The thing is, I'd swear that I own this track somewhere. Anyone know if this has seen a release before? If not, then they ripped large chunk from another track cause I was definitely singing along with this the first time I heard it (even the little plinky sounds. I've gotta look today when I get home. Anyone? KKS

(313) The soundtrack for my drive to work
I downloaded the latest release on Thinnerism, Digitalis Zeitraum, last night and burned it for the ride in this morning. I hadn't had a chance to listen to any of it last night, so anything I heard would be a suprise. This release was the perfect backdrop for my ride up the 101 loop through the west side of Phoenix this morning. I got through the first 5 tracks getting here and eagerly await the last 5 getting home this evening. The standout for the morning drive was the second track, Gloods. It was perfect for an early morning drive with beautiful desert landscaping providing the visuals. Y'all need to cop this one.

HI all, What happened to DJ Horsepower? He does not seem to be posting as much as before. When I recently talked with Horsepower he was also busy with work, family, life and did have as much time for music recently. but we both discussed our desires to get back into music more - time permitting of course. : ) -- ---Lance 6099 Creekside Lane North Ridgeville, OH 44039 United States

Dub is always a nice education, but the influence seems to have faded in recent years. Dub is still out there. Check the new Deadbeat release on Scape, any of the Deepchord/Rod Modell stuffs on Silentes/Deepchord/Echocord, and all the other Echocord releases (especially those my Mikkel Metal). Visit these links for more infos... http://www.techno.ca/deadbeat/ http://www.dctrax.com/ http://www.scape-music.de/ http://www.echocord.com/ http://www.mikkelmetal.dk/ if you want some legal feebie techno/ambient/dub from established artists, check out the Flow.ers compilation on the Sutemos netlabel. it features tracks from yagya, rod modell, octex, exos, and ozy to name just a few. nice stuff and well worth the price of admission - which is none. : ) http://www.sutemos.net/en/ Finally, one last thing about dub. Not necessarily for this list but... Those interested in classic dub/reggae who havent yet started purchasing any may want to check out the excellent UK Blood and Fire dub/reggae reissue label. They has re-released-compiled the best of the best by King Tubby, Horace Andy, Scientist, The Congos, Lee Perry, Prince Alla, Burning Spear, Jah Stitch, Keith Hudson, Tappa Zukie, Glen Brown, I-Roy, Cornell Campbell, Johnny Clarke, Big Youth, Gregory Isaacs, Max Romeo, Yabby You, Trinity, Dennis Brown, Jackie Mittoo, Ranking Joe, Junior Ross, Linval Thompson, Willi Williams, and Niney the Observer to name just a few. If you need specific recommendations i would be happy help but the real reason i mention Blood and Fire right now is because they have just marked down most of their catalog to 50% their original prices. Visit http://www.bloodandfire.co.uk for more information and sound samples. And what's happening in Ohio? The MI-OH corridor was once strong. Can it be rebuilt? yes ohio was once home to some excellent musicians - dan curtin, morgan geist, jeff samuel, hanna, titonton, twine, todd sines, steve cinch, metamorphic, the 21/22 corp/elemental collective, etc... but many of those musicians have left for more musically fertile locations. i've been out of the techno loop for a few years so i dont know if there has been an ohio 'second wave' or not but i'm sure there are a few up-and-coming producers in ohio somewhere. we'll see if we can get them noticed when we find them! -- ---Lance 6099 Creekside Lane North Ridgeville, OH 44039 United States
