If any of you are interested in sharing stories, please email me directly

Oops, sorry for the confusion. as some of you have found out, the
Strand release on Thaddi Herrmann's City Centre Offices label has
nothing to do with the Frictional/Delsin/Tactile Recordings outfit.
the CCO Strand, who's name is actually written as S_T_R_A_N_D, is a
Spanish produced named Miguel Gil Tertre. His ep features an
interesting electronica+traditional instrument mix that surely isnt
313 but an interesting listen nonetheless. There is one 313 relavence
to the City Centre Offices label, our very own Bill Vanloo released a
beautiful 7 on CCO back in 2001 entitled 'Tones (For Sarah).'
probably a rarity these days but still a great listen for those who
have it or can find it.

One last note regarding Strand - the detroit one that is... the label
that released the last Strand record 'Pigeon Toed Orange Peel' back
in 2002, Tactile Recordings, appears to have changed the label name
to Harbonder and features a looping unreleased Strand track on it's
developing website. Is Tactile/Harbonder a label run by Strand?
Thankfully, it looks like the label will be releasing some more
Strand material sometime in the future. visit
http://www.harbonder.com for the brief clip of new Strand.

Thanks friend. happy to be back. maybe we can encourage some of the others

Dub is always a nice education, but the influence seems to have faded in
recent years.

Dub is still out there. Check the new Deadbeat release on Scape, any of
the Deepchord/Rod Modell stuffs on Silentes/Deepchord/Echocord, and all
the other Echocord releases (especially those my Mikkel Metal). Visit
these links for more infos...

http://www.dctrax.com/
http://www.scape-music.de/
http://www.echocord.com/
http://www.mikkelmetal.dk/

if you want some legal feebie techno/ambient/dub from established artists,
check out the Flow.ers compilation on the Sutemos netlabel. it features
tracks from yagya, rod modell, octex, exos, and ozy to name just a few.
nice stuff and well worth the price of admission - which is none. : )

http://www.sutemos.net/en/

Finally, one last thing about dub. Not necessarily for this list but...
Those interested in classic dub/reggae who havent yet started purchasing
any may want to check out the excellent UK Blood and Fire dub/reggae
reissue label. They has re-released-compiled the best of the best by King
Tubby, Horace Andy, Scientist, The Congos, Lee Perry, Prince Alla, Burning
Spear, Jah Stitch, Keith Hudson, Tappa Zukie, Glen Brown, I-Roy, Cornell
Campbell, Johnny Clarke, Big Youth, Gregory Isaacs, Max Romeo, Yabby You,
Trinity, Dennis Brown, Jackie Mittoo, Ranking Joe, Junior Ross, Linval
Thompson, Willi Williams, and Niney the Observer to name just a few. If
you need specific recommendations i would be happy help but the real
reason i mention Blood and Fire right now is because they have just marked
down most of their catalog to 50% their original prices. Visit
http://www.bloodandfire.co.uk for more information and sound samples.

And what's happening in Ohio? The MI-OH corridor was once strong.

yes ohio was once home to some excellent musicians - dan curtin, morgan
geist, jeff samuel, hanna, titonton, twine, todd sines, steve cinch,
metamorphic, the 21/22 corp/elemental collective, etc... but many of those
musicians have left for more musically fertile locations. i've been out of
the techno loop for a few years so i dont know if there has been an ohio
'second wave' or not but i'm sure there are a few up-and-coming producers
in ohio somewhere. we'll see if we can get them noticed when we find them!

(313) CFP - Mobile Music Technology workshop 2006

2005-09-14 Thread Drew Hemment

Apologies for cross-posting.

THIRD INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON MOBILE MUSIC TECHNOLOGY
2-3 MARCH 2006, BRIGHTON, UK
http://www.viktoria.se/fal/events/mobilemusic/

Combining mobile technology and music promises exciting future
developments in a rapidly emerging field. Devices such as mobile phones,
walkmans and iPods have already brought music to the ever-changing
social

and geographic locations of their users and reshaped their experience of
the urban landscape. With new properties such as ad hoc networking,
Internet connection, and context-awareness, mobile music technology
offers

countless new artistic, commercial and socio-cultural opportunities for
music creation, listening and sharing. How can we push forward the
already

successful combination of music and mobile technology? What new forms of
interaction with music lie ahead, as locative media and music use merge
into new forms of everyday experiences?

Following two successful workshops that started to explore and establish
the emerging field of mobile music technology, this third edition
offers a

unique opportunity to participate in the development of mobile music and
hands-on experience of the latest cutting-edge technology. The programme
will consist of presentations from invited speakers, in-depth
discussions

about the crucial issues of mobile music technology, hands-on group
activities and break-out sessions where participants can get valuable
feedback on their work-inprogress projects. The invited speakers include
Michael Bull (University of Sussex, UK), often dubbed by the press as
'Professor iPod' for his iPod and car stereo user studies that reveal
fascinating trends for mobile music.

The workshop will take place at the University of Sussex in Brighton,
UK.

Brighton is situated on the British 'Sunshine Coast' and easily
accessible: only 30 minutes from London/Gatwick airport and 60 minutes
from central London.

Don't miss this chance to help shape the mobile music landscape of the
future!

CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS

We invite practitioners, artists, designers and researchers from all
areas, including music, technology development, new media, sound-art,
music distribution, locative media and industry to register for this
international mobile music workshop.

CALL FOR WORK-IN-PROGRESS

Are you working on a mobile music project and looking for feedback from
like-minded people to help you to move on with your ideas?

We invite submissions of work-in-progress projects exploring the topic
of
mobile music. Projects will be discussed, receive critical review as
well

as support with ongoing problems and issues. Your work should not be
completed yet, but either be on-going or just about to get started.
Potential projects could include but are not limited to mobile music
systems or enabling technologies, interface design, on-going or planned
user studies, ethnographic fieldwork, art pieces and other areas
relevant

to mobile music.

Submissions should include a presentation of the
project, explain its relevance to the field of mobile music and describe
issues and problems that could be discussed
during the workshop. Please include a short biography with the
submission.

Accepted project authors will be given
time to present and discuss their work and will receive feedback by
smaller groups of workshop participants
including specialists in the field. Authors are encouraged to bring
material and prototypes to the workshop.

Submission format: one page in ACM SIG publications format.
Submission deadline: 28th November 2005
Notification of acceptance: 15th December 2005

CALL FOR MOBILE PLATFORMS AND SYSTEMS

In addition to the presentations, discussions and project feedback
sessions the workshop will also offer handson group activities to
explore

technological platforms.

We are looking for mobile platforms, systems, installations,
applications

or devices that include music features or can be used for musical
projects. The workshop participants will get hands-on experience with
these platforms, so they should be suitable for groups of at least 8
people. This provides you with the opportunity to introduce your
platform

to experts and practitioners in the field of mobile music and to gain
valuable feedback. We invite you to submit a platform description,
explain

how it can be used for mobile music and how larger groups can use it
during the workshop.

Submission format: one page in ACM SIG publications format
Submission deadline: 31st October 2005
Notification of acceptance: 14th November 2005

SUBMISSIONS

Please send your platform or project submission as a PDF file, to all

Huh? I thought Black Dog just released for them and the label was
created by Martin and Richard.

From what I have read and heard, Martin and Richard Dust have joined
with Head Dog Ken Downie as part of the Black Dog collective. So you
are correct that not ALL members of Black Dog are runnning Dust
Science but as you mentioned, Martin and Richard are.

Can anyone confirm whether or not this is really Dopplereffekt? I don't

 completely void of UR tracks.

I forget who did the original, I have it somewhere, but I remember some
guy who bootlegged it back in Detroit about ten years ago. I can ask him
if there are any copies still around in his storage unit.
