records comin mid June. One from Scape One and the other from Dcast
Dynamics (aka Gosub aka Shad T. Scott)

These releases (as with all fine releases) will be available thru Clone.

Peace,

silicon on frustrated funk
blackploid on frustrated funk (which i'm nearly certain is gerald/

mesak on klakson
urban tribe on rephlex
3 x new bunker stuff (mostly pretty fresh)
avida (alexander robotnik) on creme (wa better than that recent
album...giving problemes d'amour a run for the money...)

cosmic force live in detroit on marguerita

also really cool stuff coming out of scotland on labels like
electron industries and stuff (that's the name of the label).

not to mention recent dynarec things, and a couple of winners off
UR ISF2 (like geiger counter)...

this year seems considerably better for music than last
year...altho detroit itself seems a bit quiet, there has been a lot
of really quality music kicking around already this year...almost
makes me hopeful about the future of vinyl and the dancemusic
business...

ps as a big orlando voorn fan gotta mention he has a new label
called triangle...the first one is almost trancey, but in a really
good way, it's pretty deep...and he's got some great stuff
coming...btw hunt orlando's music page down on myspace to hear him
and his wife doing a rough house cover of ying yang twins before he
takes it down haha

(313) Moodyman in the mix

2006-05-30 Thread Jason Brunton

Thought you might be interested in this:

Moodymann – The Moodymann Collection (Mahogani Music)
A promo for this arrived this morning and we’ve listened to it twice
already – it really is that good. I’ve never been lucky enough to
witness a Moodymann DJ set live and direct, but listening to this
prooves that he really is the sh*t! KDJ cuts and pastes between
tracks effortlessly, teasing you with snippets of his classics
amongst some crazy (and possibly unreleased) bits we’ve never heard
before. A brilliant DJ mix, packed with 30 tracks of that
unmistakeable, inimitable KDJ funk.

Full tracklist; Forevernevermore / Shades Of Jae / M.E.A.N.D.N.J.B. /
The Fourth Track / Answer Machine / I Can’t Kick This Feelin When It
Hits / Black Mahogani / Shine / Stone Oden Joe / Sunday Mornin /
Liberty / Meanwhile Back At Home / Roberta Jean Machine / PBC /
Wednesday Nite People / Givin U Something / People / Back At Bakers /
Misled / Sunshine / Don’t U Want My Love / I Need U So Much / JAN /
Sweet Lovin / Joy II / I’m Doin Fine / Over U / On My Way Home / I
Found Your (heart) Beat / Uncle – END.

They hauled out a few from what I heard. There was a bunch of
sunburned white people there, though.

On the other hand, no matter how hot it was, I've been in clubs that are hotter!

(313) Movement/Memorial Day

2006-05-30 Thread Kent Williams

I'm gutted that I didn't get a better video -- I think my camera had
heatstroke, but for me, being on Hart Plaza on Memorial Day was summed
up by this little video fragment:

For the video-impaired, it's a man dressed in full desert camo
uniform, dancing to Carl Craig playing The Bells.

Well, I can only speak for Monday since I decided not to stand in line
for an hour with a bunch of drunken idiots on Saturday night. And as
for Sunday I wasn't all that interested in paying $20 for the line-up.
However, Monday was amazing. I hung-out with fellow list member Drew D.
out of Minneapolis. We got there right when they opened the gate to
catch Carl's set. Although C2 didn't really put much effort into his
performance he dropped some great cuts and the sound was just right.
(By the way if anyone knows the last track that C2 dropped I would be
interested to know). After C2 we got out of the heat for a few minutes
and re-hydrated. When we returned for Louie Vega who was in the process
of putting together a flawless set of deep house--working with the same
great sound system C2 was on. Mr. V then came out and sang along with
his Giving You Something With Jazz. Next Blaze came on and did their
thing for about 30 - 45 minutes and were excellent and in great
spirits. The vibe was amazing with a very nice mix of people. We then
jumped over to the main stage to catch about an hour of Derrick's set.
Derrick was on his game and the sound was perfect. We then moved back
to the house stage where LV and Mr. V tag-teamed on about a dozen or so
disco edits and just having a total blast. After dancing non-stop for
about 5 hours we went to LaShish for grape leaf and hummus sandwiches.
What a great end to the festival for me.

As for the afterparties we went to the Soul Bomb party on Friday night,
where Malik Alston was definitely the highlight in my opinion. He did a
number called (I guess) I'm On My Way To Chicago ... which I can't get
that one out of my head. On Saturday night we went to the John Arnold /
Jeremy Ellis gig. Those guys were hotter than Hades--really tore it
up. From there we went over to Oslo to catch the last 15 minutes of
Shake's set. Left there and bumped into KDJ who we chatted-up for a
couple minutes--he's such a cool cat.
