Re: (313) Oliver Ho
Ho's music has a real sense of history embedded in its grooves, like a lot of the best Detroit techno. Some real mental energy spirit to complement the sensuality of the rhythms. That inner track flowing on from the Pure mix of Magick (Meta 19) always slays me with its sampled voiceover: I go with my feelings, you know, I love music...the only thing that makes me play continue (in) this business is my love for music. Sounds a bit like Miles in a good mood. Anyone have any idea who Ho's sampling here? http://www.discogs.com/release/252723 Wes
(313) microsound/electroacoustic/techno goings-on in asia
hey i'm off on my OE next year, and i'm intending on taking my laptop and mic and writing music in all of the places i end up in - which at the moment will be places that lie in a largely circuitous overland route between indonesia and germany, including indonesia, malaysia, vietnam, china, tibet, mongolia, turkey, bulgaria, romania, serbia, croatia, slovenia; possibly india and through iran, or possibly parts of russia and kazakhstan/ uzbekistan/ turkmenistan. no final dates or decisions yet.. now, it would be awesome to be able to hook up with the local ea/microsound/electronica/techno scene everywhere i go - assuming there is an ea/microsound/electronica/techno scene there of course. so, does anyone have any advice on how/where to make contact with these types of people before i get there? i'll be backpacking so it would be unspeakably amazing to be able to couchsurf as well... cheers damian -- f r e y live music with computers http://www.frey.co.nz

RE: (313) The Usual Suspects DVD released
Hey, this is the one which Chip E appeared in but I believe a guy called Josell Ramos more or less producer-directed it, using Final Cut Pro and which (consequent to that) they managed to get a bit of PR about on the Apple home page last year. Working title: 'Maestro'... http://www.apple.com/pro/video/ramoseberhart/index2.html Whatever, I'd like to see this. The clips looked good and the interviews were interesting (including the bits about the music). Both of these are interesting field recordings, Chris is of course Ex-Cabs and Z'ev is one of the most magick people I've ever met...enjoy Chris Watson - Alcedo Volcano Chris writes: The Alcedo Volcano sits, astride the equator 1000m above the Pacific ocean on the central ridge of Isla Isabella the largest of the Galapagos Islands. For tens of thousands of years within the micro climate of the Caldero a strange and beautiful habitat has been created - an isolated and lost world which I was priveleged to live within for several days during May 2006. z'ev - untitled 50:03 50 minutes and 3 seconds of binary-acoustics produced 12-14 February 2005, studio dop in Peckham, London Note: if you listen with headphones you will as close as possible hear what I heard composing it as I always and only work wearing headphones for just this reason PS: contrary to some supposition I do not use audiophile headphones - just some old Sony mdr-cd580's http://www.touchradio.org.uk/
