2007-04-08 Thread Cyclone Wehner
I think the 'hi tech soul' arose from him wanting to present an
alternative to 'techno' given that the term 'techno' is (as he sees
it) somewhat debased or misunderstood outside this scene. People
equate it with Moby or whatever. Derrick rarely forgets a name or
face, that impressed me early on. It's funny as I think he shares his
birthday with Russell Crowe, who is equally misunderstood! Russell
sounds off but is someone who is very immediate with people and
absorbs a lot within his surrounds (so I can ascertain from people
who've worked with him). My definition of arrogance is how Depeche
Mode, esp Dave Gahan, view the Detroit techno scene - check out their
official biog. That scene stood by them, embraced them, gave them
additional cred and... they cop a major diss. I can't recall the
title as I was in a bookshop and looked up the index and was
thoroughly disappointed and put it down!

Fair enough, but in the case of Derrick, there is a perception though
and I don't think it's necessarily fair. But then I just finished
reading Rupert Everett's autobiog and people think he sounds arrogant
in that but I think he's anything but so it's interesting how people
perceive things and react differently. I was just interested in
general.

Re: (313) KDJ Soul skate party!

2007-04-08 Thread Jeffrey Richards
It does sound like a lot of fun.

I used to go to parties at Route 66 in Chicago, which
is (was?) a roller rink, but they were never
"innovative" enough to break out the roller skates to
make it an extra good time.

Too bad too, I could have loved to hear Paul Johnson's
"Feel my M.F. Bass!" while skating around in circles
in a less than desirable state of mind ;)

I would go to KDJ's after party just to get a bite to
eat. Soul/Comfort foods would really hit the spot
after a whole day of technoing.

He has stacks he could put out but I think he's a perfectionist - he

Not sure if it's out but it's great.

there are a huge number of really awesome mixes you can get for free
online, just go to a forum like deephousepage or djhistory or CBS and
clean house. but if you wanna buy a released complilation, i think
this is a good choice:

pretty much every track on there is a stunner and many are amongst my
all time favorites. the choice comps are nice too.

Oh yes! Get in!

See you there.

Ken - there really is no excuse now!

Didn't know you knew Mr Dixon so well mate. Just why you would want to
upbraid him for putting on a skate party, I haven't a clue.

... oh you mean me?!?

Ah, but there is an excuse!

I can't skate!!

;-)

life gets more and more surreal, know what I mean Dan?

Next thing you know, I'll be able to order a copy of this

http://www.discogs.com/release/913024

In Europe.

At that point, I will get off the lawn for good, I think

(313) Aaron-Carl Signs Deal with Cratesavers Muzik

2007-04-08 Thread Aaron-Carl
Hey there:
Just wanted to spread the word.

Much love and respect,
AC

WALLSHAKER Signs Deal with CRATESAVERS MUZIK

Legendary Detroit House producer and Wallshaker Music CEO Aaron-Carl signed
a 2 to 3-year contract with Cratesavers Muzik on April 4, 2007. Founded by
Scan 7's Trackmasta Lou and Direct Beat music pioneer Posatronix,
Cratesavers will oversee the manufacturing and worldwide distribution of
Wallshaker's music catalogue.

"This alliance not only makes our records more accessible throughout the
world, but also showcases the great strength we have (as Detroit artists and
producers) when we pool our resources together" says Carl.

Wallshaker was founded in 1998, with the underground club hit, "Closer."
Wallshaker's third release, Aaron-Carl's "My House" got licensed by Ovum
Recordings and earned a spot on Billboard's Top 40 Dance/Club Play Chart.

After a brief hiatus, Wallshaker re-opened its doors in 2003, releasing a
steady stream of Deep House and Tech-House anthems. Other artists on the
label include Detroit DJs E. Dubb, Todd Joseph and Benjamin Hayes, soul
singer extraordinaire Veronique, and Inbetween DJs from the UK.

Cratesavers started initially in 1999, and spawned a record label in 2005.
Specializing in Classic Detroit Techno, their label is open to all genres of
electronic music. Cratesavers' roster includes Techno legends Scan 7,
Detroit's own DJ Surgeon and the Detroit Techno Militia.

Wallshaker Music will also be digitally distributed through EPM Online,
Beatport.com, Juno.co.uk, Wallshaker.com and Cratesavers.com.
