Check out the Metropolis Mastering 'seal' on there.

It's not impossible, but fiddly to fake, plus it adds cost of course.

It might suggest it's not a boot.

I don't know though.

(313) more Derrick May A Guy Called Gerald

2009-01-23 Thread Andrew Duke

I realize Derrick May remixed A Guy Called Gerald's Automanikk, but
there might be some more collaborative material from around that time
released in
future; in Computer Music magazine issue 135 (full disclosure, I do work
for them),

there's a feature on A Guy Called Gerald that ends with Gerald saying:

I've discovered a whole lot of unmastered DATs from Voodoo Ray onwards.
I'm remastering that and making it bigger, fatter, and wider, so I'll
get a shop

on the website for that. I've found all these tracks of me jamming with
Aphex Twin and Luke Vibert, and outtakes of stuff I did with Derrick May.
It will be interesting, to say the least!

(313) US People buying from UK/EU web stores -- Exchange Rate!

2009-01-23 Thread kent williams
Just a reminder -- if you ever considered buying from UK or EU mail
order/digital stores, the exchange rate is making them a real bargain
right now. Juno is charging $1.55 per track for 320kbs MP3s, versus a
minimum of $1.99/track on Beatport. And don't forget vinyl shops like
our friends at Rush Hour and Rubadub. It's been since sometime in
2007 that the dollar has been this strong...

(313) CD and 12 Patchwork Willd Kingdom (Radio Spam)

2009-01-23 Thread Richard Hester
Last week on the Wild Kingdom, I put together a CD-only set partaking
from from the new (to me) material I had lurking in the wings. The
playlist sits at http://www.kfjc.org/music/playlist.php?i=31915.
Tomorrow night, I'm making a quilt stitched together using old and new
CDs and 12 acquisitions, featuring old and new friends. Some of the old
stuff (and some is very old - almost 20 years) will lend the set a bit
of a loungey flavor. Bit players include Morgan Geist, Isolee, APE,
Global Communication. Orbital (a fine old remix), Jimi Tenor (in
disguise), Tycho, Echospace, The Bionaut, Gudrun Gut, L.S. Diezel, and
others.

More Dutch Treats are in the works. I'm planning as feature sampling
the work of Maarten Van Der Vleuten (check out his extensive and varied
discography at discogs.com). That one will take some more work, so I'll
probably spin a set of Dutch Acid in between. Old scenesters with
suggestions are invited to chime in.. There will be a lot of old Djax
and Unit Moebius tracks among others- give me a heads up regarding
other Dutch acid of historical import.

The Wild Kingdom airs on KFJC-FM 89.7, Saturday night/Sunday Morning,
12A-3A (7A-10A GMT). Potential listeners outside the San Francisco Bay
area can find a webcast at www.kfjc.org (follow the links). Present and
past Wild Kingdom playlists are also archived there. You can also check
out archived playlists from my first KFJC show Just Desserts that was
on Fridays 10P-2A from 1992 through 1999. Archived playlists exist for
that show starting from Fall 1995 to New Year's Eve 1999/2000, so you
can see what what I'm up to these days is pretty much consistent with
what I was up to all along.

If you do tune in (especially via the web), please take a little time to
let me know your locale. I'm also interested in promo music from all
over and in promoting local (San Francisco Bay area) techno-type events.
If you want to do some promotion for an event, contact the KFJC
promotions department at pr...@kfjc.org to arrange ticket giveaways
and/or to send information for inclusion in our concert outlook. Thanks
