Re: (313) Vinyl Shops in Manhattan?
Awesome! thanks Frank and Klaus. I figured there were 10,000 record shops, thanks for narrowing it down. -Art On Tue, Feb 9, 2010 at 9:58 PM, klaus boss wrote: > Please allow me to point out this index on Discogs > > http://www.discogs.com/groups/topic/86816 > > On Wed, Feb 10, 2010 at 4:50 AM, Arturo Lopez > wrote: >> >> I'm going to be up in Manhattan next weekend, was wondering if any >> 313ers had any recommendations for NY vinyl shops that carry things of >> a Detroit-flavor. (313) Vinyl Shops in Manhattan?
I'm going to be up in Manhattan next weekend, was wondering if any 313ers had any recommendations for NY vinyl shops that carry things of a Detroit-flavor. I don't know a thing about the NYC scene so not sure if that kind of sound gets stocked very much out there. Thanks, -Arturo

Of course De La Soul sampled it first... to be clear, I bought 'Abandoned Luncheonette' the week it came out, so I'm not an H&O basher. But I just don't see them at DEMF somehow. Now what I'd really go for is Liason Dangereuses at DEMF http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksuVl3sEf7s On Tue, Feb 9, 2010 at 9:09 PM, David Powers wrote: > I don't know, watch the awesome keyboard knob turn in the intro: > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccenFp_3kq8 > > Guilty pleasure, I actually love parts of this song and was > considering sampling it for a deep house cut... Hm, very interesting. I am a huge H&O fan mainly because BIG BAM BOOM was one of the first electronic music albums that I loved. It's odd to think of that album as electronic music but it really was. Arthur Baker produced! So much synclavier! and linn drum all over that album, i think simmons hex drums too. slammin. ALL AMERICAN GIRL was the jam. Re: (313) my WTF Facebook moment for the night
Yeah, I know, but I seriously think it's coming from a strong local desire to expand musical genres that are presented at the festival - like George Clinton, De La Soul, or Saul Williams in earlier years. And maybe this is contrary to popular opinion/assumption, but Detroit techno and house artists in Detroit are really not genre police. Most folks are way more interested in educating people about all the different kinds of music that have been and continue to be influential to Detroit techno...and house, and electro, and booty, and on and on. I don't know, watch the awesome keyboard knob turn in the intro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccenFp_3kq8 Guilty pleasure, I actually love parts of this song and was considering sampling it for a deep house cut... In some subtle fashion of course. Maybe for something in the 112-116 bpm range. ~David On Tue, Feb 9, 2010 at 8:57 PM, wrote: > When I think of Detroit Techno, Hall & Oates always pops into my head... > > NOT ! > > telepathic regards, > the kooky scientist > > PS.
