(313) A Substitution and a Dedication (Wild Kingdom Biz)

2010-10-02 Thread Richard Hester
Tonight's Wild Kingdom will be hosted by new gal on the block Hacker's
Muse, as I will be on a plane to the Far East for an emergency business
trip. Expect - well, whatever happens... My trainee and I will be back
next week. Last week's playlist is at
http://www.kfjc.org/music/playlist.php?i=36344 . I was going to do
something easy with CDs next week, as I'll be getting back on Friday,
but the sad and very premature passing of Detroit producer Aaron Carl
necessitates a change in plans. I have a box of records just received
from the man himself via a discogs deal. I'm saddened to think that
packing up and sending out those records was one of the last things he
did. I'm putting together a set from those records (and maybe a couple
from the last deal we did) and dedicating it to his memory.

It's fundraiser time at KFJC, so we're asking for donations to pay our
bills - donate if the spirit moves you at www.kfjc.org .

Limited time archives for all shows on KFJC (including this one) are
available at http://www.kfjc.org/broadcast_archives/ . These are
rolling archives, available for two weeks after any given show. My
shows are listed under Goodwrench. Send comments and suggestions to
i...@kfjc.org .

The Wild Kingdom airs on KFJC-FM 89.7, Saturday night/Sunday Morning,
12A-3A (8A-10A GMT). Potential listeners outside the San Francisco Bay
area can find a webcast at http://www.kfjc.org/netcast/index.php .
Present and past Wild Kingdom playlists are also archived at kfjc.org.
You can also check out archived playlists from my first KFJC show Just
Desserts that was on Fridays 10P-2A from 1992 through 1999. Archived
playlists exist for that show starting from Fall 1995 to New Year's Eve
1999/2000, so you can see what what I'm up to these days is pretty much
consistent with what I was up to all along.

If you do tune in (especially via the web), please take a little time to
let me know your locale. I'm also interested in promo music from all
over and in promoting local (San Francisco Bay area) techno-type events.
If you want to do some promotion for an event, contact the KFJC
promotions department at pr...@kfjc.org to arrange ticket giveaways
and/or to send information for inclusion in our concert outlook. Thanks
to those who have sent promo music so far.

Richard Hester

Re: (313) Aarron Carl has passed

2010-10-02 Thread Greg Earle
On Sept 30, 2010, at 7:57 AM, Fred Heutte ph...@sunlightdata.com wrote:

Nobody who was there will ever forget Aaron-Carl's truly triumphant
performance on the main stage at the festival, and his shout outs
to his family and friends. He had an unquenchable drive to express
himself and a gift for making people feel good.

That year (2005) I bought a VIP ticket, and was standing backstage listening to
the end of Aaron-Carl's set. He finished and came off the stage to the
backstage area, where he was surrounded by his family, all wearing A-C t-shirts!

I found that moment incredibly heartwarming and touching, and - thank goodness
- had mentioned it to Aaron-Carl in messages I sent him since then. It was
definitely one of my most memorable Detroit Moments™ and I wanted him to know
about it.

I am deeply saddened at his sudden passing. It just blows my mind that he
could be diagnosed, have a biopsy and pass away in the space of a week. That
just ain't right. My deepest sympathies to his family friends. I wish I
could teleport in for his funeral but I will be on a plane to Idaho that
morning.

(Anything else I could say has been made redundant by Cliff Thomas' post; he
wrote a much better eulogy than I could ever dream of. Thanks, Cliff.)
