(313) Sheffield Special in New Wild Kingdom Slot Friday Night (Radio)

2011-05-13 Thread Richard Hester
If you're looking for the Wild Kingdom in its (at one time) usual slot
on Saturday night/Sunday morning Midnight-3A, you're gonna be
disappointed, as it's been moved to Friday nights, 10P-2A PDST (GMT-8
hours). Having said that, the KFJC universe has been severely disrupted
by a bazillion special features, as is the standard practice for the
month of May (Mayhem to us). Read all about it at kfjc.org/mayhem and
check out our schedule, as there's lot of interesting things happening.
Tomorrow night in my new time slot (Friday night/Saturday Morning
10P-2A) I'm presenting the first of two parts of a special called Steel
City Techno, where I paint an impressionistic sketch of the happenings
in Sheffield that gave rise to the bleep scene and Warp Records, among
other phenomena. Bit players include Mark Brydon, Robert Gordon, Mark
Gamble, Richard Barratt, Richard Kirk, Paul Browse (from a distance),
Winston Hazel, DJ Mink, Rob Mitchell, and Steve Beckett, among others.
The second part will follow on Friday, May 27. The first regular (HA!)
Wild Kingdom show will be Friday, June 3.

The_ last_ Sunday night Wild Kingdom playlist is at
http://www.kfjc.org/music/playlist.php?i=37987 .

Limited time archives for all shows on KFJC are available at
http://www.kfjc.org/broadcast_archives/ . These are rolling archives,
available for two weeks after any given show. My shows are listed under
Goodwrench. Send comments and suggestions to i...@kfjc.org .

The Wild Kingdom airs on KFJC-FM 89.7, Friday Night/Saturday Morning,
10P-2A (6A-10A GMT). Potential listeners outside the San Francisco Bay
area can find a webcast at http://www.kfjc.org/netcast/index.php .
Present and past Wild Kingdom playlists are also archived at kfjc.org.
You can also check out archived playlists from my first KFJC show Just
Desserts that was on Fridays 10P-2A from 1992 through 1999. Archived
playlists exist for that show starting from Fall 1995 to New Year's Eve
1999/2000, so you can see what what I'm up to these days is pretty much
consistent with what I was up to all along.

If you do tune in (especially via the web), please take a little time to
let me know your locale. I'm also interested in promo music from all
over and in promoting local (San Francisco Bay area) techno-type events.
If you want to do some promotion for an event, contact the KFJC
promotions department at pr...@kfjc.org to arrange ticket giveaways
and/or to send information for inclusion in our concert outlook. Thanks
to those who have sent promo music so far.

2011-05-13 Thread Roland Meijer Drees

We have two Reckless Records in Chicago, nice stores, although I don't
really see much in the way of house/techno. But great for 80's,
industrial, classical, jazz, and world for sure. And yeah, lots of
 hipster music.

They have pretty esoteric looking bags, word is the owners are really
into occult type of stuff--anyone know the scoop on that?

Thanks Ken, I didn't even know Reckless was back in business! Is that
store the smaller of the two they used to have?
Will have to get back there soon, it was always my favourite record store
 -
I reckon about 30% of my collection came from there...

  Hi 313-ers
I've been reading the 313 list for very long time and now is the time to
  send my first email/request.
Next week I'm travelling to London (from Holland). Part of my trip will
 be
  some record-hunting ;)
It's been long since I've visited London and I'm afraid I've lost track
 of
all the good (second hand) record stores in London (I know there were
 quit a
few in and around Soho area)
Do any of you have tips for where to find those nice record stores?
Any other tips regarding music, good exhibits etc.. are also welcome
  Thanks!

Good news for noCal folks not going to Detroit, bad news for those of
 us that are :)

Making his first ever SF appearance will be Hyperdub/Rinse
FM-associated purveyor of dark UK funky Scratcha DVA along with
absolutely legendary Detroit techno madman Anthony Shake Shakir, who
admittedly can't remember ever playing in SF before, so we're going to
go ahead and call it his first SF appearance as well.
