I have it on VERY good authority that this year's DEMF will be held in Chicago. On a boat. So get there early. Everyone else is encouraged to bring inflatable rafts to sit in. the group lost alot when Sun Ra died, and when John Gilmour died, but they still pack a mean punch and continue on full steam. 1. dego and marc DO have an immense influence on the ideals behind broken beat. after two pages they were thinking about going in a different direction, as they were exhuasted with drum and bass and wanted to fuse more of their influences into their music. 2. not only is 4Hero to be credited, but I find IG Culture and Phil Asher also to be founding fathers behind the movement. ESPECIALLY Phil Asher, as he is the one who brought many of these artists together. They have a like minded commune of producers, musicians and engineers who freely collaborate amongst themselves under a massive variety of labels and aliases (People, Laws of Motion, Main Squeeze, Earth Project, 2000 Black, Visions, Bitasweet etc etc.) that are housed and distributed in large by Goya Music Distribution(www.goyamusic.com). I'm sure this liberal amount of collaboration is what gives the sound that familiar vibe whenever the needle hits the wax. 3. the "west london" sound is just the term i believe to describe the unique rhythm programming, but it's contributions and influences span from the compost/compose/JCR labels to Talkin' Loud to Archive (yummy!!!) to any other likeminded label who shares the same philosophies behind their music. 4. so while it is primarily a "west london" thing, it's not. that would be like saying "grunge" was developed without the influence of MC5 or the Stooges. flame on if you must. . . _ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
