Utterly terrible - I know every artist goes through peaks and troughs
in their career butlook at the tracklisting on this mix. It's
 rubbish.

 Big sigh.

RE: (313) ...meanwhile, back in Detroit

2008-06-10 Thread Innes Macnee

yeah, mark flash 12 is good - been quite surprised by the last few UR 12s
(footwars, billeebob) - good to hear a label drop something unexpected

also, the new gary martin 12s on motech and MG are good too - got a nice
dj3000 mix cd free with the motech one

and the new kenny larkin - don't know if it's been mentioned here..

and also, a few nice vinyl reissues from kraftwerk (no electric cafe though...)
and got the chance to get a couple of my favourite albums on vinyl - superfly
what's going on

all i need now is for rob hood to get back to releasing a load of vinyl, like
he used to and i'll be happy!

Okdokey- haven't got time for a biggie but here's a few Detroit related
 things:

New Mark Flash on UR is an interesting departure for him- very west
 london broken beat/Jazzanova style stuff

New Mills- Alpha Centuri- he's been a bit hit or miss over the last
couple of years but this is a hit for me.

The Good , The Bad and The Deep from Rick Wade on Yore- double album
of Rick's trademark deep house grooves- couple of dodgy trumpet solos
here and there but excellent summer grooves throughout.

Dan Curtin 10 on Delsin- phew! What a scorcher!

Bernard Badie 12 on Mojuba- harking back to the old school sounds of
Cajmere, this is some REAL house music!

Electronic Warefare 2.1- perviously only through the Submerge site,
now more widely available- excellent mix by Skurge

Not from strictly from Detroit but check out the Alpha 606 12 on
interdimensional transmissions if you're after advanced Electro.

Really nice to hear Rythmatic's take on the early Kevin Saunderson
sound on the Network re-releases- amazing how spares and clean these
tracks sound after 15 years- simple but very effective stuff.

 Stuff I just like:

Syclops album on DFA- Maurice Fulton crosses every genre known to man
with this double album- can't think of a single reason not to buy it-
 its fantastic.

New Alex Cortex thing- wasn't a big fan until a couple fo years ago-
he's growing in stature all the time now though

Trelik represses- Make A Move by Minimal Man on Baby Ford's old label
get's a very welcome second airing- been playing this for years- it's
 ace.

Losoul on fire as usual- remixing on Sonar Kollective

Move D- Drone on Modern Love- thought it was a bit dull at first then
 completely changed my mind.

Sorry these reviews are a bit short!

 cheers

 Jason

I'm deeply sad to hear about Proof - one of the most gifted and underrated
MCs in hip-hop and a really down to earth guy. Always gave it up to
others. So musically engaged... Will be missed.

Re: (313) the price we pay...

2006-02-15 Thread Innes Macnee
it's annoying when there's so many records you want to buy but have to leave
half in the shop cos you can't afford them all but i think it's quite
expensive to produce vinyl these days and with labels not selling a lot, i
don't think there's much they can do about it

don't know about other countries but in the UK the price for an import 12
has been about the same since i started buying vinyl, about fifteen years
ago (£7-£8), so i'm glad that the price hasn't increased, like it has for
most things

if it's a great record, then i consider it money well spent, as i'll listen
to it hundreds of times, compared to a book that i'll read once and then
it'll sit and gather dust (not that i don't buy books, but if i had a choice
it would be a record every time)

i know a lot of stuff is being sold on mp3 sites like bleep these days, but
give me the vinyl every time...

(313) FW: new UR 12s

2004-06-10 Thread Innes Macnee

Oh my god these 12s are amazing, especially the b side of windchime,
abandoned building in mono by Perception.

I would do a review of them but I'm useless when it comes to
describing tunes I like-if anyone wants to see how reviews should be
done go to http://www.tesselate.me.uk/reviews/ (not 313 but if
you're into Ai, Spezial Material etc-mad, mad reviews)

Any chance of UR (or Timeline) doing another gig at 69?? the last
one was amazing

Speaking of Peacefrog, anyone else got hold of RH's first (I believe) 12
licensed to Peacefrog? Who Taught You Math (no question mark!). The title
track's a rare departure from his minimalist staple output and sounds more
like the Nightime World material, but with a much wider spectrum of
emotiveness ... the B side's just as good but is a lot more
characteristically tough minimal.

There is talk that he's got a barrel load of stuff due out on Peacefrog.
Possibly in LP form. Anyone please?

RE: [313] black water with vocals?

2002-02-27 Thread Innes Macnee
The original of this track didn't have vocals on it and was named as The
Untold on the Black Water EP on 430 West. The other side of the EP has
tracks called Black Water and Black Waters but they are different tracks.
The version with the vocals came out on Concept/430 West, who put out the
Burden mix cd also
