Re: [313] DJ Magda

2001-09-19 Thread Joel Fernandez
Interesting. I find her to be an extremely average dj. She's not
horrible,
she's just_not_above_average. So, the only logical conclusion i can come
up
with, is that her looks play a role. I'm sorry, but i would expect FAR
more
from detroit's next big thing. Plaslaiko can wipe his ass with magda's
skills, and is YEARS ahead of her talent wise. So why magda? I'm posing
a
question. Sorry if its not about the latest axis or basic channel.

I'm getting a kick out of reading this thread. If I didn't know any better,
I'd think that you were talking about Chicago about a year ago. Just
replace Magda and Plaslaiko with Colette and Justin Long;-) BTW, Heather
beats it harder than any female and 95% of the male jocks.

Someone else brought this up to me offlist... Big Fun was a major club
hit, did very well on the club charts and also charted on the Billboard
Hot
100, although I can't recall where it peaked at... I don't remember if it
broke into the Top 40 or not. Big Fun received anywhere from moderate to
heavy airplay in the major (Top 20) radio markets... outside of that, I
believe it received little to no airplay at all in what would be
considered
the small mid-sized radio markets. The thought makes me shudder,
because
I happened to hear it on a trip into Chicago once in '88 (both major Top
40
stations had it in heavy rotation at the time), and that's the song I give
credit for hooking me into house and techno. Like a couple of others,
I've
 noticed! LOL

Johnny Fiasco remixes of Conduction on Tonic Records. On the original
pressing you will find your usual remixes on one side. But on the other
side, containing the original version, you will find two hip hop songs. So
far I have met two people who were convinced that Conduction was
originally a hip hop song.

Just for the record, Conduction is one of the rare few songs that should
have never been remixed. None of the remixes do the original song any
justice.

 Subject: [313] Jeff Mills mix

I'm trying to find a website that I used to have a bookmark for, but I've

lost it for some reason. Its the one that has hundreds of DJ mixes of
mostly
old House stuff, mostly Chicago, but the one in particular that I am
after is
a Jeff Mills mix, about half an hour long, taken from a radio station in
Detroit in 89 or so. The mixing is absolutely mental, almost
unbelievable,
and the tunes are quite varied, hip hop, house, all sorts.

I am pretty sure I got the link from this list in the first place, so if
anyone knows what I'm on about, please get back to me.

 Cheers,

 Aaron

Stevie Wonder Track ID

2000-08-16 Thread Joel Fernandez
Greetings,

I've been hearing a new remix of All I Do by Stevie Wonder lately. At
first I thought it was the Roy Davis Jr. remix from a couple years ago, but
this remix had the original vocals in its entirety! I just want to know
who is responsible for this remix and what label can I find it on?

Ciao Baby,

Joel Fernandez

 There
are actually more than 25 different records that I know of which include
a
sample from Stevie Wonder's All I Do.

Since this happens to be one of my all time favorite tracks, would you be
nice enough to give a complete listing of who was responsible for all the
25 different remixes;-)

Joel Fernandez

 1. does anybody have a discography for Steve Poindexter? Also, what is
 that cat up to now?

I think he runs his own security firm. Last time I saw him, his crew was
working security at a rave about a year ago.

Re: [313] Rick Wade/the deep end

2000-07-13 Thread Joel Fernandez
they play deep house in washington dc and baltimore... BIG time... and i
certainly wouldn't call svek and plastic city deep house... i'm talking
about yellorange, dancetrax, 95 north, etc...

Might as well include Guidance to that short list.
