Yes, 'At Les' is a serious classic. If I were to make a 10 track mix CD, demonstrating what electronic music and Detroit Techno in specific was... 'At Les' would be on that diskbut hold onwhat if you could ONLY choose ONE track to demonstrate your love of Detroit Techno and it's all consuming power?what would that be? Yes, I know there are SO many...but, you can only choose one... By default, would you be compelled to choose 'Strings of Life' as it has arguably become kind of the Detroit Techno ambassador to the world? Or...how deep are you willing to go?...at the risk of alienating a potential convert... For me, I'd be handing out copies of 'It Is What It Is' like a priest giving out holy communion to all those wanting to be saved. (No Catholic jokes please.) Ok, ok..I know I said only one...but I'd have to sneak in 'Jupiter Jazz' ...and those that could handle 'G force' would get that upside they hedz! On second thought, yeah- nevermind- this is fruitless- as I stare at my wall of CDs and mix disks- just too much good stuff to haggle over. Forget I even said anything. Let's just exchange holiday greetings for the next few days instead. Best. Louis

Hi I'm going for the worlds longest topic title. Will I win? However Had a couple of records lately that sounded pretty cool, except for some wally chatting rubbish over the top. Example: Blake Baxter Abe Duque What Happened : Well, I dont know, but I dont want to hear your thoughts on it on some club record, thanks. Get a webpage and tell us or something. Kerri Chandler Back To The Raw. Nice fingers bassline, raw house track, duly ruined by Kerri giving it the big one What happened to house music that was raw dark and hard blah blah blah etc. Dunno mate, but for starters you've been playing wally style bongo house for a while, so why dont you work it out. DJ Deep saves us on this occasion with his edit, by getting rid of the spoken word vox and leaving the raw, good house track as it should be. This track is RECOMMENDED btw! Check piccadilly for clips. Can I put forward the motion that any one chatting over their records should receive a poke in the eye? (313) [Amsterdam Spam] Klakson / BlackLabel party
_ saturday 11th September Klakson vs. BlackLabel Live: Dexter Comtron Dj's: Steffi Sturmey Archer 10pm, 5 euro Pakhuis Wilhelmina, Amsterdam _ Next saturday, 11 september - Amsterdam electrofunk labels Klakson and BlackLabel are throwing down a party at Pakhuis Wilhelmina, Amsterdam (Near Panama). 10pm onwards, entrance 5 euro. Finally together at one night, you'll get the two hottest electrofunk acts from The Netherlands. Dexter became well known after his two smashing electrofunk EPs I don't care Intruder, both these records turned out to become classics within it's genre, and to be played out by many dj's as Dave Clarke and Trevor Jackson. Next to the EPs, Dexter did several remixes, including one of electroclash biggest tunes Emerge by Fisherspooner. Comtron is one of the many projects by multi talent Bas Bron (aka Bastian, aka Seymour Bits, aka .. ). Together with his mate Rimer Veenman, they've done two very well received EPs What We Sell Evil System. Comtrom proves electronic music is more than just computers, as their live sets come with Rimer on live drums, next to Bas doing keys and vocals, a unique combination. Steffi and Sturmey Archer will be your dj's for the night. We hope to see you around!

with all this talk about nothing.. is detroit techno, techno from detroit only? or can it come from i.e. rotterdam as well? -- Nomorewords.net Bentinckstraat 66-2 1051 GN Amsterdam The Netherlands fax +31-20-486-9624 - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Tuesday, September 07, 2004 1:00 PM Subject: RE: (313) Detroit Techno Ian's probably away being an international dj Ken! btw, for the record, this is exactly what I think too: (and I think it's pretty much the definitive answer) For me, Detroit techno covers a lot of styles. It's hard, or it's purist, or it's melodic, or it's minimal, or it's electro! :-) Often it's got elements of all the above and usually, most people would agree that whatever 'funk' is, that undefinable element can often seemt to be in what we call 'Detroit Techno' and I wasn't sort of arguing, or trying to make the point that it *should* be one thing or the other, that's exactly the opposite of what I think, it's just what Matt said yesterday really made me think about the other people on this list, and maybe they get a bit hacked off with me and a few others talking about the kind of techno we like, as opposed to maybe what the majority think. err, so yeah, clear as mud. sorry, just trying to clarify what I was on about. Re: (313) Detroit techno
ok, how would you people categorize a record by i.e. Duplex or D5? :-) i thought for B12 and Black Dog was the term intelligent techno? always liked that one ;-) saw also ambient techno, or ambi-techno being used. delsin has been called post-detroit and once somewhere as well soft-techno isn't that wonderful?

Tried looking at Discogs for an answer but only end up with more questions: all the best known M records are listed there loads appearing on comps but there's some I'm less familiar with TT/FF of Tresor II - I've got this but can't remember how it goes! and most intriguing (but bound to turn out to be a misprint of M6?) Maurizio MG (Version) plus some unknown (to me) mixes: Moving On (Mix Master Dub) Featuring - Charle' Bishop Remix - Costantino 'Mixmaster' Padovano , Maurizio Moving On (Voice Of The Underground) Featuring - Charle' Bishop Remix - Costantino 'Mixmaster' Padovano , Maurizio Hustlers Convention Turn It Up (Maurizio Mix) (6:04) Remix - Maurizio Hamburgher Party (Latino House) - Maurizio Ketch-Up Version Remix - Maurizio I guess although these are listed on the page for Moritz Von Oswald it's possible it could be a different Maurizio? These things aren't always right on Discogs, I recently bought some G-Man (who ever wanted their ashes pressed into Avanti, I'm with you!) records off Gemm that were listed on Gez Varley's Discogs page but turned out not to be by him. So what does anyone know? Guess this post could have come under Tuesday Trivia. And no it hasn't taken me all morning to write somebody turned up at my door 5 mins after I started it and I've only just finished it now before I have to leave my office for today so I'll have to till tomorrow to see your answers! Anyone know if these are actual samples from Prince records? And how can a guy names Seymour be so damn funky? Where is this guy from? Recommended. And if you speed it up it sounds real nice mixed with your detroit bass standards. Come to think of it, the other tracks on this 12 lean decidedly to the detroit electro bass camp. -sasha
