If you liked the 12" then you'll love the album too, more of the same & all
of similarly high quality too. Only got the one cd promo currently being
held very close to my chest

Wonderful, can't wait to hear it. The Tour De France 12" has definitely
grown on me, in fact it's a bit addictive! I hope the rest of the LP makes
up for all these years, it must be weird for them seeing how everything's
changed. I suppose they've got an awful lot more work to do, we've had 20
years of electronic dance music since their last (major) output, but what
was nice about TDF03 for me was it's lightness, funkiness, and general vibe,
for me it's really uplifting. If the rest of the LP is in that vein, it
should be a real treat.

I guess it's natural that, although they stood out a mile when they first
appeared, nowadays all they can achieve is to be well-received amongst the
myriad releases we endure in electronic music, no bad thing considering
they're partly responsible for the whole damn thing! Anyway, just thinking
aloud...

Stuart, is the promo a CD or vinyl pack? Any spares? ;-)

Just heard the new kraftwerk album... very good. The new tracks they've done
are really nice, deep, minimal, laidback, very kraftwerk obviously though it
reminds me a little more of yellow magic orchestra in places (some very
oriental synth sounds if that makes sense). The tour de france rework isn't
very different from the original though to be fair, sounds like they've just
replayed it keeping the original structure.

well that definition beats the "its black music" bullshxt
that this list normally spews.

I'm sick of everyone catagorizing and labeling everything
into the fxcking ground. how about these labels:

like

or

dislike

no music is "bad" its an artform and subjective by nature.
so you dont like techno or trance or jazz, ect, who are
you to tell anyone that its bad music? food for though :)

>>Brendan >Out of interest, what is *your* definition of
techno?

I like UR's definition:

'Techno is a music based in experimentation;
It is sacred to no one race; it has no definitive sound.
It is music for the future of the human race.' - UR

or am i wrong?

yes i do fall into the to the older (elitist) generation,
the reason for maturing away from techno is because the "tracky" Swedish
sound has bastardised MY interpretation of real Techno.

labels like Transmat set the standard for ME. The rest can follow i'll
still dip my toe in a bit of the 'new' techno by listening to stuff from
Umek, Carola...but it just doesn't do it for memaybe it's the strings.

[313] ROB HOOD ON PEACEFROG

2002-02-22 Thread Stuart Thomas
Since a few of you were asking about the logistic mix album I thought you
may be interested to know he’s also done a new album for Peacefrog. Only had
a quick listen so far but it sounds good to me. Pretty much the usual stuff
you’d expect, quality minimal Detroit sounds from the man. Not sure when it’
s due to come out but definitely one to look out for I reckon.

Laters,

Stu.

Re: [313] jeff mills stars again

2002-01-29 Thread Stuart Thomas
I’m with Nicole on this one. The London techno scene is dying a death. There
’s only about 3 or so half decent techno nights going on & even then it
could be so much better. It’s either hard loops to bang yer head against the
wall to or this tech house malarkey which was alright to start off with but
it’s all getting as samey as the hard loops stuff (though obviously it’s a
completely different style). Whenever I go out nowadays the music just seems
to bore me stupid & judging by the attendances at such nights in London I’m
not the only one. Whatever happened to plain good old fashioned techno music
with funk & soul. It’s just not the same as it used to be. Oh & before
anyone pulls me up on it I realize I may well have made some pretty large
generalizations here but when you take it to the bottom line it’s not really
that healthy over here is it.

2002-01-22 Thread Stuart Thomas
Kathleen,

The track you're on about was on plus 8 & is actually by Kenny Larkin, I
think it featured a Richie Hawtin mix on the flip. I'm not sure but I think
it was actually entitled "we shall overcome" & was either the 2nd or 3rd
release on plus 8. Something like that anyway. Hope that helps you some.
