Re: [313] Juno?

2001-07-25 Thread crisk

This had been asked in virtually every forum and mailing list I follow.
Nobody has any answers. The common theories include being hit by some sort
of a worm / hacker attack, or upgrading the site to the new site they've
been talking about lately.

I suggest somebody in London calls them up - 020 7561 0072
(that's the number on their invoice anyhow).

If someone does - do let me know. ;)

[313] London techno vinyl stores / venues

2001-07-20 Thread crisk

Hey all,

I need your help :)

1) Can anyone recommend some good record stores in London where one could
find some decent techno?

2) Any recommended venues (clubs / whatever) in / around London that play
decent techno?

Thanks,

minor techno

2001-04-09 Thread crisk

hey all,

i'm looking for that minor sound. those minimal tracks with eerie, sad,
minor strings giving them that unmistakenable feel.. i realized i just
don't get to hear many such tracks, and so i buy only what i manage
to find.. i gathered the collective knowledge of this list could help
me with this 'techno educational' project...

i'll list a few tracks so you could zoom in the style i'm after -

mike wade - requiem (b1 on 'first breath' ep / archetype)
jeff mills- if (all three 'if' on the if ep)
hidden rivals - early days (on the early days ep. / brave new world)
s.l. session - needle drama [sls' octave mix] (from 'remixes v1' / cycle)
mistress barbara - my passion for you (a1 on '666 fvw' / primevil)
dave clarke - parameter (on 'directional force' / sonic groove)

these are all the tracks i could find in my box that follow this
style... obviously a sad testimonial.. but i intend to fix that.

recommendations will be highly appreciated...

thanks,

Track ID, please.

2001-03-17 Thread crisk

Hi,

I heard this track a couple of times.. the record label on the vinyl is
black or very dark.. one DJ even shouted the name to me, but I really
couldn't hear anything over the massive volume.

Anyhow, the track got a really, really deep bass. There's a big break,
in which only this really dark and deep continuous bass is left. I bet
most of you know it, so I took the time and fopped up a short sample
of what I remember (this bass in the break). Granted, it's as accurate as
I remember it.

The sample is at:
http://crisk.webjump.com/id.mp3 (around 100k, nothing big)

So.. please, let me know if you recognize this track.. I'm sure you would.

Thanks,

This months DJ magazine has a UK Techno special, which features some
information as well as an interview with Oliver Ho, as well as Dave Clarke,
Regis, Surgeon, Steve Bicknell, and some others, although I can't really
remember who exactly. The article is surprisingly decent considering its in
DJ, the guy who wrote it almost apologizes for having it published in a major
magazine, which I found amusing. One of the questions that was asked to all
the people who were interviewed was something like what is your relationship
to Detroit and the answers are interesting.

Overload Magazine (a UK Techno magazine) version 2.0 (May 2000) has a
two-page interview with Oliver Ho which is rather good. This magazine
can be obtained for free (ie only shipping costs) from Juno Records
(www.juno.co.uk), and there should be even more info about Ho (and many
others techno musicians) at Overload's web site - www.overloadmedia.co.uk.

I've worked with Rockhouse in the past. Before I discovered other, -good-
online shops. They have a really, -really- large catalogue, but most of it
seems to be out of stock. My first order with them took a week getting
here, but the second took way, way too long (they hold orders for up to 8
weeks before giving up on 'out of stock' items to be restocked). I would
recommend using them only if you can't find what you need in a serious,
highly customer-aware shop, say Groovetech ( :) ), Juno or Hard-To-Find
records. Rockhouse do seem to have a way of getting rather hard to find
European (especially Dutch..) records, though.
