(313) Buzz Records history

2002-12-16 Thread Remco . Doorewaard
Hi, can someone tell me a bit about the history on the detroit artists -
Buzz Records connection that existed around 1990-1992?

Is there a website somewhere?

Who ran the label and how did the connection get established?

Thanks, Remco

it was a belgium label, being part of Indisc.
Indisc was more of a marketing music thing, trying to sell everything to be
sold.
Nomad and Rozella were on Buzz as well, as well dutch guy Eric van den
Broek, who did Shiver afterwards, and Orlando Voorn as Baruka :)

Jan Berquin and Jan van den Bergh were the ones in charge.

below some bits from the 313 archive, which is in the first place about the
serena x things ..

 steve cop

this is the info I got from one of the guys who worked at buzz concerning
 serena x.

we did go wrong on the pressing at the time. the second cut on the 12 is
indeed the path by dan curtin (one of his first musical dwellings) and
not the mentioned serena x original as stated on the label.

more info on panic in detroit and the belgium connection.
buzz records released several of the -now regarded- classics of the genre.
the specific album panic in detroit was compiled by damon booker and
myself (jan van den bergh-labbelboss buzz records) and featured established
and new artist from detroit.the only non-american on the album is inertia,
which is actually gerald simpson (a guy called gerald), but he could not
perform under his own name due to contractual obligations.
the album took 3 trips to detroit and over a year to compile, but is still
seen as one of the albums that reflects the real spirit of detroit.

2002-12-16 Thread Wibo Lammerts
If I recall correctly, Buzz was an offshoot from Indisc records, which was
an offshoot from Arcade, a big Dutch TV compilations company.

The man behind Buzz was Jan van den Bergh, now known as Lounge DownTempo
DJ Monte La Rue. I asked him once about that period, he told me that he did
it all for the love of the music, and that he felt closely connected with
the people in Detroit and Chicago. He also told me that there was talk about
putting out that Sterling Void album, but that one fell through.

He now lives in Amsterdam, and runs Cinque Etoiles records.
