Re: (313) Moritz in 1984
[Richard Hester gwrenc...@sbcglobal.net] Typical 80's video. Side/snide comment- Fehlmann still had hair... Palais Schaumburg was pretty formative stuff for me back in the day. I didn't know at the time that the group started off Thomas Fehlmann, Moritz von Oswald, and Holger Hiller (those names were important for me later), and I think also had FM Einheit for a brief time. According to Wikipedia: The band was originally formed in 1980, featuring Timo Blunck, Holger Hiller, Thomas Fehlmann, and percussionist F. M. Einheit. The group's name stands for Das Palais Schaumburg in Bonn, the former residence of German chancellor. Einheit left the group, eventually to join Einst?rzende Neubauten and was replaced by Ralf Hertwig prior to Palais Schaumburg's first full length album Palais Schaumburg which was produced by David Cunningham and released in 1981. Shortly after it was released, Hiller left the band and started his solo career. He was replaced with Moritz von Oswald and vocalist Walther Thielsch. -- :: atomly :: [ ato...@atomly.com : www.atomly.com : http://blog.atomly.com/ ... Re: (313) Moritz in 1984
After P.S. broke up, Fehlmann was active in the Teutonic Beats scene, where he met Thiel/Loderbauer of Sun Electric fame (they were in Fischerman's Friend). Von Oswald was in Teutonic Beats group Marathon, along with Hertwig. Fehmann met Alex Paterson of the Orb while Paterson was an AR man for Editions EG (and the beat goes on). Hiller taught guitar to Andreas Dorau (ATBGN...). It's interesting that Palais Schaumburg was a nexus for so many talents. atomly wrote: [Richard Hestergwrenc...@sbcglobal.net] Typical 80's video. I didn't know at the time that the group started off Thomas Fehlmann, Moritz von Oswald, and Holger Hiller (those names were important for me later), and I think also had FM Einheit for a brief time. A far-seeing DJ on KFJC back in the 80's played a lot of tracks from Schaumburg's album Parlez-Vous Schaumburg and got me interested. Easy Go was a favorite, as well as Beat of Two. I wanted to ask Fehlmann when I interviewed him back in '99 whether the nice horn fanfare that ushers in Beat of Two was a sample or Synclavier or real horns, but the question got lost in the hurley-burley. Fehlmann - an unsung techno hero - more connections than a switchboard For a cute/artless/low-budget video, check out the clip for Die Doraus und Die Marinas Fred vom Jupiter. That was Andreas Dorau's first big release (relatively speaking), back when he was still a wee teener. Very, very '80s, kinda cute, and still worth a listen at this late date. I believe Thomas Fehlmann was in the group too, will have to look again to see if I can spot him. P. Cool - I really like Palais Schaumburg and a lot of the other NDW bands (the less commercial ones) this past summer I picked up their LP Lupa at a record swap always keeping my eye out for the NDW bands MEK southernoutp...@gmail.com wrote on 12/03/2009 04:01:46 AM: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohytG5wyFvk Nice dance moves!
