However, some people I know don't like it because of the tempo (very fast). Yeah I'm a sad Hood-o-phile as I will go on abt said dude for hours if given half the chance, but pls permit me one more thing: Abt a month ago, picked up Nighttime World Volume Two after years of searching (ok, abt 3). If your idea of Hood is 150 rpm, hard and 'minimalistic' loops and nothing else - it shouldn't be, as his last few LPs on Peacefrog and Logistic, have shown quite a few other sides to his talent - I especially like the fd up 'electronica' excursions. But to disabuse yourself even further of any type-casting, you would do well to cast an ear over NTW volume I (very readily available) (Cheap, '95) and if you can find it - it's not easy, but it's possible - NTW II (M-Plant, 2000). There you will find many wonderful and ear-opening styles, from down-tempo, soulful, r 'n'b -esque, housey, more abstract ambient studies, a lot that's enlightening and even profound. NTWII especially, with it's 3 x12" is going to be so useful as it's just like slower, more textural dance music, made by a proper dj therefore very easy to programme. Anyway - my recommendation. (If this thread was orighinally meant to be about stuff you could find in HMV, sorry! :-) Peace, k k

yea thats it i'm home now and can look. the b-side is my fav, but the slight acid feel of the a-side is very nice. i also got the phil parnell on perlon, has a akufen feel to it, i must say i like this one is very groovy. i would also suggest the k-led - detroit city on force inc. it has a uhmm; a very detroit feel to it. (lol) kinda reminds me of octive one or something on kms. you cannot go wrong in buying this! i just wish the "saunderson synth sound" was a little louder in the mix, and the vox a little less. but its still a groovy tune and worth the cash imo. -scotto lansing, mi. plaztikjezuz.com - Original Message - From: "Hans Veneman" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: <313@hyperreal.org> Sent: Friday, September 12, 2003 3:37 PM Subject: Re: (313) Recommend... > there is a different matt johnson that is rockin. forget th elabel but > it is american dom. or at least the price was only $6 if it was an > import. RE: (313) Recommend...
Here's their bio: A dynamic duo, bound by a mutual love of badass beats, Jean Jacques Perry, melodic loopiness andJohn Carpenter - this is 7-Hurtz. They're probably best known for their anthemic club tracks "Beatbox" and "Stokers Motor" which tore up dancefloors on release in 2000. Killer riffs, electro stylings and sinister beats have made them classics of the Electro genre. It's not surprising that 7-Hurtz's work is of such quality when you take a peep at the pair's artistic pedigrees - Ben Cowan was a dancer with contemporary dance outfits such as Ricochet and Bedlam, with whom he had travelled the European festival circuit. In addition to this, he was also a member of the LoWilliams Band, which you may not have heard of, but ended up supporting George Clinton at the Phoenix Festival. The LoWilliams Band were signed to a small indie label, Orange Egg. The boss was a dapper young-man-about-town, Brand New heavies founder Lascelles Gordon. When not administering his fledgling label, Gordon kept himself busy as a session musician for the likes of The Sandals, Beth Orton and the notorious Campag Velocet. His club night "Helter Stupid" was the destination of choice for Londoners seeking "offal sewage for the ears." Amazingly, he managed to squeeze in a solo music career into this hectic lifestyle, a project called "Rock Oil". It was for the aforementioned project that Lascelles requested Ben's help with a couple of tracks. The experiment proved successful - and before long, our two chums were soon making music, experimenting with a flood of ideas, theories and notions which came together to create the unique sound of 7-Hurtz. When the pair initialised the collaboration, they had some definite ideas on what they were trying to achieve, as Ben explains. "We were interested in doing electronic music that involved improvisation, found sound, semi-generative, visually stimulated work that moved away from the music we had been doing. We also wanted to make the music in a way that meant the processes of writing, playing and recording converged so that we could do it ourselves" A tape made its way to a graphic designer Lascelles knew. The designer had recently set up Output and was enthused enough by the pairs' ideas to release "Beatbox". Nice one, Trevor! "Audiophiliac", a dark propulsive journey through funk/electro/hip hop and 303/808 cultures, received unanimous critical acclaim, with tracks such as "Beatbox" and "Stokers Motor" landing like grenades on the listening public. The bands myriad influences - the retro-futuristic sounds, the John Carpenter "Assault On Precinct 13" obsessions and Hashim-style bleakness all contributed to a sound that revitalized and redefined the Electro scene. 7-Hurtz enthusiastically set to work on the follow up, due out soon. Meanwhile, Lascelles is continuing his session work, cameos with old muckers like Velocet and Beth Orton. He also runs a monthly night at Hoxton hotspot Herbal, unambiguously named "Warm Leatherette". Meanwhile, Ben's not staying in watching Brookside. He's just completed a Masters degree, is looking forward to doing 7-Hurtz live, and is plotting "generative/heuristic performances and projects". Go, boy! Whatever happens next, you can bet your granny 7-Hurtz will take you on a f*cked-up twisted trip to the heart of the beat...and beyond Michael.Elliot-Knight @fallon.com To: "Grammenos, Peter" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> cc: 313 <313@hyperreal.org>, ryan burns 09/12/03 02:08 PM <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, "'Tom Churchill'" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: RE: (313) Recommend... Date: Fri, 12 Sep 2003 10:38:51 +0100 OKIve got a unwanted gift CD from HMV, its worth £16.99. I went last night on my way home and try to get a refund on it only to be told that I cant have one (ill miss out the rest of the conversation, but I wasn't happy) All I can do is do a swap for another CD. So somewhat irate I looked around but couldn't find anything in the 10 mins I had before they shut. Planning on going again later...any recommendations for me that I can pick from the somewhat non specailist HMV Ps no looped bangers please :) On heavy rotation atm are the Emoticon Sampler, The Irma Soul in Motion comp and anything on Archive. So Deep Techno. Thanks In Advance. Rav _ Fast, faster, fastest: Upgrade to Cable or DSL today! https://broadband.msn.com

HMV used to sell the Derrick May MayDay mix, a must have if you've not already got it - also they'll probs have a fair bit of the DJ Kicks series [not sure whats still available but Ive been listening to the Stacey Pullen one recently which is really nice and deep]. Good luck with your quest to find some decent 313 in HMV !! peace, marc > -Original Message- > From: Mann, Ravinder [CCS] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Friday, September 12, 2003 10:39 AM > To: '313' > Subject: (313) Recommend... > > > OKIve got a unwanted gift CD from HMV, its worth £16.99. > I went last night on my way home and try to get a refund on > it only to be told that I cant have one (ill miss out the > rest of the conversation, but I wasn't > happy) All I can do is do a swap for another CD.
