The second arm is used for playing another part of the same record at the
same time. The turntable has opposing arms, at 180 degrees to each other,
and each has its own output, IIRC. Accordingly, you could plop the second
tonearm down somewhere in a totally different spot, and fade that in (say
without the bass), and get an odd delaying sort of effect. I've always
thought you could hear this on the Concept variations (I think that's what
they were called).

Oh - also, someone mentioned mixes. There was a good one on the Bent Crayon
site a few years ago. It was about three hours long, but encoded at very low
bitrate. This was from around the time that he first started to get some
attention. Also, there was quite a fervor about him on the list back then, I
think it was around 1999. The archives have heaps of info on him.

I just find when Brinkmann stuf fis gd, it just get's under my skin in a
 strange way.

Yeah I hear that...it took me awhile to warm to his stuff but now I'm a
serious devotee.

Hasn't he made records that are comprised purely of loops made from
scratches he
 has made on vinyl?

Yeapthe man's got some intriguing concepts.

his live shows are very energetic and just plain fun...go to one if
you
 have the chance.

I'll second that! Grammenos got me to go to one of his shows a few years
ago and I was blown away

I read somewhere him saying he'd discovered that a scratch, or more like an
etch of a certain depth on a piece of vinyl (he'd done the calculations and
experiments) would make a sound like a bass kick. What he's done on ocassion
is use this very same kicks to compose with. Now that's bizarre! Plus check
out his videos, again bizarre, but demonstrative of a sense of humour @
least ...
