exactly. another thing is with DJs who use
a lot of acapellas (Terrence Parker, Louie
Vega, etc). they'll lay an acapella over an
instrumental and have some people thinking
that what they are hearing (A an instrumental
plus B an acapella laid over it) is C: a new
record. this happens all the time with Vega,
as people on the HOuse 2000 list will testify.
plenty of "what was that track Vega played
with the vocal that goes..." and then a few
days later someone will figure out "oh yeah,
that was the acapella from song X, he must
have been playing it over something else
cos I know there aren't new versions of it out,
but he did it so well, i was *sure* it was a
new version".
TP told me in one of the interviews I did with
him that trainspotters have asked him about
records he "created" on the spot (with acapellas
over instrumentals) and even bugged record
stores for them (ie they're asking for records
that don't exist!) because they hear a mix
he's done and don't realize it's a "creation"
of his, and not a new record. seeing tp here in halifax last
year, i can see why this happens. andrew duke :)
