Re: (313) problems posting, carl craig, melancholic techno, hawtin, mills, b***hfest, arsenal, dublin

2006-08-28 Thread Aidan O'Doherty
 hello list,

posted the following email below on friday, but got no replies as
 full-on
bitchfest, unsurprisingly, seems to be distracting everyone. so here goes
round two and hopefully some kind people will generously take some time
 out and
answer my questions. the line about melancholic techno seems
 appropriate as
all this scrappin' is depressing (as well as the fact that both arsenal and
dublin lost this weekend). i naively thought we were all,
 roughly, on
the same page, musically. as the song goes 'spread love' (but hate seems a
lot more fun, especially when you're watching from the sidelines). you know
what, i'd love to go for beers with both tom cox and fred giannelli - maybe
not at the same time, though.

 ta mucho,
 aidano

now, the real reason why i'm posting - carl craig's dj-kicks mix
 cd. he
uses clark 'jak to basics' but the track on the cd does not seem
 to bear any
relation to what's on the planet e release. according to
 discogs, there are
tracks misnamed on the cd, but this is not one of them. i only
 have the
fiirst vinyl of the lofthouse doublepack, is this track from
 side c or d? if
it's a remix of 'jak to basics' carl craig should release it asafp.

also, i have a great love for melodic, melancholic techno, eg
 ur's the
illuminator, icon, sterac's osirion, model 500's starlight, likemind
rekeases, a lot of arne weinberg's stuff, can anyone make any
 suggestions of
releases that tug at the heartstrings but could still work on
 dancefloor, eg
octave one's burujha? especially recent releases from lesser
 known labels
and lesser known artists. want to know what move people on this
 list, not
just the usual suspects like at les - hopefully the tracks
 they recommend,
if anyone recommends anything, would have the same effect on me.

in reference to hawtin, don't think he deserves to be demonised so
much. techno needs 'superstars', you never know. hawtin can be
 the first point of
contact when it comes to techno for kids, which may lead them
 to delve
deeper and find the really good stuff. he could be viewed as a
 portal to
this world. if anyone deserves ire, it's the likes of tiesto.
 also, he is
the subject of the slices dvd, he didn't make it. and i see
 they have ur on
the cover of one of their mags,

maybe doing the hawtin edition paid for that.

hawtin, villalobos, etc. always come across as personable and
affable individuals. last time villalobos played in dublin he was
 handing out his
bottle of vodka and sharing it with the crowd and playing some
 top notch
music. these guys are approachable, not like mills, if recent
 anecdotes i've read are true:

i had the same kind of issue - posted my own cease fire about the
bitchfest to the list and it never came through. perhaps this was
because i changed the subject line? we'll see if this one makes it.
