[313] Couple of new records...

2001-09-10 Thread Jonny McIntosh
Picked up an excellent record on Friday: a RushHour distributed $tinworx
sampler. Otto mentioned them to me before (run by Minto and someone else on
313?) 3 excellent tracks in a Metro Area/Parrish sort of style. The track on
it's own has a tremendous 80s hi NRG/Morgan Geist feel to it whilst the flip
has an early Balihu kind of sample based track (my pick of the three) and a
downbeat Theo Parrish-like cut. Well done, guys, it's wicked. Is there more
in the offing/that I have missed? I want more :)

Also picked up the remixes of Strings Of Life that I guess are the same as
the ones TP was mentioned as playing a few months back. Surprised to find
them to be very, very good. Both mixes (one is pseudo live) are half
recognisably SOL and half gorgeous darker Detroit styled strings -
definitely an old school feel, right down to the noisy (in a good way)
pressing.

Jonny.

Excellent record indeed, i still can't believe i didn't pick those up when
they were released on their own downLow label.
You should also check their release on Bunker. 6 (iirc) tracks, kinda Dan
Curtinesque but with a different twist. Another excellent $tinkworx
production (IMO of course).

Chris.

I picked this up a couple of weeks back, along with two other one-sided ltd
releases on Rush Hour, by MOS and Miekbar. All excellent stuff in a KDJ/Heard
kind of vein. Anybody have more info on these artists, or whether there will be
an
on-going series of these releases from Rush Hour?

Sean.

Yep the rush hour sampler is a re-release on 12 of the $tinkworx tracks
from the first 2 down low releases, which were 7s. there will be more of
these floating around soon, they have never been very available [especially
in the USA]..also more dL003's [Plastic Sleeves] and new dL004's [a 12 v/a
with Convextion, Plastic Sleeves, and less-known names] around very
soon..please check them out!

Aren't the new Strings of Life mixes the live version that Derrick May and Carl
Craig performed at the Town and Country club in the UK around 1988 and Ashley
Beedle's remix of that performance? That's what I thought anyway.
