Marianne Faithful and Band, Angie Stone (nice
 interpolation/sampling of the
o'jays back stabbers' on her track 'I wish I didn't
 miss you' nice song!!)

 the Dox Orchestra

Detroit Innovators is an adventurous mixture of
 Dance, Electronic, Soul and
 Funk music.

This combination unites Carl Craig, innovative
 artist of the international
Dance music scene, Leon Ware a true legend of Soul
 music, Wah Wah Watson a
prodigious and unique guitarist and Sandra St Victor
 a talented diva of
Nu-Soul. Their individual collaborations of the past
 and present go from
Marvin Gaye to Herbie Hancock to the Roots and
 Angélique Kidjo. In company
of the Dox Orchestra, these personalities put
 themselves to reconsider Soul
music in the light of their influence and their
 innovation. The Detroit
Innovators allow` their members to get to a higher
 level while confronting
 their different experiences.

I haven't heard much of Leon ware (songwriter to
 Marvin gaye..et al) , I
have his album from 1982 (with the nice track 'Why I
 came to California')
recently reissued, and Sandra St victor was in the
 Roy Ayres ubiquity I
think, and the family stand (sweet liberation)..
 forgive my ignorance who is
 the dax orchestra??

I thought Carl Craig's collaboration with herbie
 Hancock was pretty cool. I
wonder if these 'Detroit Innovators' will release
 anything.. I Hope so.

anybody heard anything about these collaborations??

 cheers,
 Dave

Re: [313] Detroit Innovators...Montreux Jazz Festival

2002-08-15 Thread :P
the jazz fest was one of my best memories of detroit as a child.

I'll never forget (I hope) seeing dizzy gillespie play there, relatively
soon before he passed away.

a great great time, I wish I could go.
