[313] Mathew Herbert Live

2001-07-02 Thread Grammenos, Peter

Wow! That about sums up the live NYC Mathew Herbert @ joe's pub on friday.
He had 3 microphones setup, one through an echo and the other two through
compressors. He started of by making a pop using his mouth into one of the
microphones then walked back to his akai (old, very old) sampler and started
looping it on the fly. But wait that didn't sound just right, so he went up
and did it again, this time got it right, sampled it , looped it, then
triggered his sequencer. All the time using his hand over an alesis (??)
controlling the filter of the sound... He also had a kaos pad up there and a
jv-80. He continued doing this through the night, sampling bottles clanging,
dani siciliano singing, etc... Most of the stuff he dropped was off his
bodily functions album but he did perform "Going Round" ...

Shame K7! didn't let a lot of people in and there were a lot of disappointed
fans ;( Some still standing outside after the show...

I heard he went over to openair afterwards and did a, dare i say, a horrible
d.j. set there around 3ish... can anyone confirm?

I just have to say what a brilliant, brilliant album Bodily Functions is. I
*think* it may even surpass Around the House, but I'll have to get back to
you on that one (its a big call).

2001-07-03 Thread Michael Kim

i took a listen the other day too, and i must say it's absolutely brilliant
too, but the lack of danceable tracks and the really low BPM of most of the
tracks (i'd say less than 110 bpm) made me pass... lots of beatless vocal
tracks, really beautiful material. a couple of those vocal cuts are just
DYING to be laid over a house beat.
