Re: [313] Russ Gabriel
I think Russ Gabriel owns the Ferox label. You should definitely check that out (they have two comps, Adventures in Techno Soul). And I have a very incomplete/in progress discography at: http://www.discogs.com/artist/Russ_Gabriel -Kevin On Wed, Dec 13, 2000 at 06:45:52PM +0200, Jussi Lehtonen wrote: > > > Could someone please mail Mr Gabriel's discography and perhaps some > additional information on what he's currently up to? > I've heard only his 10" on Planet E which is titled "Fusion" or > something. Re: [313] Russ Gabriel
Russ Gabriel runs the excellent Ferox label, you can get a discography for that at Amazing Discographies, http://ad.techno.org/generator.html (he records as himself and Too Funk for Ferox). Also check out his top jazzy Soul on Wax releases (there are only 2 that I know of, both are excellent) and a release on Soma, Pilgrimage. The last EP was recorded partly in Detroit (the Live in Detroit track, imaginatively), hence the title. The best track on that being Alligator Voodoo (do I remember that right?), IMO. Including the Fusion 10", that's all I can think of by him - anyone know of any others? I have heard that he is a bit bored of techno these days, and listens to Herbie Hancock instead. 'melody maker' on the 'future funk' lp is a great track. There is another one, grey and white photo on the cover with some geeky looking dude infront of a HUGE modular synth. What was that one?? Can't remember for the life of me. That was released in 94/95 maybe, before he started doing really jazzy/funky stuff. Very electronic and not a bit like his later work on Ferox. You'll have to pull those Fusion EP's on Ferox from my cold dead hands when I go to the grave, nobody touches those! From speaking to someone on the weekend, Ferox is currently in stasis, and probably the same for Soul on Wax. Currently he is resident in Taiwan DJing or something like that. He may be doing some touring in South East Asia in early 2001, and if we're really lucky may hit New Zealand and Australia. Fingers crossed! Definitely one of my favourite musicans alongside Ian O'Brien. YEAH! out. d. _ Get more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com

previously... russ has various things planned at the moment... i've just heard a great new track by russ on a sampler for tom churchill's headspace offshoot emoticon... one for you all to look forward to ;) also - for those of you in the uk, if you're after the fusion eps, you could do worse than giving sisterray a call - they have the ferox cd that compiles them all at mid-price at the moment... some other ferox cds at mid-price as well... i don't work for them - just trying to look out for you kids ;) all the best, [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://twoplayer.net http://nortroute.net _ Get more from the Web. (313) Russ Gabriel Feature Tonight (Wild Kingdom Warning)
Tonight's Wild Kingdom (and next week's) features an introduction to the work of British producer Russ Gabriel, a name that should be heard a lot more often hereabouts. Tonight's program starts out with his first release '93 release under his own name on Ferox, and goes up to '98. Nest week, it'll be his work from '98 to the present. Last week's playlist is at http://www.kfjc.org/music/playlist.php?i=35420 . For amusement, you might want to check out a Country-Western special I did yesterday - playlist is at http://www.kfjc.org/music/playlist.php?i=35462 . Check the Mayhem calendar at www.kfjc.org for other specials that may be of interest - you never know. Limited time archives for all shows on KFJC (including this one) are available at http://www.kfjc.org/broadcast_archives/ . These are "rolling archives", available for two weeks after any given show. My shows are listed under "Goodwrench". Send comments and suggestions to i...@kfjc.org . "The Wild Kingdom" airs on KFJC-FM 89.7, Saturday night/Sunday Morning, 12A-3A (8A-10A GMT). Potential listeners outside the San Francisco Bay area can find a webcast at http://www.kfjc.org/netcast/index.php . Present and past Wild Kingdom playlists are also archived at kfjc.org. You can also check out archived playlists from my first KFJC show "Just Desserts" that was on Fridays 10P-2A from 1992 through 1999. Archived playlists exist for that show starting from Fall 1995 to New Year's Eve 1999/2000, so you can see what what I'm up to these days is pretty much consistent with what I was up to all along. If you do tune in (especially via the web), please take a little time to let me know your locale. I'm also interested in promo music from all over and in promoting local (San Francisco Bay area) techno-type events. If you want to do some promotion for an event, contact the KFJC promotions department at pr...@kfjc.org to arrange ticket giveaways and/or to send information for inclusion in our concert outlook. Thanks to those who have sent promo music so far. Regards, Richard Hester "Mr. Goodwrench" "The Wild Kingdom" SU 12A-3A KFJC-FM 89.7, Los Altos Hills, California

(313) russ gabriel - the other side project vol 1, newish stuff
just got a promo of this upcoming album on emoticon, and it's excellen i cant do a proper review right now, but wow, that track masonette -- beautiful, beautiful..and hot too..! lots of other dope, spacey, space-jazzy broken beat, electro, techno on there too..great great basslines, sweet melodies, and i am a sucker for those funk chords russ uses (as in 'jazz in the funk', 'tisch-tennis'...)..an album from a master and it shows...overall is more techno than i expected, spacey! also very much enjoy the recent 12"s by rei loci and arne weinberg on headspace...especially the a-side of rei's being wicked stomping melodic techno jams with a real detroit feeling, bit of juan in there, and the first and last cuts on arne's record deep deep moody slightly loose gems along the lines of old 3mb. quality techno yayyy also recently heard: aaron carl on afrosyntrix -- dancefloor jams, very nice stripped down chit...has a nice stripped down computer-voice retake on that "if you aint got no cash..." song...and the two last cuts (there are 6 total) are rea nice...bringing some deep strings and hot chords (ctrl-end reminds very much of drexciya's waterwalker)...reccomended...afrosyntrix s a great label, this is the 4th after 3 nice erotek 12s.. wanexa/expansives/spoonich reissue 12" on i-f's panama, very very essential for italo lovers...that wanexa is so fuzzed out its crazy, and the expansives has the softest nicest portamento'd bassline...yeah...all officially licensed this time around... recloose (vs meikbar) us vs us on rush hour, the original is pretty nice smooth kinda cut up house, guess it's much like what you'd expect from recloose, but the kid sublime (of rednose distrikt) remix on the b is just super super deep beautiful straight-beats hiphop...or real slow house kinda the same thing rightdope dope! dj minx record on women on wax (#2), had a quick listen, not a great record, some nice congas and bits here and there, seemed a little undeveloped/unfinished overall, but shows lots of promise... btw while i was in dallas a few weeks ago, we headed down to the usa's biggest record convention in austin -- i got juan & 3mb (tresor #7), sealed, for 2$...maybe my best bargain find ever..such a great record (aside from bassmental which i'm not so hot on) bye jt _ Concerned that messages may bounce because your Hotmail account is over limit?
