I think it's a Herbie Hancock sample. but is it 'Magic Number' or 'Saturday
Night'?

I like quizzes.

I think both for sure. a) it has progressed, and exists in different forms
- but people call it other things or genres these days. and b) that sound
does definitely still exist as 'techno' too - erm, trying to think of a
good example, I guess there was alot last year.

no, me too. must be something to do with xmas and all that cr*p. although,
as of today at around 9am I kicked my ass out of this depression and am
generally feeling 100% enthusiastic about music again. ESPECIALLY after
what I'm listening to right now! Hmm, might even go the record shop at
lunch. New Mahogani coming, new theo parrish record due...hm

RE: (313) 313 holiday quiz

2004-01-06 Thread diana potts

Honestly..i havent been excited about music in years.
I attempted to go record shopping whilst on vacation
and found that most of the records already sounded
like ones I had. the same things being repeated over
and over again. When I have bought records over the
last couple years its been on labels like Leaf, Hefty
and Ghostly. Things more along the lines of Prefuse
73, Tadd, and Thomas Jirku. I actually attempted to
play with my turntables the other day and wound up
feeling quite contempt with Pole and other dub
selections that were at least 2-4 years old.

The music that usually excites me nowadays is things
that are nostalgic like ODB or TCQ. While in toronto
we went to go hear Gerald play and it was nice to hear
electro pieced together well and just well...out.
Personally my lack of ethusiasm is probably because my
head is just not 95% deep in music anymore, dare i say
not even 50%- I have other things going on in my life
and not to mention I'm broke as a joke.

the forthcoming Telefon Tel Aviv album really got my
interest back in music. It was as if someone woke me up
from a sleep. tunes and artists along these lines
continually hold my interest for some reason or
another. perhaps it's because,to me, there seems to be
almost feelable texture to their music. It's emotional
and electronic at the same time. For me, anymore, the
boomboomboom has about as much emotion and excitement
as watching a shopping channel.

morning rants...
time for work.

Is that why it's not being pressed any more?

The first question is 'where has beautiful groovy
 melodic techno gone' ?

well, I don't agree too much - it's out there.

But, some of the most beautiful deep melodic techno I have heard for years
and years (honestly) WILL be out in 2004 for sure. and there's quite a bit
of it coming too.
