Re: (313) Jesse Saunders and Chip E tour? in Minneapolis

2004-03-02 Thread James Hurlbut
'Jesse does a monthly Legends of House party here in SF. For me, it's up
and down. In general he plays new uptempo progressive house type stuff. Too
hard and repetitive for my house. He plays some tracks that sample classic
house but with in my opinion annoying trancey production. Chip E was ok.
Alot of deep house classics and a few jackers if I remember correctly. It
would be cool to see the film. I mostly go to the night for historical
signifigance since those guys have been around so long. Here in SF the
night doesn't usually draw out the house crowd, mostly the general clubbing
public (i.e. meat markety scene), but that could be due to the
overabundance of skilled house technicians here. I was surprised
considering his dj sets, that Jesse Saunders did the R. Kelly remix of
Step in the Name of Love which is a very soulful house track if it's the
same one that I';ve heard played out a few times. Maybe he is trying to
distance himself from the past in terms of djing. Personally, I'd go the
show just for the self contained 1200 digital turntables ;) (I think he
might mean Final Scratch).

RE: (313) Jesse Saunders On and On

2003-03-26 Thread rob

My copy has just arrived, so I've just had a chance to check it out! The
only change from the original track listing on Jes say records 1984 and
the repress on Broken records is the extra Megamix, everything else is
the same.

The Megamix, is very similar (Not identical) to the original On On by
Mach released 1980 on Remix records. This version also included the
Toot Toot, Beep Beep from Donna summers Bad Girls. If you click on this
link http://home.wanadoo.nl/discopatrick/othmix1.htm and go down to the
second record picture, which is: Mach - Funky Mix and then look below
you will see that the side II track is On On... This is the exact record
that Jesse Saunders use to start his sets off with in 1982 until it was
stolen from him, then he reworked it and On On by Jesse Saunders was
born, you can read all about it and see a picture of the Side II (On and
On) in Jonathan Fleming's book What Kind Of House Party Is This? Page 245.

Enjoy and Have a nice day! :O)

This classic has been repressed... Pick it up.

yes sir! I think i missed this discussion earlier but is the only track on
the repress that was on the original the 'original vocal' ?

Where did the 'megamix' come from on the repress and is it new or old?
Great stuff though.

cheers
