Another one for your diaries

The Outlet Collective and Digital Soul Records presents the 2nd of two
nights of:

Digital Soul Rebels @ S.E.N.D

Saturday 11th September 2004
An unnanounced East London venue

Featuring

-Ian O'Brien (Ferox, Peacefrog. UK)
-The Concrete Soul Collective presents: Electronical Funk with Soul LIVE
featuring:
Kenny Black (Digital Soul, Finest Blend Recordings, Sweden)
Simon 'WildPlanet' Hartley (430 West, Warp)

and Outlet and Digital Soul residents

Following on from the success of the last Digital Soul Rebels party which
saw Delsin's Peel Seamus and techno legend Dan Curtin well and truly rock
the house we now, as promised, bring you part 2!

Ian O'Brien needs little introduction. After 3 outstanding albums and a
stack of killer 12s and remixes for the likes of Telex, and Lisa Stansfield
as well as his eclectic Soul of Science compilations compiled with Kirk
Degorgio, Ian has proved himself to be something of a unique voice in
electronic music. His music often knows no boundaries and spans from pure
Detroit (Mad Mike Disease) to the deep Jazzy excursions of his classic
Gigantic Days album right through to what can only be described as the
techno equivelent of Apache (Teentown Beats). A talented musician that
constantly defies expectation we quite frankly have no idea what to expect
from him on the night! Yes, we know he's played Fabric, but this a rare
opportunity to catch the man up close and personal in a slightly more
intimate and underground environment.

Making thier LIVE UK debut is the mysterious and enigmatic Stockholm based
collective known as Concrete Soul. A collection of self proclaimed 'Funk
Tacticians' specialising in Hi-Tech Grooves. With releases already on thier
own Finest Blend Recordings label and with further funk due to drop on
Digital Soul Records this year, this PA is a unique opportunity to see two
of thier senior tacticians rocking the 24 track. The fact that half of the
duo is none other than Simon Hartley's AKA Wildplanet, best known for his
killer albums on both Warp records and the outstanding 'Transmitter' LP on
430 West, makes the prospect of this show even more exciting as his solo
shows as WildPlanet are legendary. Again, we dont really know what to
expect
from this one hour PA, other than that its going to rock the floor, but
dont
be surprised to hear some WildPlanet classics along with a bunch of new
material!

Tickets for this night are in advance only and, after the success of Part
one, we have no doubt they will sell out fast so dont hang about.

Re: (313) Wild Planet

2003-05-18 Thread Tom Robbins/Magic Feet
He's still in Sweden and may be resurfacing soon: a guy I know travels there
a lot and told me recently 'We've found Wild Planet!'. Apparently he works
in a record shop and hasn't donne much recording for ages, but might be
tempted out of 'retirement' in the coming months. He also recorded as
Feedback, btw, and released a could of great twelves under that name on the
now-defunct Brute label. Definitely one of the UK's most underrated talents.

Btw., Wild Planet is Simon Hartley, he's from the UK, and Transmitter
was recorded in Stockholm - he lived in Sweden (Swedish Techno? ; p ) at the
time, or still does, I don't know. So, anyone have an update on him?

The original is quite electro, which I like, whereas the 2 remixes are
a lot more dance-floor orientated, more Techno if you like. I prefer
the (long) Genotype remix, it's rougher, darker than the Human Code
remix. That's not bad either but a tad too slick I find. But that's
just me.

I never knew of that Synthetic release, dammit. ; )
There's a feature on Hartley on Andrew Duke's Cognition site, from
'99 when Transmitter came out:
