RE: [313] NYE letdown

2002-01-03 Thread Mike Taylor
It was like that all over. The nightlife industry(bars, clubs,
restaurants...) got hit pretty hard this year. The last few years they have
been getting great turn-outs because of the 99-00-01 hype and a good
ecomomy. The 90's are finally over(vibe-wise, to me at least) and the people
with money seem to be holding on to it pretty tight these days. I know of a
lot of bars that have been selling out of NYE presale tickets well in
advance for the last few years, and this year they did not sell even half
capacity.

I would have gone to porter street because the line-up was off the hook, but
it was so expensive. Why spend 35$ when you can have a few gin tonics at
home with your friends and listen to your own record collection? I have a
feeling that I am not the only person in town who took the alternate route
for NYE.

all the party people are old and boring... ;)

WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE PEOPLE WANTING TO

PARTY? was it like that at other clubs across the

RE: RE: [313] NYE letdown

2002-01-03 Thread Odeluga, Ken
Jeff Mills, exclusive London NYE at Mass, Brixton ... with clips from his
film project. Unforgettable and not too expensive! Do check out the 'Lost'
parties if you're ever in London.

My biggest problem though, when I go and see techno, is getting anyone to go
with me! Can't always even convince my girlfriend that it will NOT be a
night of shrill atmospherics with
fearsomely deep and loud beats ... Techno has a poor name in the UK. Based
on the misconceptions associated with the word, Given the huge spectrum
conceivable in this music, is the word now virtually meaningless?

We went to Panacea to hear Carl play (along w/ Ibex, and Michael
Geiger).

It wasn't packed at all, and people in attendance seemd like your
atypical bar crowd. But the music was the shit so I had a great time!

i am not sure if this has already been discussed, but
i thought that this NYE was sub-par. I went to porter
street. the line-up had shaped up to be awesome with
boo wiliams, glenn underground, minx, rick wilhite,
and waxmaster d smooth.

i thought the music all night was awesome. i also
thought that rick wilhite was amazing. but there were
only 35 people there (max). maybe ten people at the
most danced all night. the ball drop moment was much
like a premature orgasm...you were happy it happened
but wished it would have happened differently. i do
have to give props to porterstreet, they had great
dj's, a buffet, good sound, and still the stiffest
cranberry and vodkas known to man. I just have one
question...WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE PEOPLE WANTING TO
PARTY? was it like that at other clubs across the
city and country?

There was too many people IMHO. 20 min. wait at the
bar, 20 min. wait for the bathroom, 30 min. wait for
coatcheck, plus the drunken fools. A very intoxicated
girl decided to pick a fight with mine and Dennis'
wife, which caused us to leave right at the beginning
of Scan 7's set. But the music was great which made
it worthwhile (Gabe Real w/ an oldskool electro set :)
Does he always play that?), although we'll probably
stay in next year.
