i recently moved to sydney from new york. i thought my second record buying
days were over. but, strangely enough i keep finding gems for nothing. such
as the original of the the first release on transmat--let's go by xray. the
label has a women with binoculars looking to the future while a plane flies
overhead. plus i found a copy of kelli hand's 'global warning' on warp for
$4 aus (that's $2 u.s.). not to mention the larry heard rarities in
abundance, and quite a few others.
i hope the reason that they're cheap and available isn't because so few
people here are interested in detroit and quality house.
btw--the surface noise on the trax records, that's on the original pressing,
not just a product of time.

 It's always interesting when I find techno or house records at the thrifts;
 here's the latest batch:

KMS 012A REESE SANTONIO -Bounce Your Body To The Box BW The Sound
Pretty minimal techno/house beats ... pretty dated sounding

 KMS 024 REESE You're Mine
Interesting for little organ riff very similar to Good Life
Oh and one of those cringe-worthy 'hip house' mixes.

Also a bunch of Trax records -- I was in Chicago after all ;-)
All of them were sleeveless and looked like they'd been through YEARS
of playing with quarters on the head shells. Amazingly enough they
all play without skipping though there's enough surface noise to make a
whole basic channel track from ...

i picked up an original transmat pressing of nude photo a simple silver
label with blue text, the kool kat picture sleeve release of nude photo, and
the picture sleeve release of bam bam's where's your child. all for fifty
cents a pop...

RE trax: it's always been rumored, in the dirty south at least, that many a
converse sneaker sole ended up in their presses. if that's true is sure
would explain their signature cruddy sound.
