RE: Multi-Style Reference Toggle

2018-08-07 Thread Timothy Penner via 4D_Tech
Hi Tom,

I believe the correct answer (for Styled Text areas) was posted by Jeremy
French -
Use the ST SET OPTIONS command to toggle the expression display between
references and values:
http://doc.4d.com/4Dv17/4D/17/ST-SET-OPTIONS.301-3729984.en.html

The other answer provided by Chuck seems to be specific to 4D Write and will
not work with a styled text area.

Hi Pat,

Does your application already provide a REST API?
If not, then that is the approach I would recommend.
REST API’s are truly platform neutral, easy to maintain and easy to use.

Compared to ODBC it also gives you better control over the data that gets
accessed from your database. In my opinion it is the best way to go.

Kind regards,

RE: Query from C#?

2018-08-07 Thread Timothy Penner via 4D_Tech
There is a C library (C not C#) for connecting to 4D:
https://github.com/4d/SQLlib_4D

The C library is used for multiple different connectors including:
Python: https://github.com/ibrewster/p4d
PHP (pdo): https://github.com/famsf/pecl-pdo-4d

There is also a document describing the SQL Networking Protocol if you want to
build something that speaks the native 4D SQL protocol:
http://sources.4d.com/trac/4d_pdo4d/raw-attachment/wiki/WikiStart/SQL%20networking%20protocol.doc

Hope that helps!

height and width of a fixed prtinted object

2018-08-07 Thread Charles Miller via 4D_Tech
Hi All,
environment v 15. I have a printed form with a few fixed height and width
objects that are set to multi style. If object gets to large (width or
height). I will be placing text on another page and a note that states more
info is in comments section

I thought operhaps I could use object get best size, but find it does not
work as I expected

I have the following code

*C_LONGINT*($OLeft_L;$ORight_L;$OTop_L;$OBottom_L;$BWidth_l;$BHieght_L;
$OWidth_L;$OHeight_L)

*OBJECT GET COORDINATES*(*;"v_164_056_txt";$OLeft_L;$OTop_L;$ORight_L;
$OBottom_L)

$OWidth_L:=$ORight_L-$OLeft_L

$OHeight_L:=$OBottom_L-$OTop_L

*ST SET TEXT*(v_164_056_txt;"CAUSE OF DAMAGE : "+
[LSS_Inspection]LSS_DamageCause_txt;ST Start text;ST End text)

$pos_L:=*Position*(":";v_164_056_txt)  //

*ST SET ATTRIBUTES*(v_164_056_txt;1;$pos_L+2;Attribute bold style;1)

*ST SET ATTRIBUTES*(v_164_056_txt;1;$pos_L+2;Attribute background color
;"LightGray")

v_164_056_txt:=v_164_056_txt+" Testing height this is a test with losts of
wrapping and no CRs. "

v_164_056_txt:=v_164_056_txt+" Testing height this is a test with losts of
wrapping and no CRs. "

v_164_056_txt:=v_164_056_txt+" Testing height this is a test with losts of
wrapping and no CRs. "

v_164_056_txt:=v_164_056_txt+" Testing height this is a test with losts of
wrapping and no CRs. "

v_164_056_txt:=v_164_056_txt+" Testing height this is a test with losts of
wrapping and no CRs. "

v_164_056_txt:=v_164_056_txt+" Testing height this is a test with losts of
wrapping and no CRs. "

v_164_056_txt:=v_164_056_txt+" Testing height this is a test with losts of
wrapping and no CRs. "

v_164_056_txt:=v_164_056_txt+" Testing height this is a test with losts of
wrapping and no CRs. "

v_164_056_txt:=v_164_056_txt+" Testing height this is a test with losts of
wrapping and no CRs. "

v_164_056_txt:=v_164_056_txt+" Testing height this is a test with losts of
wrapping and no CRs. "

*OBJECT GET BEST SIZE*(*;"v_164_056_txt";$BWidth_l;$BHieght_L)

Thde width is way to wide. Is there a way I can adjust this so as to not
exceed the width as it appears on the form so only hieght changes in object
get best size

I am planning on writing some additional code to place text in arrays and
populate the text area one word at a time. If it gets too wide. I will add
a carriage return. This is a a lot of coding but should wortk. Any other
ideas out there

Thanks and regards

Chuck

Re: Query from C#?

2018-08-07 Thread Kirk Brooks via 4D_Tech
Hi Pat,
I know almost nothing about C# but as we say in 4D land, "why would you
want to do that?"

I can see why a customer would want it but why would you want them to be
able to? And how would you control what they can access?

I think if they want some sort of ad hoc query capability you'd be better
off with ODBC or some sort of http api or SQL - something you can control.
Having said that, Miyako may well dash off a plugin that someone could
socket into before I have time to post this...

Query from C#?

2018-08-07 Thread Pat Bensky via 4D_Tech
I've had an enquiry from a customer who wants to know if it is possible to
query the database from a C# script and produce a report.
Is it? (My knowledge of any version of C is way out of date ...)
(Using v17)

[ANN correction] 4DMethod August 8th Meeting – Configuration management for IT infrastructure using 4D, Balinder Walia

2018-08-07 Thread Brent Raymond via 4D_Tech
Hope to see you at our next 4DMethod meeting on
Wednesday, August 8th, 12:00 noon, CDT (UTC−5:00)! Our own Balinder Walia in
England will be digging into configuration management for IT cloud
infrastructure using 4D. Explore how entire cloud installations, like EC2
instances, web server config, networking, ports, passwords, etc., can be fully
automated and managed by 4D and Ansible Automation and Configuration management
tool. This demo will be invaluable for anyone running 4D in AWS currently or
who intends to stay technically competitive for years to come.

Get the details on how to participate here
.

Best regards,
