@JPR

thanks for sharing.

Lots of technicalities to enjoy us developers. Anything our customers will
appreciate and pay us for, because they see it, feel it or enjoy the
speed-improvement?

Summarised here what my customers will pay
me for in 2018.

just in case
- option-/alt-key pressed when accessing design closes all windows
- in runtime I click option-/alt-key to launch the context-menu to access
design
- before releasing the Goto Design-command, I get my hands off the
option-/alt-key
- if I didn't, all windows are closed, if I did, I'm back to where I last
had been working
Works fine, V15, V16 with and without R.

I liked that code-snippet from Vincent Delachaux
C_TEXT($database_name)
$database_name:=Replace string(Structure file(*);Get 4D folder(Database
folder;*);"")

until I used it in a Windows Final Application. This runs amok.

Get rid of those and restart the Mac, Adobe likes to be persistent.

Re: PDF in Web Area not displaying on a Mac

2017-10-19 Thread Ortwin Zillgen via 4D_Tech
while Acrobat Reader was relevant on macOS, it planted itself as the default
PDF-viewer inside a WebBrowser. That didn't work well with 4D webarea. As far
as I remember at a place like this
/Users/~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/acrobatreader.plugin
Removing the plugin allowed 4D to display PDFs in plain webarea.

On Windows it's the other way around. Acrobat Reader needs to be installed, to
allow 4D to display PDFs in webarea.

suppose your JavaScript is faulty.

I learned to love the WebKit-Debugger for that purpose

Afaik webarea uses the system-rendering engine which is some subset of an older
IE, even on Windows 10. Just checked: V12 does not support inclusion of WebKit
engine.

any fontsize below 13 points, maybe labes and smallprint at 11 points, is to
small for todays screen-resoultions (±130 dpi) and many users eyes.

you know, this is 1990-ies style of UI.
Stick with system font, 4D supports that. The customer dependent fonts should

Re: SVG Scale

2017-09-20 Thread Ortwin Zillgen via 4D_Tech
> SVG is a whole lot easier to manage in JavaScript.

I'm wondering about modern myths …

There is a wonderful component in every copy of 4D, which is called 4D SVG.

This is a gem of a component and makes working with SVGs in 4D so much easier.
I see the diehards still trying to do the xml-plumbing themselves.

For my own convenience and sometimes to better understand how it's done I check
the source of a 4D SVG-command

and then fix my code

if the SVG is displayed in a webarea, save the SVG to disk in a location
appropriate to the relative path and use
WA OPEN URL instead of WA SET PAGE CONTENT

otherwise you probably end up using
SVG_New_embedded_image
