[abcusers] A question about beams

2003-07-10 Thread Alasdair McAndrew
Hi there,

Suppose I have the following:

K:HP
M:2/2
L:1/8
d>ef

Then there will be a single beam joining all notes, with an extra beam between
the e and the f. But what I would like, rather than this extra beam, is an
extra flag on the e pointing backwards, and an extra flag on the f pointing
forwards. Is this possible with abc/abcm2ps?

Thanks,
Alasdair

[abcusers] Aligning bars across lines?

2003-04-03 Thread Alasdair McAndrew
Hi there,

I'm typesetting some highland bagpipe music, and sometimes it would be nice to
have the bar lines aligned from one line to the next. Notes as well, if
possible.

I use abcm2ps - can this be done?

cheers,
Alasdair

[abcusers] Correct syntax for right repeat bar line after a second time ending?

2003-01-06 Thread Alasdair McAndrew
Hi there

The subject line says it all: I have first and second time endings, after
which I need to start a repeat. But what is the correct syntax for this? I
am using abcm2ps (under linux), and every permutation of ]|: seems to produce
an error, or the wrong output.

Thanks for this!

cheers,
Alasdair

Re: [abcusers] Typesetting piobaireachd with abc?

2002-09-30 Thread Alasdair McAndrew

Hi there,

Thanks, folks, for all your helpful advice. Certainly the use of %%postscript
and %%deco would solve a few problems, but it requires a better knowledge of
postscript than I have.

The problem of "optional" bars is quite tricky. As far as I can tell, abc2ps
and its variants only allow optional endings, and can't give an optional bar
in the middle of a part. The effect I would want is of ordinary bar lines (no
double bars or thick bar lines), with a similar line above it as in the octava
example in deco.abc, but using a continuous line (not dashed), and with the
option of including your own text above the line. And of course the line would
have to be automatically shifted vertically to account for possible high notes
or graces in that bar.

The input

  | CD EF |2 GA Bc || de fg |

doesn't quite work because of the double bar at the right, and the line at the
top starts at the 2, but doesn't finish at the end of the bar. Then again you
can't replace the 2 with the text "Play in line 2 only". I don't know how you
would best express this in abc notation...nor do I know how to code it myself.

As a matter of related interest: has anybody written, or plan to write, a
brief introduction on using postscript effects with abc? Because another
effect I wuold like is of being able to include upside down "T"s or backward
"C"s in the vocal line, to indicate taorluath-a-mach and crunluath-a-mach.

[abcusers] Typesetting piobaireachd with abc?

2002-09-23 Thread Alasdair McAndrew

Hi there,

Does anyone know of abc software, running under unix/linux, whch allows the
following:

(1) Grace notes with different time values, such as {ge4d}?

(2) Optional bars in the middle of a part, with the possibility of putting
text over them such as "Play in line 2 only"?

Then I could get down to typesetting some piobaireachd.

cheers,
Alasdair
