[abcusers] Re: The new BarFly

2002-05-27 Thread Sauve Phil

I use the new BarFly

I question myself on two points

1- At opening, I get the message

Cannot find the macros folder (whyle the macros folder is indeed in the same
folder as BarFly)

2. When I replay a tune in the split screen mode, the music play always goes
back to the first tune entered and then I have to manualy go to the tune I
want repeated.

One possible reason for this is a corrupted preferences file. Quit from
BarFly (if it's running) and go into the System:Preferences folder. Find
the BarFly Preferences file and drag it out onto the desktop. Then
re-start
BarFly. The last free version of BarFly had a bug which sometimes caused
this, so if you still have that, remove it so you don't start it up
accidentally.
(It's a good idea to search your hard disk with Sherlock for old copies of
BarFly and remove them all to make sure you don't start up the wrong one
by accident.)

When you play a tune in BarFly, the tune which plays is the one where the
text
insertion point is located. If you move the insertion point yourself you
may find a different tune plays than the one whose music is on display. Is
that what's happening here?

Thanks for the help

The cause of my first problem was that I placed copies of BarFly rather than
aliasses in my individual file. Sherlock helped me to detect this. I had
also put the stress programs file in my macros file. I put it back in the
same file as BarFly and all is ok now.

As far as the second problem, your advice did solve it.

Thanks

In the new BarFly

Using a simple tune, I make an intentionnal mistake in a measure
When played, the smily frowns but...
When I click on it, it reverts to smile without showing where the mistake is
on a separate record, as indicated in “Bad tunes”.

I have just put up the latest version of BarFly. It's now a shareware
program, however the unregistered version does much more than the old
freeware version did, and the only disabled feature is the ability
to print multiple tunes.

New stuff includes:

* A new and unobtrusive error-checking mechanism which is permanently on.
* The ability to draw the staff notation using antialiasing for smooth
   slurs and clefs.
* Lots of minor improvements to the music symbols used.
* Printing routines completely re-written. The program can now print
high quality music, with multiple tunes per page, margin controls
   page numbering etc.
* Documentation is entirely re-written (nearly half a megabyte of it).

You can get it from the new BarFly site at:

http://www.barfly.dial.pipex.com

Have fun!

Indeed, the greatest thing would be to have BarFly also on Windows

I am a MacManiac to, however, having that great software BarFly on Windows

would help greatly to expand the use of abc notation, no?
