Re: [AI] PC IS NOT BOOTING
No, you cannot do this with the default tool in Windows XP. It will only convert Fat32 to NTFS. You will have to see if there are any free tools which do this. It was possible in Partition Magic. Re: [AI] Fw: help with a small inconvenience...
I have 3 email accounts configured in Outlook Express - Bluebottle, Gmail & Hotmail. I am facing the problem of double messages in only Hotmail. Once I finish downloading, I close Outlook Express and then restart it. The second copy in the Hotmail Inbox dissappears and only one copy remains. See if it works for you. Re: [AI] PC IS NOT BOOTING
Hello! MTFS disk with windows XP SP2 shall not come up with any error messages at all if: 1. use a windows XP bootable cd. For this, you'll have to open the bios setting and set the cd device, as the first boot device. 2. when the windows setup shows you with the option to format the disk, before installing windows XP, take the help of a clever sighted person to correctly point and click on the C drive, for formatting. 3. while formatting, mormally, all the bad secters are repaired and windows is successfully installed. If for any reason, the installation has to be qwit due to unexpected messages, then you must remove the hard drive, boot it on some other pc as this disk as a slave and check the disk. Re: [AI] PC IS NOT BOOTING
hehehehe, hello there, As per my knowledge, installing 98 and xp in a system is a tricky thing though. if you have already installed xp in your C drive, it won't accept if you are installing win98 in the same drive. Also, even if you are installing win98 in your D drive, you won't be getting booting option while you are booting your system. So, As per my knowledge, you must do a full format by removing all of your partitions before playing this tricky game. And my another advice is to install win98 in your C drive. because, then only you may be getting the option while booting. Hope, it would help. [AI] Nuance turns text into speech
Nuance turns text into speech As well as converting PDFs into audio files, ScanSoft update offers tools for disabled users and archival standards. By Candace Lombardi Staff Writer, CNET News.com Published: August 20, 2006, 9:00 PM PDT Nuance Communications' PDF software has had a makeover. The company plans to release ScanSoft PDF Converter Professional 4, a would-be competitor to Adobe Systems' Acrobat, on Tuesday. The software is designed to create and convert PDF files. The new version includes a text-to-speech feature that uses Nuance's RealSpeak technology to convert PDF documents into WAV audio files. The files, which can be used for podcasts, are read in a male voice. There are plans to provide downloads of other types of voice, said Chris Strammiello, the director of product management at Nuance, which also makes speech recognition software. The voice feature is compliant with U.S. requirements for the accessibility of documents for disabled users, Nuance said. PDF Converter Professional 4, aimed at corporate users, will be available in the United States Aug. 22 for just under $100, the company said. ScanSoft PDF Create 4 and PDF Converter desktop utilities, included in the package, will also be sold separately for $49 each. ScanSoft PDF converter The software includes a new feature that enables people to create XML Tagged PDF, which is a PDF standard that automatically includes information pertaining to the proper reading order of text, tables and graphics. The standard is used for exporting files to screen readers for the blind, and for resizing the files to fit different screen formats. In addition, the SoftScan feature that converts PDFs into Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, or Corel WordPerfect documents has been made 46 percent more accurate, Strammiello said. The feature, which maintains formatting, tables and graphics, can be used either within the PDF software or, via an option toolbar, within a document application such Microsoft Word. [AI] Dell reposes faith in lithium ion batteries
Dell reposes faith in lithium ion batteries R Raghavendra [ 21 Aug, 2006 0148hrs IST TIMES NEWS NETWORK ] BANGALORE: Dell has reiterated its faith in lithium ion batteries as well as in Sony. While Dell continues to research on newer ways to power our laptops, the company's chief technology officer has expressed satisfaction at the ongoing efforts and the entire logistics of battery replacement. "We would better have our entire logistics in place before making an announcement of this magnitude. We are receiving a tremendous response from our customers on this issue and are sure of having everything in place soon,"Kevin Kettler, CTO of Dell told The Times of India. The world's largest manufacturer of computers decided earlier this week to recall 4.1 million laptop batteries shipped between April 2004 and July 18, 2006. According to the estimates, during this period (April 2004- July 18, 2006), the company shipped 24.9 million batteries. The batteries being recalled are with the words 'DELL' and 'Made in Japan' or 'Made in China' or 'Battery cell made in Japan, assembled in China' printed on the back of the batteries. A number of blogs are writing on the issue of battery replacement and the recent incident in Japan where a Dell laptop went up in flames. Some bloggers are also questioning the more contentious issue of lithium ion as a source of power. However, Dell has been quick to address this argument with its own blog. "Beyond what you've seen in the blogosphere, there is no update on the now infamous 'flaming notebook' from Osaka. We replaced the customer's computer and are still investigating the cause,"says Dell weblog "We think it was a fault in a lithium ion battery cell. Dell's engineering teams are working with the Consumer Product Safety Commission and a third-party failure analysis lab to determine the root cause of this failure and to ensure we take all appropriate measures to help prevent a recurrence." "By the way, lithium ion batteries are used in billions of notebooks, MP3 players, PDAs and cell phones these days,"he added. Kettler adds: "Our current research on this front are mostly around advances in the lithium ion. We are also working on fuel cells or renewable energy sources." According to him, Dell's ongoing research includes ways of looking at reducing overall power requirement itself. "At a platform level, we are using software to activate certain platforms from the state of deep sleep as and when required,"Kettler said. "We are also looking at the silicon technology and the processing technologies so as to be able to reduce the overall power consumption itself,"Kettler added.
