[AI] Need your guidance/suggestions
Hello friends, Recently, I have started using Internet (MTNL Broad Band). I can spare hardly 30 minutes everyday on an average basis. During this time-frame, I go through my mails with the help of Outlook Express. I use to receive 2-3 mails other than ACCESSINDIA. But my previous Broad Band bill shows that I have used 1125 MB within a month. In my opinion, it is more than I expect. I shall be obliged to have guidance/suggestions from any of my well wisher. With warm regard. S S Pathak (M) 09868114638 To unsubscribe send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the subject unsubscribe. [AI] New PayPal Key to Thwart Phishers
New PayPal Key to Thwart Phishers Over the next few months, Ebay will be offering its PayPal users a new tool in the fight against phishers: a $5 security key. The security key is actually a small electronic device, designed to clip on to a keychain, that calculates a new numeric password every 30 seconds. PayPal users who sign up to use the device will need to enter their regular passwords as well as the number displayed on the key whenever they log in to the online payment service. "The key is really going to give users one more layer of security for their accounts," said Sara Bettencourt, a PayPal spokeswoman. PayPal a Phishing Target Because the numeric password changes so frequently, even successful phishers will end up with obsolete numeric passwords and will be unable to empty PayPal accounts. "If you fall for a phishing scam and give away your user name and password ... if you used the PayPal Security Key, a third party couldn't get to your account because they wouldn't have this dynamic digit," Bettencourt said. The Security Key could be an important tool for PayPal, whose Web site is frequently spoofed by phishers looking to steal user account information. The PayPal Security Key is being tested by PayPal employees right now, and the test will be opened up to beta users in the U.S., Germany, and Australia "in the next month or so," Bettencourt said. Later this year, the company plans to begin promoting the devices to all PayPal users. News of the new PayPal system was first reported on AuctionBytes.com . PayPal users who want this extra level of security will be able to buy the devices for $5, but this fee will be waived for PayPal business accounts. PayPal's device is based on VeriSign's One-Time Password Token product, which is also being tested by Charles Schwab and U.S. Bancorp. ETrade also uses a similar system, based on RSA Security's SecurID tokens. Over the past year, online financial companies have paid more attention to authentication technologies such as the VeriSign tokens, which add a second layer of authentication to online transactions. Adoption of these "two-factor" authentication techniques has been further boosted by new federal guidelines, which require stronger authentication for online transactions. Still, phishing attacks are becoming increasingly lucrative for criminals. Research company Gartner estimates that phishers cost U.S. financial institutions about $2.8 billion last year. The average loss per phishing attack was $1,244, up from $256 in 2005. http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,128502-pg,1/article.html Vikas Kapoor, MSN ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Skype ID: dl_vikas Mobile: (+91) 9891098137. [AI] Is Google Falsely Flagging Harmless Sites?
Is Google Falsely Flagging Harmless Sites? Is Google Falsely Flagging Harmless Sites? Web site operators say Google is mistakenly warning users that visiting some sites in search results may be dangerous. Jeremy Kirk, IDG News Service Thursday, January 11, 2007 12:00 PM PST Some Web site operators are complaining that Google is flagging their sites as containing malicious software when they believe their sites are harmless. At issue is an interstitial page that Google presents when a user clicks on a search result link to a site that Google believes contains malware. The page cautions users with the words "Warning - visiting this web site may harm your computer!" Google does not block access to the site, but a user must manually type in the Web site address to continue. Now some organizations with sites that get the warning are complaining that their sites do not contain malicious software, and that the warning is embarrassing. "We have no bad software or installs or anything that would indicate a need to ban people from viewing our site," Matt Blatchley, who works for the Greenbush Southeast Kansas Education Service Center , wrote in a posting to Google Groups . Appeals Possible, but Slow Google's interstitial warning page contains a link to StopBadware.org , a project designed to study legal and technical issues concerning spyware, adware, and other malicious software. StopBadware.org is run by Harvard Law School's Berkman Center for Internet and Society, Oxford University's Internet Institute, and vendor partners such as Google, Sun Microsystems, and Lenovo. According to an entry in StopBadware.org's question-and-answer page, Google decides whether to flag a Web site based on its own independent scans of the Internet. StopBadware.org, however, will review Google's decision if a user submits a query to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Google will remove the page if the Web site is free of malware. Organizations with Web sites that produce the Google warning have chafed at the appeals process. Complaints elicit an automated e-mail from StopBadware.org saying it will reply within ten business days. Malware From Third Parties "We understand that this may be an incredibly frustrating situation for you," StopBadware.org says. "However, we have found that Web site owners are often not aware that their sites contain or link to badware." This could occur, StopBadware.org says, if a site contains third-party advertising that has links to other Web sites with malware. Also, an organization's Web server may have been hacked, or the site itself could have been hacked through a security exploit. Organizations should work with their Web hosting provider to check for security problems, StopBadware.org says. But some site operators object to being flagged without prior warning. "They [Google] are the king of the Internet," wrote a user on behalf of Kukars Infotech , an IT services business in Rajasthan, India. "If they rank our Web site on top, then they can even humiliate us." Google officials had no immediate comment. http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,128509-pg,1/article.html Vikas Kapoor, MSN ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Skype ID: dl_vikas Mobile: (+91) 9891098137. [AI] Connecting the digital home
Connecting the digital home It has long been promised that the PC will become the entertainment hub of the home. However, the problem with this vision is that our computers tend to sit in the bedroom and means getting those movies, music and pictures the last few metres to the living room is a real pain. This year's CES - the world's largest consumer gadget show - boasts a wealth of new kit which aims to make it easier to access digital media around the home - and in particular on TV screens. Ideas on what should be at the centre of it all vary, from PC-based media centres, digital video recorders or even video game consoles. Microsoft is promoting its Xbox 360 as the place to store and access movies and songs. "Xbox 360 is at its heart, the world's best games console and we're continuing to sell it very well. But we also know that people have it connected to their TV, and that means they want to see movies," said Robert Bach of Microsoft. "So we've added a Download Movie service, we've added an HD DVD movie player to it. You want to play music, so you can take your MP3 player or Zune player, and plug it in and see your music. "Here we're announcing that you can take IPTV digital TV services and run them on top of an Xbox 360." It should be pointed out that the downloads are only available to those that have a hard drive for their Xbox 360. Sony's PS3 console does something similar. Microsoft's ambitions also include its Media Centre software which has not made the impact some had hoped for. It will now get a boost by being integrated into all but the most basic versions of Microsoft's new PC operating system - Vista. The consumer versions of Vista is scheduled for launch on 30 January. Apple is getting in on the act too. At the MacWorld show Apple boss Steve Jobs gave more details of Apple TV - the set-top box which uses iTunes to stream media to a television. Various launches at CES suggest that moving files around the house should be easy. We have more choices now than ever before - hardwire Ethernet cables, Bluetooth or wi-fi. Netgear's new Digital Entertainer set-top box is one of several here that let you stream HD pictures from your PC over wi-fi to the TV. But obstructions and interference may hamper a steady picture. Presuming we can move our digital media files around without too much problem, you then have to consider the alphabet soup which is compression formatting - or codecs - which allow all your devices to understand each other, otherwise you will not see a thing. I think it's unbelievably frustrating because you purchase the music expecting to be able to play it where you would like to play it and then you find out later that this is not quite the case. "Many of the files that people would like to buy and download, including movies and TV shows, are actually protected with what's called DRM, that is Digital Rights Management software," said Josh Bernoff an analyst from Forrester Research. "A lot of this software is incompatible with some of these devices. "So for example, if you buy a movie or TV show from iTunes it'll work fine on your iPod but it's unlikely to work on, say, your Xbox 360 that happens to be connected to the same setup." Slowly this is changing. For instance, last month if you had bought a rights-protected Windows music file it would not have played on Sonos' high-end multi-room streaming system. After a year of negotiations Sonos' hardware can now support those files. Now the boss of Sonos wants Apple to also open up, claiming it is customers who lose out. "I think it's unbelievably frustrating because you purchase the music expecting to be able to play it where you would like to play it and then you find out later that this is not quite the case," said John MacFarlane of Sonos. "That's not, generally, well explained at the point of purchase." The steady march of technology is also helping break down these barriers. For instance, a new PC to TV chip by start-up Quartics might help audio and video streaming compatibility. It allows any files your laptop can read to be streamed over wi-fi to your TV or digital projector. It is hoped the chip - which can be updated with any new video formats as they emerge - will be integrated into some TVs by the end of the year. Many companies are supporting a set of standardised formats through industry groups like the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA). And the new faster 802.11n standard for wi-fi should soon be ratified, which will help boost consumers' confidence in streaming video. But for now it might be best to take all the hype with a pinch of salt. http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/programmes/click_online/6254909.stm Vikas Kapoor, MSN ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Skype ID: dl_vikas Mobile: (+91) 9891098137. Dear Friend, I also face the same problem with Gmail and Yahoo accounts. Sometimes, one of them will give the message described by you and at other times, it will connect smoothly. I asked my Internet Service Provider and he said that the problem occurs when the Internet connection has become overloaded due to too many users accessing it simultaneously, mostly on weekends. Another probability is that the website server is becoming overloaded. As a solution, I always select the "Wait" button and the downloading of mails is completed without any problem. When I try to connect, it processes for 2 or 3 mins and then gives this message: Your pop.gmail.com account did not responded in 60 seconds, would you like to wait another 60 seconds to connect? There are also 2 buttons appear their. Wait button. Stop button. But sometimes it connects very easily. I don't have any problem with my internet connection speed . Need your kind suggestions.
