[AI] Can this work with all versions?

2008-01-30 Thread Subramani L
Folks:

I was going through Tech Tidbits and found this info curious. Since no
version is specified, is it then safe to assume that this update would
work in all versions of JAWS? Kindly throw some light on it.

4) Freedom Scientific has released the latest beta version of the MAGic
screen magnification program. They have also released an update to JAWS.
The primary
new feature in these releases allows users of both programs to receive
more accurate visual information when using the web.

Also easy CD extractor can convert audio files in to MP3 and many other
formats like MP4. More significantly the conversion is almost hundred
percent clear without loosing the sound quality. I'll look through my CD

Subject: [AI] KNFB Mobile Reader

Hi all,

I really got excited to know about it, KNFB has developed software which
can
be installed on N82 as it has 5 mega pixel camera. Although they only
say it
works with N82, I think it should also work with N95.

I have yet not tried this software, and I am not sure about it's price,
but
it's approximate price is 1500 dollars.

knfb Reading Technology, Inc. is pleased to announce the latest
breakthrough
in print accessibility. We have developed software which places the
functionality
of a reading machine into a multifunction cell phone. The Mobile Reader
products can be activated and ready to use with the touch of a single
button
on
the phone. The user takes a photo of the print to be read and the
character
recognition software in conjunction with high quality text-to-speech
will
read
the contents of the document aloud. At the same time, it can display the
print on the phone's built-in screen and highlight each word as it is
spoken.

The Mobile Reader Product Line:
. Reads most printed documents, from letters and memos to pages in a
book
. Reads address labels and package information and instructions
. Easily recognizes U.S. currency
. Displays each sentence visually and highlights each word as it is read
. Stores thousands of pages using easily obtainable flash memory
. Transfers text files to and from computers or Braille note takers
. Adjusts reading speed to suit user's preference.

In addition, with the use of a screen reader, the user can access the
other
functions of the phone device including making and receiving phone
calls,
personal
information management such as contacts, calendar, etc. Also contains
ability to run accessible GPS programs, access to Adobe PDF files, voice
recorder,
music player and much more.

Subject: [AI] KNFB Mobile Reader

Hi all,

I really got excited to know about it, KNFB has developed software which can
be installed on N82 as it has 5 mega pixel camera. Although they only say it
works with N82, I think it should also work with N95.

I have yet not tried this software, and I am not sure about it's price, but
it's approximate price is 1500 dollars.

knfb Reading Technology, Inc. is pleased to announce the latest breakthrough
in print accessibility. We have developed software which places the
functionality
of a reading machine into a multifunction cell phone. The Mobile Reader
products can be activated and ready to use with the touch of a single button
on
the phone. The user takes a photo of the print to be read and the character
recognition software in conjunction with high quality text-to-speech will
read
the contents of the document aloud. At the same time, it can display the
print on the phone's built-in screen and highlight each word as it is
spoken.

The Mobile Reader Product Line:
. Reads most printed documents, from letters and memos to pages in a book

In addition, with the use of a screen reader, the user can access the other
functions of the phone device including making and receiving phone calls,
personal
information management such as contacts, calendar, etc. Also contains
ability to run accessible GPS programs, access to Adobe PDF files, voice
recorder,
music player and much more.

wav files are always much bigger than MP3. There are options within the
program to make it a bit smaller than what you may presently have, but you
will end-up compremising the sound quality.

[AI] (Tech Dose of the day) Trojan, Continuous Data Protection, Micro-Blogging, Web Scraping and much much more!

2008-01-30 Thread vishnu ramchandani
Tech Dose of the day

Trojan, Continuous Data Protection, Micro-Blogging,
Web Scraping, etc.

Contributed by M&E (Media & Entertainment) Delivery
Group (MphasiS Software Services)

Trojan
What is a Trojan?
In the context of computing and software, a Trojan
horse, or simply trojan, is a piece of software which
appears to perform a certain action but in fact
performs another such as a computer virus. Contrary to
popular belief, this action, usually encoded in a
hidden payload, may or may not be actually malicious,
but Trojan horses are notorious today for their use in
the installation of backdoor programs. Simply put, a
Trojan horse is not a computer virus in most cases.
Unlike such badware, it does not propagate by
self-replication but relies heavily on the
exploitation of an end-user. It is instead a
categorical attribute which can encompass many
different forms of codes. Therefore, a computer worm
or virus may be a Trojan horse. The term is derived
from the classical myth of the Trojan Horse.
A simple example of a Trojan horse would be a program
named "waterfalls.scr" where its author claims it is a
free waterfall screensaver. When run, it instead
unloads hidden programs, commands, scripts, or any
number of commands with or without the user's
knowledge or consent. Malicious Trojan Horse programs
are often used to circumvent protection systems in
effect creating a vulnerable system to allow
unauthorized access to the user's computer.
Non-malicious Trojan Horse programs are used for
managing systems, deploying software, surveillance,
and forensics.
What are the types of Trojan Horse Payloads?
Trojan horse payloads are almost always designed to do
various harmful things, but can also be harmless. They
are broken down in classification based on how they
breach and damage systems.
The nine main types of Trojan horse payloads are :
1. Remote Access
2. Email Sending
3. Data Destruction
4. Downloader
5. Proxy Trojan (disguising others as the infected
computer)
6. FTP Trojan (adding or copying data from the
infected computer)
7. Security software disabler
8. Denial-of-service attack (DoS)
9. URL trojan (directing the infected computer to only
connect to the internet via an expensive dial-up
connection)
Some examples of damage are :
• erasing or overwriting data on a computer.
• encrypting files in a cryptoviral extortion attack.
• corrupting files in a subtle way.
• upload and download files.
• allowing remote access to the victim's computer.
This is called a RAT (Remote Administration Tool).
• spreading other malware, such as viruses: this type
of Trojan horse is called a 'dropper' or 'vector'.
• setting up networks of zombie computers in order to
launch DoS attacks or send spam.
• spying on the user of a computer and covertly
reporting data like browsing habits to other people.
• making screenshots.
• logging keystrokes to steal information such as
passwords and credit card numbers.
• phishing for bank or other account details, which
can be used for criminal activities.
• installing a backdoor on a computer system.
• opening and closing CD-ROM tray.
• harvesting e-mail addresses and using them for spam.
• restarting the computer whenever the infected
program is started.
• deactivating or interfering with anti-virus and
firewall programs.
• deactivating or interfering with other competing
forms of malware.
• randomly shutting off your computer.
Methods of Infection:-
The majority of Trojan horse infections occur because
the user was tricked into running an infected program.
This is why it is advised not to open unexpected
attachments on emails -- the program is often a cute
animation or an image, but behind the scenes it
infects the computer with a Trojan or worm. The
infected program doesn't have to arrive via email; it
can be sent in an Instant Message, downloaded from a
Web site or by FTP, or even delivered on a CD or
floppy disk.
Road Apple:-
A road apple is a real-world variation of a Trojan
Horse that uses physical media and relies on the
curiosity of the victim. The attacker leaves a
malware-infected floppy disc, CD ROM or USB flash
drive in a location sure to be found or that is
commonly visited, gives it a legitimate looking label
and then waits in the hopes that someone will
eventually use it. An example of this would be to get
the corporate logo from the web site of the software
that is infected and affixing a legitimate-looking
label (e.g. "Employee Salaries Summary FY06") for the
infected physical media.
Methods of Deletion:-
Since Trojan horses have a variety of forms, there is
no single method to delete them. The simplest responses
involve clearing the temporary internet files on a
computer, or finding the file and deleting it
manually. Normally, anti-virus software is able to
detect and remove the trojan automatically. If the
antivirus cannot find it, Rebooting the computer in
Safemode (with or without networking) and running an
antivirus scan may find the Rat and then the Trojan

I wear it almost eight hours a day and don't find this to be necessarily
true. However, using ear phones or head phones for so long may cause
problems to your hearing. So, I usually stuff my ears with lots of
cotton before wearing the headphone and also keep it aside for a while
if I feel uneasy. Form my personal experience I can tell you that it is
not good to use head phones for long hours. But I do it for professional
reasons.

  Released: January, 28, 2008

Guerilla Technologies is announcing the release of their Professional Model
of MobilEyes Portable OCR Plus. The Professional Model adds complete Laptop
Computer services to the already impressive list of devices encompassed in
MobilEyes Basic, released last year.

A full Intel Processor drives the Windows Based Professional Desktop
Environment, utilizing nearly 3 times the RAM memory of cell phone devices or
PDA's. Your favorite Screen Reader or Magnification Software can easily be
loaded onto MobilEyes Professional [Low Vision Users can utilize the 7"
viewable screen or project to any viewing source]. Refreshable Braille Displays
are also supported. Full sized Qwerty keys make accessing the computer
functions easy and natural. There is no need to keep track of multiple storage
media cards since MobilEyes has up to 40 times the storage capacity as mini
handhelds. However, one Compact Flash and two USB 2.0 ports are available if
needed. WI-FI, Bluetooth, and LAN connectivity are all available as well as GPS
[optional].

While MobilEyes is ready for everyday use, The Professional Model meets the
demanding needs of the student as well as the business person. See all that
MobilEyes can offer at the MobilEyes Lab, held during the ATIA Conference,
Friday, from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. Carribean Room 6.

I use the full version and I think you need to buy it in order to
disinfect. It costs Rs 1400, which includes seven of their applications
including intrusion detection and spyware identification. This is valid
for a year and updates are done free for this period.

2008-01-30 Thread Amar Jain
Respected Madam,
Just now I came to know about one thing. I contacted to the Hadley School
For The Blind regarding this matter. They said that they do not print
visiting cards specially in the standard size. But they told me about 2
options. One is to buy a handy electronic braille embosser which costs $
7500. And the other option is to contact to Ozone Publications. I have
written them and waiting for the reply. I told this thing because you are
interested in this matter. But I want to know that is there any braille
press available in India which provides us visiting cards in braille? And
would be very happy if I will come to know about any user of visiting cards
in braille. Thanks for your interest in this matter. I will be sending you
every update in this matter.
With Best Regards,
AMAR JAIN.

Dear AI members,
Anybody is there who has printed his/her visiting cards in braille? If yes
then let me know that from where I can get my cards in braille. And what is
the size of it. Because in standard business card the matter does not come
in braille. The standard card size is:
3.5 " X 2 ".
In this size we can have 4 lines in braille and 13 sells per line. I request
that if anybody is there then please contact me by phone/email. Waiting for
the reply very anxiously.
With Regards,
AMAR JAIN.
