2009-04-10 Thread Vedprakash Sharma
There is a stenography course for the visually impaired. in AICB Delhi, they
teach shorthand too with the help of braille or smaller versions of digital
recorders. if you wish to continue with the previous post, you can do it
after the training. in fact there is a provision in the disability act of
1995 that nobody can be dismissed from the post if he/she gets any kind of
disability.

Subject: [AI] High Court Stops All Recruitments in Railways Till Quota
ForThe Disabled Is Filled Up

Dear All,

I am writing to theis forum after long. But I think this in an important
news to share, so I had resubcribed to the mailing list again and hope this
time I would be able to contribute more to the group and Viz versa.

You may be aware that AICB is working for education, rehabilitation and
empowerment of the visually impairment persons. One of our salient
activities is judicial activation against discrimination of disabled
persons, particularly the visually impaired. And AICB has acieved an
important breakthrough and obtained a landmark order of Delh High Court
obtained in our ongoing case against Ministry of Railways pertaining to not
filling up of 4254 vacancies reserved for disabled persons.

I am appending the press release issued for your information.

*New Delhi, Monday, 6th April 2009:* While hearing a petition filed by All
India Confederation of the Blind relating to violation of persons with
disabilities Act by the Indian Railways, a division bench of the Delhi High
Court headed by Justice A. P. Shah (Chief Justice) sharply criticized the
railways for not adhering to the court orders of 20th January 2009 directing
it to maintain a roster with regard to appointments of disabled persons in
Railways.

Earlier, a joint report worked out by the petitioner and the respondent as
per the directions of the Delhi High Court had stated that there was a
whopping backlog to the extent of 4254 vacancies on which disabled persons
should have been appointed as per the persons with disabilities Act, but the
railways did not adhere to the provisions of this Act.

Mr. Rajan Mani, council for the petitioner, All India Confederation of the
Blind, argued that maintaining a roster was the first step towards ensuring
reservations for disabled persons. ”Clearly, the Railways is not serious
about fulfilling its statutory obligations,” he argued.

The honuorable Chief Justice observed that non compliance of court orders
amounted to contempt of the Court. He directed that Secretary Railways /
Member (staff recruitments) be present in person on Monday 13th April 2009.
The court also directed Railways to start special recruitment drive to
appoint disabled persons by utilizing at least 50% of the available
vacancies for this purpose. In a landmark order the court also directed the
railways that no recruitment will take place unless provision is made to
fill up 4254 vacancies reserved for disabled persons.

Sincerely yours

Sachu Ramalingam

Re: [AI] DNA: India: Visually impaired candidate hopes to make a difference

2009-04-10 Thread prateek aggarwal
i’m not very sure, that how many of you have gazed this news,
but if it works, a new ray of hope, a new spark of growth, a new crack
of dawn, a new memo of our potency, etc, etc will stretch in the
society.
Today, where we are struggling about our privileges and amenities, a
visually impaired candidate is one who can give rise and execution
to our hopes.
Surely, the person might be familiar from the predicaments, hurdles,
and sentiments of visually impaired community, and therefore if he
wins in election this time, indubitably it’s gonna be a great triumph
and help.
Keeping this fact in missiles, I’d like to appeal all the people who
are in the constituency of this seat from where this person is
fighting, that please cast your vote in favor of this person.
This is not an advertise, but still I appeal you to not only just cast
your own votes, but also instigate other folks around you for same.
I think, we’ve got a pleasant chance to empower our lives, so let’s
utilize it upto it’s full extent.

Visually impaired candidate hopes to make a difference

PTI

Monday, April 6, 2009 12:00 IST

Lucknow: At first look, 52-year-old Khairul Bashar would pass off as
any another candidate trying his luck in the Lok Sabha polls.

But there is something special about this candidate which makes him
different from others in the rat race.

Bashar, who is making a debut in electoral politics by contesting as
an independent from Azamgarh parliamentary constituency, is visually
challenged and
physically impaired.

"My aim to contest elections in not to win the seat.I only want to
give a message that people should raise their voice against
corruption. I am fighting
against this corrupt system," Bashar said.

Bashar, who runs a grocery store in Amilo village of Azamgarh
district, said though he cannot see from his eyes, he can feel that
the situation in the country
is not very good.

"I cannot see from my eyes, I see the world from my heart and can feel
the pain of the people. Politicians do nothing for the poor and needy.
They are more
concerned about their own welfare," he alleged.

Bhashar, who lost his vision at the age of six after a bout of chicken
pox, said "politicians have so far had done nothing for the
development of the area.
Given a chance I want to work for the development of the area, this is
my single point manifesto".

Bashra has got support from Mritak Sangh, an organisation which works
for people, who despite being alive have been declared dead by their
family members
and relatives.

"I was very impressed with Bashar's tirade against corruption. Aaj kal
jab aankh wale andhe ho rahe hai, to ek andha aankh wala ho raha hai
(in these times
when those who can see are turning blind deliberately, a visually
impaired person has got the vision," said Lal Bihari, who runs the
Mritak Sangh.

He said that in present times, when politicians swtich loyality in
seconds, Bashar was setting an example before the people.

"At least a blind man has the courage to stand up and raise his voice.
This is very important when Bashar has nothing to do with politics and
he is not
a politician," he added.

Bashar, meanwhile, said that given a chance he would certainly raise
the voice of his people in Parliament.

"If people find me good enough, they will certainly support me," said
the man, who has `Andha Kanoon, Andha Umeedwar, Brastachar par hoga
war' (blind law,
blind candidate, corruption will be tackled) as his slogan.

[AI] Forum discusses issues of people with disabilities!

2009-04-10 Thread Saravanan Ramadoss

Subject: Forum discusses issues of people with disabilities

It was aimed at creating awareness about schemes

COIMBATORE: Human Rights Law Network (HRLN), a nationwide association of
lawyers and social activists dedicated to using the legal systems to advance
human rights, in collaboration with CBM, an organisation that works for the
disabled, recently organised a two-day training programme on 'disability
rights and the law.'

The forum discussed current issues pertaining to disability rights and
framing legal mechanisms to address various human rights violations.

More than 50 people with disabilities from all over Tamil Nadu attended the
workshop. Rajive Rathori, Deputy Director, HRLN, New Delhi, inaugurated the
programme.

Rights

The speakers from HRLN discussed the Constitution with reference to the
status of rights of persons with disabilities, the Disability Act 1995,
Right to Information Act, the National Trust Act for Welfare of Persons with
Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities Act
1999.

Media

Domestic violence, sexual harassment at the workplace, HIV/AIDS and
disability were other issues that needed immediate attention by the
government and the media.

The aim of the programme was to create awareness among people with
disabilities about their rights and the welfare schemes implemented by the
Government.

It was held at the Karl Kubel Institute for Development Education,
Coimbatore.

UDIS Forum co-ordinated the event.

ARVIC, an organisation working for people with visual impairment, Deaf
Leaders, an organisation for people with hearing impairment, Caliber Trust,
another organisation working for people with disabilities and CRCS, an non-
Governmental organisation, participated in the programme.
