Re: [AI] HTML::Centering an image, removing underline from links and important information for document?

2009-07-06 Thread mukesh jain
dear amar,
The very first thing we write in our html document is the Document
type, The element used to tell the browser which HTML or
XHTML specification we are using.

There are 3 Document Type Definition (DTD)
1. Strict DTD
2. Transitional DTD
3. Frameset DTD

If we follow strict coding and keep presentational stuff in CSS fiel
then we will use Strict DTC

If we use presentational things in our html file then we use Transitional DTD
If we use frame in the document then we specify Frameset DTD in

You don’t need to worry too much in understanding what all these DTD
are, just add the following line in each of your html document, just
before the element

http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd";>

Her we state html document follows the XHTML 1.0 Transitional English
document type definition and we give the URL (the web site where this
dtd exist). Also notice that this element has no ending / closing
element.
Remember that w3.org is World Wide Web Consortium that defines the
standards for the world wide web (www).

You can just copy and paste the following line but be careful about
the quotes marks.

http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd";>

You can paste your code at w3.org validator and that will tell you if
your codes are all right or have some errors. Then you can fix the
error and check again. You can also give your web site address or your
local html file to validator to check and report you.

Following is the link for HTML validtor
http://validator.w3.org/

and here is the link for CSS validator
http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/

there are three option,
Validate by URI,
Validate by file upload,
Validate by direct input

You can use any you prefer.
If you know, We can use style sheet in 3 ways,
1. embedded – embed it in our document
2. inline style – use style directly inside the element
3. linked – link a style sheet with our document
so I assume that you are using the third one.
About your query regarding centring the text, you can code the
following in your css file: since you have not specified about the
element you want to ctentre I am giving you one example of making your
heading centred:
H1{
color:yellow;
Background-color:black;
Text-align: center;
margin: auto;
}
about your problem in underlining the text, I would advise you to
check your css file and it’s property and their values.
Hope it helps you.
Thanks,
With regards,
Mukesh jain.

Hello,

Just go to the site
www.sendspace.com
and activate on the uploak link. Fill in the form fields and activate the
upload button. During upload you cannot activate any other link or the like
on that page. Allow the upload to complete and a fresh page with the new
link will come up automatically. Better fill in your email address in the
field given.

By the bye, Shakespeare did not write novels, he wrote plays and poems. You
must have slipped it.

Dear All,
I was viewing this budget and copying this relevant claus for your reference.
88. With a view to providing interim relief to small and marginal
taxpayers and senior citizens, I propose to increase the personal income tax
exemption limit by Rs.15,000 from Rs.2.25 lakh to Rs.2.40 lakh for senior
citizens. Similarly I also propose to raise the exemption limit by Rs.10,000
from Rs.1.80 lakh to Rs.1.90 lakh for women tax payers and by Rs.10,000 from
Rs.1.50 lakh to Rs.1.60 lakh for all other categories of individual taxpayers.
Further, I also propose to increase the deduction under section 80-DD in
respect of maintenance, including medical treatment, of a dependent who is a
person with severe disability to Rs.1 lakh from the present limit of Rs.75,000.

Expert on AI plese comment, is this applicable for us? I mean now we will get
tax exemption of Rs. 1lac ?
Thanks and please advise

Some of the cub reporters sent to cover events like this forget the
basic thing about collecting information --cross checking. Insteady of
cross checking this with other sources, they simply reprint what they
find in the brochures without any scruples and what you read is the
result of that. So long as the story reads fine, who cares? Or that is
the attitude in the "modern age media".

Some of the information given in the article is distorted. The article
mentions that Snehedeep was started in 1999, and has helped hundreds of
people so far. However, this is a fledgling organization started barely

Hi,
My understanding if I read the clauses below I do not believe if the
income tax limit for us as in the visually impaired persons has been
raised as we get such an exemption under 80 U of the income tax act.

Experts on the list please comment if now our tax limit will be RS

[AI] Laser Cure For Blindness Tested

2009-07-06 Thread shahnaz

BBC NEWS
Laser 'cure' for blindness tested
A ground-breaking laser treatment could prevent
millions of older people from going
blind, experts believe.
The technique helps reverse the effects of
age-related macular degeneration - the
leading cause of blindness in over 60s in the western world.
Developed by pioneering eye expert Professor John
Marshall of King's College London,
the laser returns the back of the eye to its youthful state.
Improvements to sight were reported in early proof of concept trials.
AMD affects more than 200,000 people in the UK and attacks the central vision.

This is potentially a huge breakthrough for millions of people across the world

Tom Pey of Guide Dogs for the Blind
It develops when a membrane at the back of the
eye becomes clogged with natural waste
materials produced by the light-sensitive cells, which clouds vision.
In youthful eyes, enzymes clear away the debris,
but as the ageing process sets in
this system can fail.
The painless "short pulse" laser works by
boosting the release of the enzymes to
clean away the waste without damaging the cells that enable us to see.
Prevention
Early tests proved promising in around 50 people
with diabetic eye disease - chosen
as a model because the problems develop faster than in AMD.

What this laser is doing is trying to treat the
underlying ageing process, as it
were, reset the clock so that you don't have the manifestations of visual loss

Professor Marshall
Professor Marshall now plans more studies in
patients already suffering from AMD
in one eye with the aim of saving the sight in
their better eye for as long as possible.
He said once people have advanced AMD in one eye,
studies show the condition usually
develops in the second eye in 18 months to three years.
"If you can delay the onset by three, four, six,
seven or 10 years, it's proof of
the principle," he said.
"What this laser is doing is trying to treat the
underlying ageing process, as it
were, reset the clock so that you don't have the
manifestations of visual loss."
He said the aim was to prevent damage and
preserve their sight for the rest of their
lives.
Professor Marshall said he hoped the treatment
would be available within two to five
years and one day people in their 40s who have a
family history of AMD could choose
to have the treatment as a way of preventing the onset of the condition.
Tom Pey, director of external affairs for Guide
Dogs for the Blind, which funded
the research, said: "This is potentially a huge
breakthrough for millions of people
across the world."
A spokeswoman for the Macular Disease Society
said: "If it is shown to work it is
an extremely exciting development and potentially a real breakthrough.
"It will not sadly be useful in those who have
already lost their sight to AMD, but
it may have great hope for the future."
There is currently no treatment for the most
common form of AMD - known as "dry"
AMD - which the new laser technique could prevent.
The more aggressive "wet" form of AMD - where new
blood vessels cause bleeding and
scarring behind the retina - can be stabilised with drugs.

Re: [AI] Disability Tax incentives

2009-07-06 Thread pamnani
No this budget will not directly benefit us. Will study it in detail
tomorrow.
Let me explain 80DD.

If you were looking after a disabled child or any other person who was
disabled and who did not have taxable income then you would get the benefit
of 80DD.
80U benefits us directly and there does not seem to be a change in this
Budget.

Since most of us are independent earners we can take the benefit of 80U .
If we are dependant on someone else then that person can get the benefit of
80DD.
Other benefits to general tax payers will also benefit us.

There are certain provisions dealing with Trusts that may come in handy for
the NGO's on our list.

Hi,
My understanding if I read the clauses below I do not believe if the
income tax limit for us as in the visually impaired persons has been
raised as we get such an exemption under 80 U of the income tax act.

Experts on the list please comment if now our tax limit will be RS
235000 for the financial year 2009-2010.

Dear All,
I was viewing this budget and copying this relevant claus for your
reference.
88. With a view to providing interim relief to small and marginal
taxpayers and senior citizens, I propose to increase the personal income
tax exemption limit by Rs.15,000 from Rs.2.25 lakh to Rs.2.40 lakh for
senior citizens. Similarly I also propose to raise the exemption limit
by Rs.10,000 from Rs.1.80 lakh to Rs.1.90 lakh for women tax payers and
by Rs..10,000 from Rs.1.50 lakh to Rs.1.60 lakh for all other categories
of individual taxpayers. Further, I also propose to increase the
deduction under section 80-DD in respect of maintenance, including
medical treatment, of a dependent who is a person with severe disability
to Rs.1 lakh from the present limit of Rs.75,000.

Expert on AI plese comment, is this applicable for us? I mean now we
will get tax exemption of Rs. 1lac ? Thanks and please advise Asif

Hope it will help.

[AI] Attitude of a few NGOs working in the field of people with disabilities

2009-07-06 Thread Srinivasu
Hi all,

As we know there are plenty of organizations working for people with
disabilities but I off late found, most of them do not have right attitude
for people with disabilities. Before sensitize the world, it's important
that our organizations should have better sensitization. Recently, I went to
see someone at a very well known NGO in Bangalore and the way the security
person spoke to me is rather annoying. Of course, since I know the people
inside I manage to deal with him in a better way. But I'm really sorry that
such attitude need to be changed. There would be lots of clients come from
different sectors and some of them will come with lots of hopes for their
rehabilitation. But such reception will lead them to panic and impact more
on their disability.

I'm sorry but in my view, no organization is doing any favor to people with
disabilities - they are all equally paid well for their services by
respective organizations and all of them are either received good grant from
Government and in the form of public donations. Hence, they need to feel
really responsible and better to be careful while dealing with candidates.

I'm writing this here to see if we can collectively do something to bring
change on this. Sorry, if it falls under off-topic by any chance.

Srinivasu

Yes, Srinavasu, I do agree that the attitude of NGOs is far from satisfactory.
Once they receive government grants, their approach is no better than
government beauracracy.
If they have no grants, they are after raising funds only.

Hi accessindians,
today my query is about different types of links found on the web pages. please
tell me about the following-
1. link on mouse over.
2. most of the links can be activated by pressing enter, but some links don't
activate by the same process. what should be done to get them activated?
thanking you in anticipation.
