Re: [AI] Need your assistance

2009-11-13 Thread Subramani L
I feel no one could connect the mental capabilities with the physical
possibilities. In Bangalore, for instance, there are about 750 traffic
accidents a year, many of them are fatal. The fact is, all of them are
involving persons with fantastic sight and none of them involve either
low vision or blind. Of course people immediately point out none of the
blind persons or low vision persons drive, but my question is why should
persons with good eye sight should die in traffic accidents? The fact
here is not about sight, but about seeing. People who can physically see
need not have the mental agility to observe and react, while persons who
cannot see take precautions to observe and react even though they cannot
see. This suggests not having vision makes a person more careful and
sensitive to the environment than the others. So physical possibility of
being observant, careful and focused are natural traights that come with
blindness. This is what many figure out as intelligence, but without
connecting them. As a result, while they believe we are intelligent,
they cannot think this would directly impact the way we live.

Also, this is an example of how certain ideas are so strongly ingrained
in people that it is harder to change. Most people are made to think and
believe that a person who ccan't see needs help, is usually dumb (about
his environment and surrounding), physically indefensible and has to be
cared for and pitied over. This, as people grow up, becomes part of
their thought process and shows up each time they deal with a blind
person.

on one hand no one disputes the level of intelligence of a VI person,
but cannot consider that to be an asset at work.
I think it is high time we discuss why it is so.

That sounds general. When you say attitude, it could be social and
family attitudes. While in most cases the attitude of society towards
persons with vision challenge is condescending, patronising and
downright contempt (in certain circumstances). It is also ambiguous as
on one hand no one disputes the level of intelligene of a VI person, but
cannot consider that to be an asset at work.

It is nothing but a USB drive you get with JAWS packet to authorise the
JAWS software. The advantage is you can have JAWS authorised in any

 Hai Amar:

I use dongle for JFW 10 which is quite easy. I don't think you need
to
password protect it, since we don't know if that would affect the
way
 we
use it. There is no possibility of misuse if you safeguard your
dongle

 Listers,
Thankful to all for your valuable guidance time to time.
I have yesterday purchased Jaws 11 dongle.
I am in need of your guidance in keeping my dongle safe.
Firstly, can we password protect our dongle? To prevent unauthorize
 use?
Secondly, concerning the safety of dongle, what extra you can
suggest
 me?
Lastly, if I go to public computer today and use my dongle, then
 before
signing off, what file I need to remove so that my complete dongle
 information will get removed?
I know uninstalling from device manager can rempove it, but it does
 not
remove all information because when you plug in again, you need not
to
 follow hardware wizard.
Please cover other points also which comes in your mind.

[AI] When MBAs aspire to become clerks

2009-11-13 Thread Geetha Shamanna
Members of the list appearing for bank exams may have noticed how
competitive they have become. This article illustrates why. It also talks
about the unemployability of a good many of the graduates that our
educational system produces.

Geetha
When MBAs aspire to become clerks

November 12, 2009 11:19 IST
There are 300 applicants for each clerical post at SBI [ Get Quote ], mostly
engineers/MBAs, for a job that just requires a Class 12 qualification, says
Shyamal Majumdar.
The server of State Bank of India (SBI) crashed last year when two million
candidates applied for 20,000 clerical posts. The written examination had to
be conducted over four shifts as the bank just could not find enough venues
where the tests could be held.
A year on, the country's largest bank faces an even bigger dilemma. It has
11,000 clerical posts on offer, but has received 3.4 million applications.
That's about 300 applications for every vacancy.
SBI is conducting the entrance test on three Sundays, in two sessions
(morning and afternoon) across 83 centres. The exercise is estimated to cost
at least Rs 65 crore (Rs 650 million), which will be taken care of by the
money obtained from application fee. SBI needs the clerks for its ambitious
branch expansion programme.
The bank can afford the luxury of being extremely choosy - a vast majority
of the candidates who have applied for the Rs 8,000-a-month job are
engineering graduates and MBAs, even though the job specified only Class 12
as minimum qualification criterion.
It's not that there aren't enough suitable jobs for good-quality engineers
and MBAs. There are countless stories of how leading Indian companies are
visiting engineering and MBA colleges in interior parts of the country to
add to their basket of employable graduates but are returning empty-handed.
The main problem is that of employability. Studies have indicated that only
one in four graduates from India's colleges is employable. A Nasscom study
found that India still produces plenty of engineers - 400,000 a year. But
most are deficient in the required technical skills, fluency in English or
ability to work in a team and deliver basic oral presentations.
As a result, those engineers or MBAs who manage to become SBI clerks may
still consider themselves lucky. Listen to what Sandip Mukherjee (name
changed) - he is an engineering graduate from one of the middle-rung private
institutes in Kolkata [ Images ] - has to say.
He came to Navi Mumbai [ Images ] to join a windmill company which has its
headquarters in Europe. The quality of the job, however, he says, was only
slightly better than that of a security guard. Mukherjee, who was lucky
enough to find another job within four months, says his ex-boss had asked
him to prepare a project report on the security system in the company's
godowns.
Apparently, the company suspected that a lot of pilferage was taking place
in one of its godowns. The engineer was asked to station himself in the
security office to figure out the lacunae in the system.
One of his observations was that some people left the godown unchecked
during lunch hour when the security guard would go to the canteen to bring
food. Impressed with this finding, the boss then asked him to find out
whether this was happening during tea break or at dinner time also, or
whether the security guards went to the toilet often, leaving the gate
unmanned. I didn't pursue engineering to observe people's tea and toilet
habits, Mukherjee wrote in his resignation letter.
Companies say this mismatch between qualification and quality of job is
inevitable in a country where everybody and his uncle is either an engineer
or an MBA. The quality of teaching in most of the second-rung institutes is
poor and companies often have to pay through the nose to train them.
Indian Institute of Technology alumni have repeatedly expressed serious
concern over the mushrooming of engineering colleges that are being run as
business ventures by contractors, builders, coal dealers, brick-kiln
owners and sweetmeat sellers.

In Uttar Pradesh [ Images ] alone, 250 such engineering colleges have come
up in the last decade with an intake of about 60,000 students.
Two years ago, an assessment of the country's higher education system by the
University Grants Commission (UGC) found that as many as 25 per cent faculty
positions in universities remained vacant; 57 per cent teachers in colleges
did not have either an M Phil or PhD; and there was only one computer for
229 students, on an average, in colleges.
The assessment was conducted on 123 universities and 2,956 colleges across
India - an estimated 60 per cent of these institutions were private, the
rest government-run.
Now, look at a couple of rungs further down in the job market pyramid.
India's vocational training institutes produce six million students every
year. That's a minuscule number considering that an estimated 88.5 million
people in the

Re: [AI] How to get back a permanent deleted mail?

2009-11-13 Thread Adhimoolam Vetrivel Murugan
If you deleted the message via outlook express or windows mail, then
it is possible that your message could have reached trash and you
could simply perform a search and recover the deleted message. However
if you have deleted from the trash, then I am afraid that the message
is lost for ever. In any case if I were you, I would just perform a
mail search to see if the message could be some how found.

[AI] BitLocker To Go Encrypts Portable Flash Drives in Windows 7

2009-11-13 Thread srikanth kanuri
BitLocker To Go Encrypts Portable Flash Drives in Windows 7

The BitLocker feature was introduced in Windows Vista and allowed you
to encrypt the content of your hard drive.  Now in Windows 7 they
offer BitLocker
To Go which allows you to encrypt portable USB flash drives.

First open up My Computer and Right-click on the flash drive you want
to encrypt and select Turn on BitLocker.
After BitLocker initialized the flash drive you will need to enter in
a password to unlock the drive.  You can also set up a Smartcard which
are usually
used in a work environment so talk to you IT staff.
Next you will be prompted to store the recovery key which is used in
the event you lose your password or smartcard.  If you store it as a
file make sure
that it is not on the same drive that you’re encrypting.
After the key has been saved as a file or printed you will see a
confirmation message.

Finally you will be ready to start encrypting the drive so just click
the Start Encrypting button.

While it is encrypting there will be a progress screen displayed.

A successful encryption of the USB flash drive. notice that the drive
icon will change to show its encrypted with BitLocker.

Notice that the drive icon will change to show its encrypted with
BitLocker where the gold lock indicates it is locked up and the gray
lock is displayed
after you have unlocked it.

unlock

Right-click on that icon to bring up options to manage BitLocker encryption.

The next time you plug in the drive to a Windows 7 machine you will be
prompted to enter the password to gain access to the drive.  You can
also always
have it unlocked on specific machines in the future.

You can also use the encrypted drive in Vista and XP.  Here we will
look at how it looks in XP, when you plug it in you will be prompted
for the password
to launch BitLocker To Go Reader (the utility is installed
automatically on the drive by Windows 7).

bitlocker XP

BitLocker To Go Reader is a Windows Explorer type navigation utility
for showing the content of the drive.

bitlocker reading

With a BitLocker encrypted drive you will only be able to read and
copy files.  If you need to add files or change them you will need to
use a Windows 7
machine.

This is a great way to easily make sure sensitive data on your USB
flash drive is safe.  Right now anyone who has Windows 7 RC1 Ultimate
can use this feature.

Regards...
Srikanth

[AI] Change the Windows 7 or Vista Power Buttons to Shut Down/Sleep/Hibernate

2009-11-13 Thread srikanth kanuri
Change the Windows 7 or Vista Power Buttons to Shut Down/Sleep/Hibernate

The default action for the Power button on the start menu in Windows 7
is shutdown, and in Vista is Sleep, which isn’t necessarily useful for
everybody,
so we’ll explain how to change it here.

Change Windows 7 Shutdown Button

Windows 7 makes it really easy – just head into the Start Menu /
Taskbar preferences by right-clicking on the start menu and choosing
Properties.

All you need to do is change the drop-down for Power Button Action to
whatever you would prefer.

Change Windows Vista Power Buttons
You can configure this setting easily by using the advanced power
settings panel, which is a little tricky to get to normally, but we’ll
take the shortcut.

Open a command prompt (type cmd into the start menu search bar), and
then type in the following:

block quote
powercfg.cpl,1

block quote end

You could also take the long route (Control Panel \ Power Options \
Change Plan Settings \ Change Advanced Power Settings)

Once you get to this dialog, browse down as shown to “Power buttons and lid”

From here, you can change the options:

• Power button action – Changes the hardware power button action
• Start menu power button – Changes the power button on the Start Menu

You can change the power button to either Sleep, Hibernate or Shut
Down, or even nothing for the hardware power button.
