[AI] FW: [Talks] Nuance Talks v5 Release Notes
-- original message -- Subject:[Talks] Nuance Talks v5 Release Notes From: "Neil Barnfather - TalkNav" Date: 01-04-2010 3:02 am Dear All, As per my earlier message, please see below for the plain text version of the release notes for talks v5: TALKS&ZOOMS Version 5.00 - Release Notification (Draft) 1. Introduction We proudly announce the release of the Nuance Accessibility Suite - Nuance TALKS and ZOOMS - Version 5.00 supporting Series 60 3rd Edition / 5th Edition for March 31st, 2010. This release uses the same version of Eloquence as the previous one (6.1.123). The TTS installation files for Eloquence have only been updated to mark them as supporting 5th Edition, and the user dictionary for US English has been extended. RealSpeak Mobile is no longer included in this release, as there are some compatibility issues with the built-in TTS software on several recent phone models. Instead, the release now also includes a choice of male Vocalizer voices for English (US and UK), German and French. Please note that the ZOOMS functionality is not yet available on 5th Edition phones. Version 5.00 is a free upgrade for all Premium Edition licenses generated after November 13th, 2007. In particular, this means that it can be installed by any customer who is currently able to run version 4.11 without requiring a new license. 2. The new handsets 2.1.Changes to the list of supported phone models The following handsets are newly supported (please see section 4 "Known Issues" about some limitations): . Nokia 5630 XpressMusic . Nokia 5800 XpressMusic . Nokia E72 . Nokia N97 . Nokia N97mini . Nokia X6 We also assume the following phones to work without major problems. However we have not got enough test results yet to definitely confirm this: . Nokia 5230 Xpress Music . Nokia 5235 Xpress Music . Nokia 5530 Xpress Music . Nokia 6700 slide (but not 6700 classic!) See section 6 for a full list of compatible handsets for this version. 3. What's New? This section lists the improvements of TALKS 5.00 compared to the previous version (4.11). 3.1.Support for 5th Edition, including touch screens The most important new feature of TALKS 5.00 is its support for Series 60 5th Edition phones using touch screens. It can be used both on phones that combine touch with a physical keyboard (e.g. the Nokia N97), as well as touch-only phones (such as the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music). Overall, TALKS aims to preserve the experience of the sighted user when working with a touch screen as much as possible, so that a phone can easily be shared, and support effort is kept low There are two main additions to the standard Symbian user interface to make touch screens accessible to blind and partially sighted users: . "Explore Mode", which allows identifying features on the screen through touch without clicking them . Support for single-handed operation of the phone using the side keys, allowing menus and lists to be operated reliably without using the touch screen "Explore Mode" is automatically entered when the finger is held on the touch screen for more than about half a second without moving. As long as the finger is kept on the display afterwards, it can be moved around, and TALKS announces the names of objects as they are touched. If the finger is then lifted, followed by a brief tap anywhere on the screen (within about 1.5 seconds), the object that was under the finger when it was lifted is then clicked. At the same time, if the finger is moved quickly across the display, or used for a brief tap, without waiting for Explore Mode to be activated first, TALKS does not interfere, and the phone works as it would without TALKS. This means that "gestures", such as flicking across a list to perform "kinetic scrolling", can still be used as designed by the phone manufacturer. The only exception to this principle is the web browser, where TALKS overlays the web page with an invisible "virtual keyboard" that can be used to browse various elements of the page, e.g. between headings or between links (similar to the approach used under 3rd Edition), rather than relying on direct exploration of a web page's contents. In addition, TALKS redefines the side keys on 5th Edition phones (normally used only to control volume) to allow navigation through lists and menus without using the touch screen. In addition, pressing and holding the "Down" key selects the currently focused element, while pressing and holding the "Up" key accesses different areas of the screen, such as the list of tab sheets or soft keys. After pressing the [Talks] key (which continues to be the [Menu] key on 5th Edition phones by default) an invisible virtual keyboard on the screen can be "explored" for access to most screen reader functions that are available through numeric keys on non-touch screens. [Talks],[Key lock] / [Talks],[long Key lock] can be used for mu

After pressing the [Talks] key (which continues to be the [Menu] key on 5th Edition phones by default) an invisible virtual keyboard on the

Re: [AI] Java Virtual Machine for windows 7 64 bit os?
hi, Just try one more thing. Try running your software in compatibility mode. What it means is that Win 7 uses the settings of XP (32 bit) to run that software. This step is useful for some applications which have not been updated for 64 bit machines. This you can do by right clicking on that software and selecting "troubleshoot compatibility" or something alike. Also, you can try uninstalling that software and then reinstalling it using the same step as given above. If this doesn't work, then there is another work around for the same i.e. by installing XP virtual machine which is an extended feature of Win 7 professional and above, but it is a bit time consuming. I hope that the first step should solve your problem, but if it doesn't then don't worry, we will find some way out. Re: [AI] nokia n79 and 5320 users, pleas respond!
Hi, I am a Nokia N79 user. It runs with Talks 4.113 Premium. The combination is quite good with a few exceptions listed below: 1. Talks doesn't speak in the Photos application (it did on my Nokia N95 handset). 2. It doesn't indicate the current selection - FM Radio or Internet Radio, in the Radio application. Though you can determine the selection as the default is FM Radio and pressing DOWN navigation key takes you to Internet Radio. 3. Upon unlocking the keypad, sometimes Talks doesn't indicate if there are missed calls or new messages, in spite of on-screen display. You can find out if there are missed calls or unread messages in inbox by pressing TALKS+KEY 2. The handset runs at a normal speed. The camera is 5mpx and produces good quality photos. There is 80 MB phone memory and 4 GB (expandable 8 or 16 GB, not sure) flash memory. The speakers are very good, though not too loud while the sound quality on headset is both very good and loud. It also has an inbuilt Message Reader that reads messages in inbox using Nokia TTS. You may check the keypad if the keys are distinctive to your fingers. It has a TV Out facility so you can attach it to your TV set (you need to buy the TV out cable seperately as it doesn't come with the handset). The Audio/Video output on TV is good and may be helpful to partially sighted. I have experienced phone hanging very few times in the past 2 and a half months of usage. Two issues with Talks that we can expect to be fixed in future versions: 1. It doesn't read content in Acrobat Reader. 2. FM radio stops when Talks speaks. Best Regards, Zujar... Re: [AI] netbooks
I completely agree. I have been using netbook for the year or so with the solid space and It finally relieved me from carrying a big stone on my sholder. And I used to feel bad that Apple users had such a lite notebook to carry. Netbook finally became as an alternative. Moreover, a higher processer carries so many elements which are hardly useful to ordinary users and I am sure that most visually challenged users can function very effectively with some necessary basic configurations and netbooks mostly do fulfill them. [AI] Guidance required for Video recording and music editing.
Dear All, Just saw on colors tv that some show named as india's got talent season 2 is coming, and they show all types of talents. While looking at the application form, I found that they have got a box for providing URL of youtube video if any. So, just thought of recording one video of mine. So that I can send them also and I will have an experience of recording such videos on computer. And frankly, if they do see the video then they can decide their itself that how to call me if they want to call me means I will not need to go through the lengthy process of audition and heavy rush I hope! No craze and no big deal if we come on tv since I know the whole process. So if and only if recording video on computer is easy and simple and less time consuming, I would do it. But I know nothing means nothing about it. I have got web camera on my laptop, and I will record song with karaoke. I already have arc web soft companion software for my web camera which comes pre-installed with sony vaio. But it is not at all accessible. And my sound card support that system by which we can record any song while any other file is playing. Because when I was setting properties of goldwave, it gave some check box like "allow playback of another file while recording or something". Don't know what it is called exactly. But sometimes ago when I was on xp I red that newer soundcards support this system. My internal microphone is very sensitive but there is slight gap between what we speak and we hear the same. So I am thinking of recording with external microphone. My sound card is of RealTech hp. I don't think that for suggesting you will need any other information, but if you need then tell me in detail on fetching the same info because beyond this even I don't know. I guess recording video at my own will make me learn many things about this field. But this is impossible without your guidance. So experts, please guide me on or off the list. Sorry for big mail but hope covered all which anyone should know for suggesting anything. Regards Amar Jain. Re: [AI] netbooks
I am myself using a netbook for past one year. I use computer alost 14 hours every day. There is hardly any thing that I notticed in this any thing like compromise. The screen is small (hardly matters for us). Besides, these have a huge advantage over ormal notebooks: Weight: just 1.2 KG Battery backup Just in 6 sell battery, companies have models with 8 to 12 hours of battery backup. These are huge benefits related to any compromise that may appear which I could not find in my one year of extensive use of this netbook. [AI] Retina India Karnataka monthly networking/support group meeting for April
Dear All: Retina India Karnataka will have its fourth networking meeting on April 3, 2010 Saturday. The topic of discussion will be around children with low vision and visual impairment. The children are often left out of the mainstream system or find it extremely harder to find themselves accommodated in the schooling system. The nature of their disability is such that it will be impossible to send them to special schools. This meeting would examine the problem and come out with a document that would provide a guideline for parents on what to do when schools are hostile to their child and how to plan the education for the child. We do not have a facilitator this time around, but would like to brainstorm the subject and reate this document. Parents with school/college going children, school administrators, teachers and educators are invited to provide their valuable suggestions and ccontribute to our initiative. Details of the meeting is given below: Venue: Centre for Internet and Society No. D2, 3rd Floor, Sheriff Chambers, 14, Cunningham Road, Bangalore - 560052 Time: 2 pmm to 5 pm, Saturday April 3. For instance, you have more than 160 GB hard disk space, which is certainly better than the PC I had purchased five years ago which has just 40 gb. Besides, I have pretty much everything I have on the PC, though we need to revalue if netbook is still a viable option in the post 3G era. I found it quite enlightening as at the time, I was considering purchasing a netbook and decided against it partly due to the information in this program. Although my phone is certainly not the latest and greatest, (they become obsolete the day you buy them), anyone considering a netbook could also look at a high-end cell phone that would give even more portability and depending on what you need, just as much functionality.
