Hi Mukesh,

I've taken a LIC policy without any problems and without any additional
premium.

I've clearly mentioned that I'm visually handicapped and submitted my
disability certificate along with the application.

So, there is no provision which debars a blind person from taking a LIC
policy.

One of our friends on the list, Mr. Amilesh Kumar, who is working as
an administrative officer in LIC will be able to help us with the
exact details.

I am raising these queries because recently I have been facing

Few days back, I have applied ffor one policy through LIC called

eye check up as they informed that they are not authorized to give the

have immediately applied for refund of my proposal amount to lic and
took back the said amount from lic. While taking the refunds, I got to

persons with disability especially to blind persons are of critical
nature hence, it takes lot of ttime. As per my agency information on
the other hand, my papers are not yet submitted to branch for putting

We all face difficulties in accessing various elecgronic products such as

This policy is up on the web site for public review till May 25th. Please
have a look at this policy and provide your feedback. The URL for this
policy document is:

Dear Srinivasu

I would suggest asp or dot net asp

Python is good, however it is indentation sensitive.
This could be an irritant for the beginner who could easily get zapped with
otherwise the code being correct.

With ASP and dot net ASP there is no overhead. You can make your PC as a
webserver to practise to your hearts content. All you need is the modest
notepad to write your code which is bundled with the OS anyways.

It is easy to learn and you become proficient in programming on the web
based platform.

suggest that we use NVDA as screen reader as it is free and open

Also, I may agree with someone and let's start with Python so that we

ASP .Net looks good from employment perspective. You can build ASP .Net web
sites using Visual Studio, the Integrated Development Environment. Java is
also a good candidate for that matter. But for beginners, I feel C++ would
be of great help. It helps understand OOPS concepts quite well. Maybe people
willing to learn can give more thought to this.

Friends,

Greetings!

Its great that the MSJE has announced for a new law. But we need clarity on the
following:

1. One New Law instead of 4 Laws.
2. The profile of the members on the committee for new law announced and
whether the constitution of the committee will reflect the concept of cross
disability and will upheld the principle of UNCRPD in letter and spirit.

The sector need to work on :

1. Lobby with MSJE for more clarity and public notification on the proposed New
Law and its processes.
2.Lobby to get in our choice of representatives in case if we find the
committee to be under / un represented.

Lets join hands and work towards "optimum utilisation of the opportunity"

Thanks and Regards
Meenakshi.B

Re: [AI] Courses in programming

2010-05-08 Thread Srinivasu Chakravarthula
Although, it will be problem of understanding for some, I really
suggest that we use NVDA as screen reader as it is free and open
source and easy to procure when someone seeks employment.

Also, I may agree with someone and let's start with Python so that we
can also contribute to NVDA,

[AI] Railway protest blog

2010-05-08 Thread V. Jayakumar
Hi Srinivas,

This blog was started by the civil society consortium, Disability Rights
Alliance (Tamil Nadu). Idea was to pool in resources/experiences/inputs in
the neverending saga of Indian Railways accessibility.

It's not associated with Government in any way!

Hope that clarifies things

Vaishnavi

P.S. Just realised you're Sriniworld of Twitter ;-)

Re: [AI] Facebook with Jaws! an amazing guide

2010-05-08 Thread Sandeep Singh

Thank you, boss. This is really useful. So nice of you to paste it here.
Regards,
Sandeep

At 09:45 AM 08-05-10, you wrote:

Sir,
It cannot be dowloaded as a single file.
You have to go to the separate page one-byone and copy and paste the tutorial.
I am pasting here the entire tutorial for all the Access Indians.

Facebook basic navigation with a screen reader
Facebook is navigable and it's main functions are completely
accessible with a screen reader. You just need to know what to look
for and how to interact with the Facebook layout.
Screen reader users do not need to use "mobiel" mode.
Within your Facebook page there is a lot of information which is
irrelevent, so be prepared to skip over it and find the stuff you
really want/need.
The following tips and tricks will have you interacting with Facebook
in no time.
Reading posts and status updates
When you log into Facebook, you are, by default, on your Facebook "home" page.
The page is divided into many headings. You can move through the
headings by pressing the letter H. The first heading we are concerned
with is the heading level 2 titled, "News feed".
Just above the News Feed heading are 2 possible links.
These are
1. "most recent" and
2. "top news".
Think of these 2 links as a toggle.
Activate the "most recent" link to sort the updates, which will be
listed further down the page.
This list will be sorted chronologically from most recent to oldest.
Just press the letter H to move from one post heading to the nexct.
Activate the "top news" link to view a random list showing posts by a
selection of your friends FB updates.
All Facebook posts are listed beginning with a heading containing your
friend's name, so move through these updates by pressing the letter H.
If there is a particular update or "news story", you are interested
in, you can arrow down to find out more information, make comments on
the information, indicate that you "like" the post, or view others
comments listed about the post.
Older posts
After skipping through the headings/status updates, that is to say the
Facebook posts from your friends, you will eventually loop back to the
top of your page.
You can extend the list of these Facebook "news stories" by finding
and activating the link titled "this page link older posts".
This will add more of your friend's stories to the bottom of the list
you were just viewing. This means you will have to navigate back down
to that spot in order to view them.

Tip: To quicly find the "older posts" link, you can use your links list or:
Perform a text search for the word "older".
• Press Ctrl F.
• A dialogue box will appear. Enter the word "older" and press Enter.
• Focus will move to the word/link "older posts".
• Pressing Enter will activate the "older posts" link thus adding
older posts to the current list of your Facebook friend's postings.
Commenting on, and liking Facebook posts.
Your Facebook friend news feed posts might simply be what's on their
mind, and these posts could also include links to videos, articles,
other interesting Web pages etc.
If you come across one of your Facebook friend's posts, and you want
to comment on it, arrow down to the edit "write a comment...edit".
Type your comment, Tab to the post comment button and press spacebar.
Often times, however, there will not be a "write your comment" edit
box. There will in this case simply be the word "comment". meaning
it's not a link or an edit field. If this is the case:
• move to the word "comment" directly beneath the heading associated
with that particular post.
• Arrow over to the letter O in comment, and press Enter.
• An edit box will open so press the letter E to move to the edit
field, turn forms mode on and type your comment.
• To post your comment, press Tab to move focus to the "comment
button", and press spacebar.
To view comments
Beneath your friend's posts others might have made comments.
By default, Facebook will show 2 of these comments. You can arrow down
to have your screen reader read these.
If, however, there are more than 2 comments, you can press spacebar on
the "view all comments" button.
The page will refresh and all comments will then be displayed.
Changing your Facebook status
To change your Facebook status
• From your Facebook hoem page, press the letter E, to move to the
edit field labelled, "what's on your mind?".
• Type whatever you like. Remember that your name is preceeded by the
text you type.
• Tab to the "share button" and press spacebar
Note: You can paste a link URL as part of your status update and it
will become an active link.

How to find your Facebook friends.
This tutorial will help you find a list of your Facebook friends, how
to send them messages and wall posts.
To find your Facebook friends, just follow these steps:
1. From your Facebook home page, activate the "profile" link.
2. Beneath the heading titled "Friends", there is a l

Hi,

I have installed the latest version and I use jaws 8.

Hi Sandeep,

The hunger strike was called off in hour 33 as the CM signed and is sending
the letter to the railway minister.

DRA-TN has a blog specifically for railways related issues for PWD - it's a
work in progress so please contribute your resources
tohttp://draindiarail.blogspot.com

All updates on this topic are carried there including NDTV-Hindu's coverage
of the fast.

The last information received from Rajiv Rajan, activist is "Hi, Cautious

It's okay if you are interested in teaching in special schools. But I

I don't know from where you have done the course. But for employment,
get into touch with Enable India, Banglore. Write a mail to

[AI] Information needed from visually impaired of Kerala state.

2010-05-08 Thread govind reddy
Dear list members,
I've heard on ETV that a boy called Akilesh from the state of Kerala
has invented a set of spectacles to help the visually impaired
visualise the objects with a sound.
These spectacles which appear as the normal once, work with the help
of a battery attached to the belt that we ware on our waist.
It just gives us a sound if an object is detected while we walk on the
road. In other words, it just replaces the white cane we use to walk
on the roads.
It could be a great help if it really works well.
It just costs us only Rs 250.
The boy belongs to a very poor family and spent a great deal of money
to invent this particular device.
Therefore, he's unable to market this device properly.
Has any one from Kerala state possess some information on this?
One more thing is that he is ready to modify it if required.
Therefore, I want to buy this device and encourage him to invent many
more devices like this.
If any one from Kerala has some info on this, please share it with the list.
Also send me the address and phone numbers of that boy if possible.
I'm ready to buy the same and use it.
If it works well, my dream of walking with out a cane will be realised.
Any help and information in this regard will greatly be appriciated.
Thanking you,
