Re: [AI] any specificPDA for blinds.

2010-07-27 Thread Kiran Kaja
A few things to note here. If portability is extremely important, then your
options are limited. There is PacMate which is rubbish hardware. It is huge
and clunky. There is BrailleNote Apex and VoiceNote Apex which are sleek

but have a custom user interface but are highly productive. There is also
Braille Sense.

On the other hand, the best note-taking device I found is the netbook. These
days, they are not expensive and they are extremely portable. And you can
use NVDA for basic note-taking tasks and also internet.

The iPhone 3GS / iPhone 4 with an external braille display / keyboard is
another option. I am testing this combo and it works great. You can leave
your iPhone in a bag or your pocket and control it via the braille display's
keyboard. And PDFs can be read as well. but the hole setup is ridiculously
expensive.

It is better not to consider Android for now. the accessibility of this
platform is very flaky at present.

Kiran

[AI] Q And A

2010-07-27 Thread Sanjay

POWER OUT

Q. I recently moved my five-year-old HP PC into a different room, during
which
time the power was off for 2hrs. The machine now refuses to boot up. The
only
sign of life is a flashing power LED on the case. How can I fix this?
Peter

A. It sounds as though the power supply unit (PSU) has developed a fault
and
may need to be replaced. Your PC is unlikely to still be under warranty, so
you
should look for a new PSU at an online retailer or local PC shop. Visit
HP's
support page for power LED issues at tinyurl.com/ydebveq.

MORE HASTE, LESS SPEED

Q. I installed RegTool on my PC. Startup and running speeds were greatly
improved and I was initially impressed. Fast-forward a few months and
RegTool
is pestering me to update it at every startup. Kaspersky blocks the
download,
stating that it carries a known virus. What should I do? Robert Ford

A. The bad news, Robert, is that RegTool has been widely reported as a fake
Registry-optimisation application. The good news is that Kaspersky is doing
its
job.

Now we have to get your system cleaned up. First, grab a copy of our old
stalwart CCleaner ( ccleaner.com). This is a reputable system and Registry
cleaning utility.

Run CCleaner and have it delete all your temporary files - particularly the
temporary internet files. Now go to Start, Search, type msconfig and press
Enter. Click the Startup tab and deselect any programs labelled RegTool or
those you don't recognise (you can turn them back on if you later find you
need
them).

Next, go to Start, right-click Computer, Properties, Advanced, System
Settings,
then System Protection. Click System Restore and, in the next window, tick
the
box next to 'Turn off system protection'. This will turn off System Restore
and
prevent you later rolling back the machine to find yourself in the same
RegTool
situation.

Now uninstall RegTool from Start, Control Panel, Programs and Features.
Reboot.

Run CCleaner's Registry-cleaning utility to check for any files that have
been
left behind. Also launch Kaspersky and get it to run a full system scan.

Finally, turn System Restore back on and create a new restore point. You
should
now be free of RegTool and any installation files it has left behind.

LEFT SPEECHLESS

Q. I'm keen to back up as much data as I can on my Windows 7 PC in case the
hard drive dies. I've found ways to save copies of my emails, calendar
data,
cookies, document files and so on, but I'm stuck when it comes to backing up
my
speech-recognition files. How can I do this? John Bagnall

A. Speech-recognition profiles can be backed up using the free Microsoft
Speech
Profile Manager tool ( tinyurl.com/qcrls). Download the program and unzip
it to
a safe location. Double-click SpProfileMgr.exe to launch the utility,
highlight
the profile you want to back up and click Export.

MONEY MATTERS

Q I'm still using Microsoft Money 2005, but would like to transfer my
accounts
to a more substantial package. The trouble is, I can't find any programs
compatible with the .mbx file extension.

Sage, Accountz, TAS, Mamut, MYOB and Quicken haven't been able to help.
Microsoft Accounting states that you can import Money, yet Mamut (which now
maintains this product) says otherwise. R Johnson

A. Frustratingly, Microsoft has discontinued the UK versions of its
accounting
packages. With the market being joined by larger, more affordable products,
the
company may have decided that catering for the pound simply isn't as
cost-effective as producing a euro version that could be used by customers
in
more than a dozen countries.

Fortunately, Microsoft Money can export files in the Quicken (.qif) format
(head
to tinyurl.com/ycgt2jz for instructions). Packages compatible with Quicken
are
far easier to find, including Accountz, Sage and MYOB.

You may have to perform a few tweaks to the export file before importing it
to
another program, but there is plenty of advice on how to do so at the
various
accounting packages' help sites.

DELETED IDENTITY

Q. A little while ago I deleted my user account and created a new one. I
wrongly assumed that I'd still be able to access the files on the deleted
account. Are they lost forever? Rob Mason

A. When you delete a user profile you're invited to also delete their files
and
folders. If you can't remember agreeing to this, look in C:\users (where C
is
your main drive) for a folder containing documents from the old profile. If
it's not there, it's been deleted.

All hope is not lost, however, and you may find that a free file-recovery
utility such as Recuva ( recuva.com) can turn up your missing files. Use
the
'Deep scan' option if the files have been missing for a while, but this will
take some time to complete.

OUT OF TUNE

Q. My three-month-old Acer Z5610 all-in-one PC runs Windows 7. I recently
tried to install iTunes, but AppleMobileDevice refuses to play ball. Acer
blames Apple; Apple blames Acer. With my brand-new PC unable to run such a

[AI] Feedback on subcommittee reports

2010-07-27 Thread Asudani, Rajesh
Friends
I would come up with my feedback on remaining seven subcommittee reports on AI
blog in a couple of days, and would send it to relevant authorities also.
Meanwhile, a cursory reading of various reports leads me to think that drafting
committee members are hijacked, so to say, by proponents of rights of
mentally illness. they do not even talk of mental retardation but only of
mental disease only.

In the first place, it is the basic fallacy to deal with situation of persons
with sensory and physical impairments on the one hand and those with mental
retardation or illness on the other in same manner, or for that matter even in
the same act.
It is the fallacy which has been systematically promoted legally socially
governmentally and even philosophically.
Practically of course, average attitude of a person's towards disabled is more
or less same as if they are deranged mentally.
So, if now, champions in the disability field have recognized it as valid and
are bent upon giving it legal sanction, then persons with sensory and physical
impairments cannot hope for any worse days.

Disease should be treated like disease and disability like a disability.
Disability even physical arising out of disease, say, orthopedic disability
arising from Parkinson's disease, is a disability, but Parkinson's disease is a
separate condition and should not be included in disability act, and only its
consequence, in some cases when it happens, can be regarded as disability.

Mental retardation and illness may warrant treatment and welfare measures at
best, and it should be confined to that.
Equating physically and sensorily impaired persons with mentally challenged by
including them in same act or policies is a clear violation of article 14,
legally, and and, insult socially.
I clarify here that learning disability is another thing and it should be
properly defined and included in act which they have not done.

I would like to hear comments from friends about this and do something to
rescue drafting committee from such domination.

Well actually,
This captivates me too.
I believe I can manage with the communication part, just don’t know
about the technicalities of studio.
Is there a way out?
Also, I will be interested to know about the placement opportunities
after completing this program.

@Nab team,
is it possible to have a crash course giving the studio training
alone, leaving the communication part?
A crash course will take just a few days for me to learn the
technicalities, which I think I can manage to pursue by living in
delhi for a few days.

Well, I’m seriously interested to do this course, but can’t shift to
delhi due to works and studies.

Please, arrange something.

[AI] what is SAR value ?

2010-07-27 Thread labhendra mhatre
Information on Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) values
To communicate with the network, mobile phones emit low levels of
radio waves (also known as radiofrequency or 'RF' energy) when being
used. Governments around the world have adopted comprehensive
international safety guidelines, developed by independent scientific
organizations, governing the exposure to RF energy. Mobile phones are
designed to operate within these stringent limits.

What is SAR?
SAR stands for Specific Absorption Rate, which is the unit of
measurement for the amount of RF energy absorbed by the body when
using a mobile phone. The SAR is determined at the highest certified
power level in laboratory conditions. However, the actual SAR level
of the phone while operating can be well below this value. This is
because the phone is designed to use the minimum power required to
reach the network. Therefore, the closer you are to a base station,
the more likely it is that the actual SAR level will be lower.

Does a lower SAR mean that a phone is safer?
No. Variations in SAR do not mean that there are variations in safety.
While there may be differences in SAR levels among phone models, all
mobile phones must meet RF exposure guidelines.

[AI] Waveban Cell phone Radiation Shield

2010-07-27 Thread labhendra mhatre
Effects of cell phone radiations on Humans
The cell phones effects on Human body are classified into Thermal and
Non-Thermal effects.

Thermal effects are due to tissues being heated by rotations of
molecules induced by the electromagnetic field. The surfaces close to
the phone is induced to heat, which activates the “heat-shock
proteins”. Repeated activation of such proteins hardens the cell
membrane due to which the nutrients are kept out and waste products
in. Accumulation of wastes inside the cells creates a higher
concentration of free radicals, leading to cellular dysfunctions and
cancerous transformation of the cells.

Non-thermal effects are caused due to constant low-frequency “pulsing”
of the carrier signals. These comparatively strong electromagnetic
radiations interferes with the weak biofield (the electromagnetic
field generated by body cells for inter cellular communications) as an
invader, which induces various protective biochemical reactions that
alter physiology and cause disturbance in metabolic functions
resulting in intracellular free-radical buildup, leakage in the
blood-brain barrier, leakage of hemoglobin in blood cells genetic
damages such as single and double stranded DNA breakage, Damages DNA
repair mechanism, and reverses cell membrane polarity.

Many studies have been conducted globally which conclude with various
health risks caused due chronic exposure to radiations from mobile
phones, for more in-depth information view articles posted on our
website.

The intensity of radiation emitted from your cell phone when someone
calls you are almost 10 times higher than the intensity of radiations
while you talk, which gets easily absorbed by human body. Thus its
important to safeguard from such radiations.
Blocking the direct entry of cell phone radiations onto human body by
using Waveban Cellphone Radiation Shield is the best precautionary
solution to avoid health risks from such radiations.

Waveban Cell phone Radiation Shield acts as a shield between the
cellphone user and the cellphone simply by blocking the entry of
radiations emitted from the cellphone, while carrying in shirt or
trouser pocket.

Waveban Cellphone Radiation Shield by “Waveban Technologies” is an
easy to use card which fits comfortably into your pocket or can be
trimmed to fit into cellphone pouch. Waveban cellphone radiation
shield consists of multiple ultra-fine layers of radiation blocking
materials in fibrous form sandwiched between rigid plastic coating for
durability.

How to use?

It works on simple principle of blocking the passage of radiations
through it. So simply place the waveban cell phone radiation shield
card behind your cell phone while carrying in your pocket or pouch, as
a shield between you and your cellphone. And always use your wired
earphones while talking. This way you are absolutely safe from cell
phone radiations.

The cell phone radiation level displayed in the Emf tester drops to
zero on placing the Waveban Cellphone Radiation Shield behind the
cellphone, which proves its efficiency of radiation shielding property

Re: [AI] Loadstone

2010-07-27 Thread Adhimoolam Vetrivel Murugan
There are certain factors to consider while using internal GPS
receivers like models like the N79, N82, N95, N86, N97, E71, E71X, E72
etc. Although internal receivers work, they are not that great if you
compare it with external receivers. For example, If your external
receiver gets signals from 11 satalites, your internal receivers can
hardly get signal from 8 satalites on the same spot and such
differences are very important in navigating around cities.
