[AI] A huge loss to world of music, News - City - Bangalore Mirror, Bangalore Mirror

A huge loss to world of music

Noted veena player Suma Sudhindra pays tribute to music doyen Pandit
Puttaraj Gawai, who passed away on Friday

Aruna Chandaraju

Posted On Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 03:53:18 AM

Pandit Puttaraj Gawai was one of the most respected and versatile
classical musicians of his time, respected not only for his
contribution to vocal music,
but also to instrumental music, theatre and literature.

Above all, his amazing triumph over visual disability became a source
of inspiration to many. Born visually challenged, Gawai mastered
Hindustani music
and performed widely to much acclaim, and also trained hundreds of students.

He was anointed head of the Veereshwara Punyashrama by his guru
Panchakshari Gawai. Pandit Gawai received many national and
state-level awards, including
the Sangeet Natak Akademi award, an honorary doctorate and most
recently, the Padma Bhushan.

Pandit Gawai’s death is a big loss to the world of music. Not only was
he a great musician but also groomed many accomplished students. He
will be remembered
not only for his music but also his unique school. He belongs to that
last great generation of legends who devoted themselves completely to
their art.
He gave all he had for the cause of music. He converted his disability
into a great ability.

Many visually challenged people do learn music but he took it to a
level which will ensure that he will be remembered and respected
forever.

Many honours came his way, but Pandit Gawai still remained very humble.

His spiritual inclinations, ability to sing and play several
instruments, and his authorship of many books were remarkable aspects
of his extraordinary
life.

Like many Hindustani musicians, he had a great sense of voice culture.
He was endowed with an amazing voice and he used it to maximum impact
in his highly
appreciated concerts. I have always loved Hindustani music and thus
enjoyed listening to him. I hope his students and the senior teachers
at his school
will carry forward his great legacy. That will be the greatest tribute
we can pay him. The north of Karnataka has such a wonderful history of
Hindustani
music. Karnataka is the only state which boasts of legendary musicians
in both forms. Pandit Gawai was one of those who made both his state
and country
proud.

Death at ashram
Pandit Puttaraj Gawai died in Gadag on Friday following prolonged
illness. He was 97.

Gawai, who was blind, was suffering from kidney failure and pneumonia.
He died at the Shree Veereshwara
Punyashrama, ashram sources said. He was shifted to the ashram from
the KLE Society Hospital in Belgaum, where he had been admitted on
Sept 5, as per his
wish, they said. Gawai was brought up in the ashram, a home for
thousands of visually challenged, where they are imparted education in
music.

[AI] Pandit Puttaraj Gavai the leading light of music passed away

Pandit Puttaraj Gavai the leading light of music passed away

Written by Sumi Hazarika

http://ic-technews.com/entertainment/1344-pandit-puttaraj-gavai-the-leading-ight-of-music-passed-away

The leading light of Music, Pandit Puttaraj Gavai, passed away today
at his ashram “Veereshwara Punyashram” in Gadag, in north Karnataka.
Born in 1914 he
was 97at the time of his death. He was admitted to KLE Society
hospital 2 weeks ago as he was suffering from respiratory problem and
had kidney failure.
His condition deteriorated as he failed to respond to treatment at a
hospital in Belgaum.

As per his last wishes the musician, Puttaraj Gavai was shifted in a
well-equipped ambulance accompanied by a team of doctors to his ashram
last Monday
in Gadag. Shivalinga Shastri Siddapura, a preacher at the ashram,
spoke to a News channel that Gavai's condition remained better than on
Monday when he
was shifted from the hospital.

Pandit Gavai, who lost his eyesight at a very early age, continued the
legacy of Pandit Panchakshara Gavai, and trained thousands of blind
students in
music at his Ashram. Pandit Gavai was honoured with 'Padmabhushan' in
2010, the 3rd most prestigious Civilian Award. He was also awarded the
'Kanaka Purandara'
and 'Kalidas Sanman' award. Pandit Puttaraj Gavai was also selected
for N Vajrakumar Abhinandana Puraskar Samiti Award 2009. He has
written more than 80
books in Kannada, Sanskrit and Hindi. He re-wrote the Bhagavad Gita in
Braille script.

The music maestro, Puttaraj Gavai was the successor of the ashram
“Veereshwara Punyashram”,after his guru. More than 1000 childrens who
are physically
handicapped reside in the ashram. They are taught music and given
education by Pandit Gavai and other preachers in the ashram.
Meanwhile, people from different
parts of the region multitude to Veereshwara Punyashrama in Gadag
following the news of Pt. Gavai's death.

‘It is a general belief that a singer cannot be a poet and a poet
cannot be a preacher,ie, many think that a single person cannot master
more than one
art. But Dr.Puttaraj Gawai is a glowing example that contradicts this theory.

[AI] Pandit Puttaraj Gavai: A beacon for thousands

2010-09-17 Thread pradeep banakar
Folks, this time I am sharing sad news to all. I am requesting all
the NGO's to include Pandit Puttaraj Gavai success stories in their
websites
Regards
Pradeep

http://www.deccanherald.com/content/97287/pandit-puttaraj-gavai-beacon-thousands.html

Pandit Puttaraj Gavai: A beacon for thousands
Bangalore, Sept 17 (PTI):
Multi-faceted Hindustani and Carnatic vocalist, instrumentalist,
writer and seer Puttaraj Gavai overcame blindness to master several
genres of music, pen
books and engage in theatre.
An exponent of the Gwalior gharana, Puttaraj was born in 1914 at
Charanthimata in Karnataka's Dharwad district. He lost his father in
his infancy and began
his first music lessons under his uncle Chandrashekarayya.

His uncle sent Gavai to musician Gangayogi Panchakshara Gawai, under
whose tutelage Puttaraj blossomed.

Gavai's talent for learning languages did not go unnoticed by his
guru, who also engaged different masters to teach him various
languages, turning him
into a polyglot, well versed in Kannada, Sanskrit and Hindi.

He penned works -- literary, spiritual and musical -- in all these languages.

Gavai's zest for musical excellence also led him to master various
musical instruments, including the violin, tabla, harmonium, mridangam
and veena.

The master was bestowed with several awards both from states and the
Centre. He has been honoured with the Padma Bhushan, the Karnataka
Rajyotsav Award,
the Basvashri award, Kanaka Purandara Prashasti, Rajya Sangeet Vidwan Award.

The recitals of the guru and his disciples enthralled audiences,
leading to an invitation from HMV recording company in 1933. The duo
rendered Kanganava
Mora in Raag Kedari, Chaina Nahin Mere in Hageshri and two Kannada
Padas Magana Toogiro and Dhyanava Madiro. The records received a good
response in the
state.

Gavai's penchant for the literary word saw him penning many books on
music, including Sangeet Shastra Jnana and Tabla Shikshaka GuruSudha
in two volumes.
In Kannada, he wrote several books, including Akkamahadevi Purana,
Siddeswara Purana, Purathanara Purana Veerabhadreshwara Purana and
Sharana Basaveshwara
Purana.

You can contact Sense International. I am copying below some information on
this organisation.

Sense International (India) was established in 1997 as a Public Charitable
Trust with an aim to ensure that all deafblind people in the country have
access to the advice, opportunities and support, which will enable them to
exercise their right to be full and active members of society. As a result
of the work of Sense International (India), there are now 38 deafblind
programmes in 19 States of India.

Their contact details are as follow-

*Sense International (India)*
2nd Floor, Administrative Block,
Andhajan Mandal Campus,
Opp. IIM,
Vastrapur,
Ahmedabad- 380015.

Phone : +91-79-2630 1282
Fax : +91-79-2630 1590

*Deafblind helpline*

Re: [AI] Laptop battery level

2010-09-17 Thread Zujar
I too faced a similar issue earlier. The laptop worked on power but did not
recharge the battery. My sister checked the adapter at the laptop end and
informed that a pin was a little tilted. She straightened the tilted pin
with her hair pin and the battery recharged when connected to power supply.
It's working fine since then (more than 2 years past).

This is one clue. Maybe it helps!

it cannot make arrangements for accommodation for people coming from

Hope that clarifies. Zainab, do you have anything to add?

Also check if the Active Speech option is somehow disabled. You can find
this option in the Settings menu, General or Configuration dialogue box.
Similarly, check which speech engine is selected in the Settings menu,
Voices dialogue box for both the reading and system voice. Try selecting a
different speech engine.

Namdeo,
Thanks for your note. However. There was no mention that Ratina India
do make arrangements for accommodation to local participants. Indeed,
it cannot make arrangements for accommodation for people coming from
outside but as mention guidance shall be provided to find a
accommodation.

Hope that clarifies. Zainab, do you have anything to add?

2010-09-17 Thread Rohiet A. Patil

Hello!
Please don't misunderstand my statement. There is no question of arranging
accomodation for local participants. It's a one day trip so that I am not
talking regarding the accomodation during the picnic, I mean to say that
they will have to arrange accomodation for previous night. Because
ofcourse we are starting early in the morning at 7 A.M. and obviously
outside participants can not reach at that time.

Hope you understand what I mean to say.
Thanks and regards,

It of course is very funny that, you can
arange accomodation for local participants and not for others. If you are
not responsible for the arangement of accomodation for those who
would be coming from the places other than Poonay, then in the 1st place
you

should not organise such event which you are not capable of. Now since you
have organised it, you should not take trouble of inviting those members

[AI] Now, recharge your mobile phone via wireless

2010-09-17 Thread Vikas Kapoor
Now, recharge your mobile phone via wireless
September 16, 2010 18:11 IST
The tangled chargers could soon be a thing of past, as Japanese scientists have
developed a system that would allow you recharge your mobile phones and laptops
wirelessly.

Developed by Japanese technology firm Fujitsu [ Get Quote ], the system is
capable of simultaneously charging multiple portable electronic devices such as
mobile phones, digital cameras and laptop computers without the need for cable
connections.

According to the company, electric cars users may also eventually be able to
charge their vehicles wirelessly using the same system that will be available
by 2012.

Fujitsu has recently unveiled a prototype system at an Institute of
Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers conference at Osaka
Prefecture University.

"This technology paves the way to integrating compact wireless charging
functions into mobile phones and enabling multiple portable devices to be
charged simultaneously without any restrictions on their position with respect
to the charger," the company said in a statement.

Claiming to be the world's first of its kind, the technology works on the basis
of the transmission of electricity using magnetic fields between the charger
and the electronic device.

The system enables wireless charging at distances of up to several metres, with
the ultimate aim of installing public "charging spots" on the streets in order
to enable easy charging around the clock, the Telegraph reported.

Scientists at Fujitsu Laboratories are planning to commercially sell products
incorporating the new wireless charging system as early as 2012 but did not
disclose how much they would cost.

The company hopes that the soaring popularity of portable electronic devices
ranging from iPads to e-readers is expected to fuel a boom in wireless
recharging technology developments over the coming decade.

Mobile phone users in Japan [ Images ] can currently top up their batteries
using disposable portable plug-in battery-operated devices available at most
train stations and convenience stores although phone companies warn prolonged
use can damage the phones.

The new system by Fujitsu, however, is significantly more sophisticated and
represents the next generation of portable recharging systems using highly
tuned wireless technology.

The company added: "We are also looking at applying the results of this work to
fields other than portable electronics, including power transmission between
circuit boards or computer chips, and providing mobile charging systems for
electric cars."

Hi Avinash,

I am not that well versed in technology. But I can suggest you a few things.

1. Take sighted assistance, and convert all the books into word or rtf format.

2. Try to install a later version of Kurzweil.

3. Try to see if any settings of Kurzweil have been changed unintentionally.

If you don't find any solution, upload all the material, and I shall
convert them into word or rtf format for you.

Do feel free to contact me for any further guidance. My mobile number
