It doesn't read because it is quick office viewer. In order to access
the editing functions, you need the paid version and it costs around
20 USD.

You can cut/copy/paste text in text editor (like message editor, contact
edit window, etc) by following the steps below:

 1. In the editor window, press Key1 or Options key to open Options menu.
 2. Arrow down to 'Editing Options' submenu, press RIGHT ARROW or SELECT
 key
 to open the submenu.
 3. Select Cut or Copy as desired.
 4. Place the cursor at the start of text to copy or move using arrow keys.
 5. Press Key1 or Options key to start selection.
 6. Select text using arrow keys. Note that TALKS speaks the next character
 when selecting text.
 7. Press Key1 or Options key when done with selection. TALKS says ttext
 copied to clipboard.
 8. Place the cursor at the point in editor where you wish to paste.
 9. Press Key1 or Options key to open Options menu once again.
 10. Arrow down to 'Editing Options' submenu, press RIGHT ARROW or SELECT
 key
 to open the submenu.
 11. Select Paste from the submenu.

It looks like a too lengthy procedure. Once you do it successfully, you'd
 find it quite easy.

[AI] International Conference on Enabling Access to Education through ICT

2010-09-19 Thread harish
Subject: International Conference on Enabling Access to Education through
ICT

Dear Friends,
We are organising an international conference on Enabling Access to
Education through ICT in Delhi in October. The target group is primarily
educational institutions (from schools to college), disability organisations
and policy makers. Would really appreciate your help in circulating the call
for participation to the schools and colleges you are in touch with.

Many thanks, Nirmita

Call for participation

International Conference on Enabling Access to Education Through ICT

When: 27th-29th October, 2010
Where:Magnolia Hall, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi

Organisers:
Centre for Internet and Society
The Global Initiative for Inclusive ICT (G3Ict) UNESCO ITU WIPO Daisy
Consortium Digital Empowerment Foundation Society for Promotion of
Alternative Computing and Employment The Deaf Way Foundation

Event sponsor:
The Hans Foundation

Target audience:
Educators, mainstream and special schools, colleges, universities,
disability organisations, policy makers, libraries, technology developers
and other persons and organisations working in this area.

Background:
Children with disabilities in India are often left out of mainstream schools
due to a variety of reasons, primarily the lack of awareness amongst
educational organizations and teachers, near absence of infrastructural
resources and lack of training in this regard. It is believed that barely
two per cent of the 70 million disabled persons have access to education in
India. Unless we take special efforts to remedy this situation by equipping
teachers, educational institutions and the entire social infrastructure to
adopt innovative, cost effective and technology based resources such as
assistive technologies, ubiquitous Web, multiple platforms, social networks,
online libraries and digital resources etc to enable access to education for
disabled children, they will continue to remain excluded from social
participation.

Join the Discussion!
The conference will focus on highlighting existing policy and practical
barriers for students and educational institutions in developing countries,
showcase ICT based solutions which are presently being adopted in different
countries, point to existing knowledge resources and emerging trends in
education.
The conference will look at the various technologies, tools and practices
that are necessary to bring education within the reach of all persons with
disabilities as a step towards achieving inclusive education in India. This
includes education at all levels- primary, secondary and higher education as
well as distance and online education.

The format of the conference is highly engaging and is designed to enable
the attendees to explore the challenges and opportunities while equipping
them with the tools needed to implement ICT solutions within their
organizations.

The expected outcomes from this conference are:
• Create awareness amongst educators, policy makers and disability
organizations

• Understand challenges and explore solutions
• Evolve a set of recommendations for educators on best practices
• Publish a White Paper which will provide a set of recommendations for
policy makers on inclusive education.
• Create a case study database of best practices on the use of ICTs in
education for persons with disabilities.

Dr. Abdul Kalam's Letter to Every Indian

[image: APJ Abdul Kalam at Speech]*Why is the media here so negative?
**Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognize our own strengths, our
achievements?
We are such a great nation. We have so many amazing success stories but we
refuse to acknowledge them. Why?
We are the first in milk production.
We are number one in Remote sensing satellites.
We are the second largest producer of wheat.
We are the second largest producer of rice.
Look at Dr. Sudarshan , he has transferred the tribal village into a
self-sustaining, self-driving unit.. There are millions of such achievements
but our media is only obsessed in the bad news and failures and disasters.
I was in Tel Aviv once and I was reading the Israeli newspaper. It was the
day after a lot of attacks and bombardments and deaths had taken place. The
Hamas had struck. But the front page of the newspaper had the picture of a
Jewish gentleman who in five years had transformed his desert into an orchid
and a granary. It was this inspiring picture that everyone woke up to. The
gory details of killings, bombardments, deaths, were inside in the
newspaper, buried among other news.*

[image: APJ Abdul Kalam at Speech1]*In India we only read about death,
sickness, terrorism, crime.. Why are we so NEGATIVE? Another question: Why
are we, as a nation so obsessed with foreign things? We want foreign T.Vs,
we want foreign shirts. We want foreign technology.*

*Why this obsession with everything imported. Do we not realize that
self-respect comes with self-reliance? I was in Hyderabad giving this
lecture, when a 14 year old girl asked me for my autograph. I asked her what
her goal in life is.. She replied: I want to live in a developed India . For
her, you and I will have to build this developed India . You must proclaim.
India is not an under-developed nation; it is a highly developed nation.*

*..
**YOU say that our government is inefficient.
YOU say that our laws are too old.
YOU say that the municipality does not pick up the garbage.
YOU say that the phones don't work, the railways are a joke. The airline is
the worst in the world, mails never reach their destination.
YOU say that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits.*

*YOU say, say and say.. What do YOU do about it?*

*Take a person on his way to Singapore . Give him a name - 'YOURS'. Give him
a face - 'YOURS'. YOU walk out of the airport and you are at your
International best. In Singapore you don't throw cigarette butts on the
roads or eat in the stores. YOU are as proud of their Underground links as
they are.. You pay $5 (approx. Rs.. 60) to drive through Orchard Road
(equivalent of Mahim Causeway or Pedder Road) between 5 PM and 8 PM. YOU
come back to the parking lot to punch your parking ticket if you have over
stayed in a restaurant or a shopping mall irrespective of your status
identity… In Singapore you don't say anything, DO YOU? YOU wouldn't dare to
eat in public during Ramadan, in Dubai .. YOU would not dare to go out
without your head covered in Jeddah.
YOU would not dare to buy an employee of the telephone exchange in London at
10 pounds (Rs..650) a month to, 'see to it that my STD and ISD calls are
billed to someone else.'YOU would not dare to speed beyond 55 mph (88 km/h)
in Washington and then tell the traffic cop, 'Jaanta hai main kaun hoon (Do
you know who I am?). I am so and so's son. Take your two bucks and get
lost.' YOU wouldn't chuck an empty coconut shell anywhere other than the
garbage pail on the beaches in Australia and New Zealand ..
Why don't YOU spit Paan on the streets of Tokyo ? Why don't YOU use
examination jockeys or buy fake certificates in Boston ??? We are still
talking of the same YOU. YOU who can respect and conform to a foreign system
in other countries but cannot in your own. You who will throw papers and
cigarettes on the road the moment you touch Indian ground. If you can be an
involved and appreciative citizen in an alien country, why cannot you be the
same here in India ?*

[image: APJ Abdul Kalam at Speech2]*In America every dog owner has to clean
up after his pet has done the job. Same in Japan ..
Will the Indian citizen do that here?' He's right. We go to the polls to
choose a government and after that forfeit all responsibility.

Subject: Exciting Announcement from TechBridgeWorld regarding the Braille
Writing Tutor Project

 Dear Colleagues,

As you know, TechBridgeWorld has been enhancing work on the Braille Writing
Tutor which was first developed through our V-Unit program by Nidhi Kalra and
Tom Lauwers when they were Ph.D. students in the Robotics Institute at Carnegie
Mellon University. Since then, dozens of faculty, students, staff, and partners
have contributed to the success of this project. The Braille Writing Tutor now
has functionality in several languages (English, Arabic, French, Chinese,
Swahili, and Bangla), enhanced practice modes, and several educational games
have been developed and tested with community partners.

We are delighted to announce that version 2 of the Braille Writing Tutor
hardware specifications and an early release of the corresponding software are
now available on SourceForge at the following link:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/tbwbrailletutor/

Please share this link with your friends and colleagues, especially those who
work with people who are visually impaired and technologists in the open source
community who would be interested in working with the software and sharing
additional language and game functions they might come up with.

The latest work with the Braille Writing Tutor project will be featured at our
upcoming 2010 TechBridgeWorld Interactive event, scheduled for November 11,
2010, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the Newell-Simon Hall Perlis Atrium at Carnegie
Mellon's Pittsburgh campus. If you will be in Pittsburgh at that time we
welcome you to attend and enjoy the event! Details will be posted at
www.TechBridgeWorld.org/Interactive2010.

The Braille Writing Tutor project remains a vibrant and exciting effort among
TechBridgeWorld students, faculty and staff and our partners. I have attached a
few quotes to share with you from this summer's work in Chittagong, Bangladesh
to illustrate the importance of this project and how you have contributed to
its long-term success.

We are happy to address any questions you may have about the project and hope
you are as excited as we are about this open source release of this important
technology!

 Sincerely,
--Sarah, on behalf of the TechBridgeWorld Team

[AI] Facebook launches location-aware service ‘Places’

2010-09-19 Thread Gopalakrishnan
Facebook launches location-aware service ‘Places’

London, September 19, 2010

PTI

Social networking website Facebook has launched a new service called ‘Places’
which allows users to share their location with their friends.
The service, which has prompted security fears, also tells users which of their
friends are at the same place or if they have ever “checked in” there before.

The new feature went live in Britain yesterday after its launch in the US last
month. It is one of a new raft of social networking services that use the GPS
function on many smartphones to work out exactly where a person is at any
point, the Daily Mail reported.

The application, which works like popular location—based social networking site
Foursquare, asks a user to click on the .

“Check In” button after logging into the website.

Once you click on the option, it displays a list of possible locations near
where they are. When the users selects one of the options, it allows their
friends to know about their location.

The service also lists nearby businesses and attractions, and Facebook will
target the locations it lists to each Places user.

“Facebook is a place to share information with people you know,” said Facebook
product manager Michael Sharon.

“We saw people were already using the site to tell people where they are, so
the natural thing was to build a product to make this easier. This just
formalises what people were doing anyway.”

Facebook, which has come under fire over its attitude towards privacy in the
past, has installed a set of stringent new rules for its Places application.

Unlike other “always on” services, this application is optional and a user’s
location is not stored unless they check in or accept a tag from a friend.
Check—ins are defaulted to friends—only rather than everyone on Facebook.

In the “People Here Now” section users can see others who are checked in with
you at that place. This section is visible for a limited amount of time and
only to people who are checked in there, the website said.

Re: [AI] Thanks to Mr. Pradip Punekar

2010-09-19 Thread pradeep banakar
Hi Neelima, Thanks for your response and great idea, unfortunately our
government is not ready to recognize these achievers until and unless
they have political advantage out of it. Coming to music, many people
believe that it is easy job. Those who know more about it, they will
realize how difficult and hardwork it requires. Some of our own NGO’s
are showing discrimination towards Hindustani music especially in
giving scholarships and other facilities to Visually Impaired Person.
We need to have separate strategies to avoid such mistakes in the near
future.

Pradeep

Yes, Karnataka is only the city who respects a lot of artists. They
not only respect the classical singer but also the singer who are
leading in this age very well. they respect not only from their
states artists but also the other states: like Sonu Nigam. Who is a
 well-known singer.

Now, my question is whatever we are doing for these artists after
their absence. Why is it? Can't we do something for them in their

Mr. Punekar what can we do for it. Can you suggest something for it.

environment where server and client interface is needed. Where as,
windows XP is for individual use.

Hi there,
Anyone can please explain me, why, on my laptop it always shows the level of
battery at 15% and when plugged inn same? Also when plugged inn, it says
15% remaining, plugged inn, not charging. Why is that and how can I fix
it? Mention I am having a Dell with Vista on.
Thanks,
Adina
