to get rid over from this, just turn off the instent search from the

Dear friends, as I am planing to purchase a flat in Pondicherry, I
would like to know if any relaxation or concession is available for
the visually challenged people in registration fees. If so, I would
appreciate if any could provide me with the circular pertaining to the
same. Your timely support is highly appreciable.

Hello,
When any external hardware is connected then do the following:
1. Press Insert + F11 for system tray.
2. Select the option safely remove hardware.
3. Press tab to "left single click button"
4. a context menu will appear with the following information, "safely
remove hardware and the drive name to which your external hardware is

select the drive from the list with the help of arrow keys.
5. Now press enter. you will hear an information "safe to remove hardware".
cheers!

[AI] Fwd: good news for those who have issues with corneas.

2010-09-20 Thread nithin jain
-- Forwarded message --
From: girish v
Date: Mon, 20 Sep 2010 11:41:04 +0530
Subject: good news for those who have issues with corneas.
To: "girish.loveall"

This is a good news to most of our friends.

Artificial corneas restore sight for the first time

Scientists hope the breakthrough will also slash the cornea transplant
waiting list which every year falls short by more than 500 in Britain alone.

The new technique involves growing human tissue or collagen in the
laboratory and then shaping it using a contact lens mould.

Damaged and scarred tissue from the front of the eye is then removed and the
"biosynthetic" replacement is stitched in its place.

Eventually existing cells and nerves in the eye grow over the artificial
cornea incorporating it fully into the eye.

The first trials of the operation have shown that it is just as successful
as live tissue transplantation and in some cases patients have had their
sight fully restored.

Dr May Griffiths, of Linköping University, in Sweden, said: "We were very
excited by the results.

"This study is the first to show an artificially fabricated cornea can
integrate with the human eye and stimulate regeneration.

"With further research, this approach could help restore sight to millions
of people who are waiting for a donated human cornea for transplantation.

"There is a shortage of donors and this could solve that problem. It can
also be done at a fraction of the cost."

The cornea is a vulnerable shield or lens protecting the eye and plays a key
role in creating vision.

It consists of three main layers – the endothelium, stroma and epithelium.

But many are damaged by scarring or disease causing blurring and even
complete vision loss very much like a lens of a camera being scratched.

A clinical trial of 10 patients with damaged corneas whose damaged tissue
was operated on and replaced with the artificial cornea, found vision
improved in six of them.

After contact lens fitting their sight was comparable to conventional
corneal transplantation with human donor tissue, according to the findings
published in Science Translational Medicine.

Humans are currently the only source of corneas for transplantation, and the
supply of donor tissue is limited.

In addition, the artificial corneas may actually work better than human
versions because they avoid the chance of infection or rejection.

Patients did not experience any rejection reaction or require long-term
immune suppression, which are serious side effects associated with the use
of human donor tissue.

The biosynthetic corneas also became sensitive to touch and began producing
normal tears to keep the eye oxygenated.

Globally, diseases that lead to clouding of the cornea affect more than 10
million people worldwide making them the most common cause of blindness.

More than a decade ago, Dr Griffith and her colleagues began developing
biosynthetic corneas using collagen produced in the laboratory and moulded
into the shape of a cornea.

After extensive laboratory testing Dr Griffith began collaborating with eye
surgeon Dr Per Fagerholm, also at Linköping University, to provide the first
human experience with biosynthetic cornea implantation.

Dr Fagerholm, said: "We are very encouraged by these results and by the
great potential of biosynthetic corneas.

"Further biomaterial enhancements and modifications to the surgical
technique are ongoing, and new studies are being planned that will extend
the use of the biosynthetic cornea to a wider range of sight-threatening
conditions requiring transplantation."

Hi Shadab:

Go to date and time properties then set date and time, press
control+tab twice here you will find Internet time page.
Here you have to check a checkbox
?Automatically synchronize with internet??
Press spacebar on update now and then press enter on ok button.

Seminar held on their problems in public, private sector units

BERHAMPUR: Visually challenged persons are yet to get conducive environment in
offices of the government, private and public sector units which is affecting
their employability in Orissa, opined experts at a seminar held in the city on
Sunday.
The seminar on the topic of issues and challenges related to unemployment of
visually challenged persons was organised by Milton Charitable Foundation for
the Visually Handicapped (MCFVH). The seminar was attended by a large number of
visually challenged youth for whom finding employment is a major issue.
The state of unemployed visually impaired persons was discussed in detail.
Sashi Prabha Bindhani from Human Rights Network took up the issues related to
reservation of posts in different sectors for the visually challenged.
It was pointed out that government and public sectors in Orissa were not
adhering to norms of reservation for visually impaired while filling the
vacancies. Senior advocate of Ganjam Bar Association Niranjan Nayak elucidated
the policies and programmes of the government regarding provision of employment
to the visually challenged persons.
Researcher M.K. Bisoyi in his address pointed out the lacking in official
environment was proving a major hindrance for employment of visually impaired
persons in both government and private institutions in Orissa.
Info demanded
The participants of the seminar demanded that in all offices there should be
provision of required information in Braille mode and in crowded large offices
there can be audio signals at strategic locations.
The youth attending the seminar said it was high time to have awareness
programmes on big scale for general public.

[AI] net offerings from google

2010-09-20 Thread Asudani, Rajesh
Fresh offerings from Google
'Instant' search speculates query and pushes search output

Recently Google has come out with a slew of new features meant for making
information retrieval further easy. A quick roundup of those features follows.
Google Instant
As you may have already noticed, Google has introduced a new feature called
'Instant' search, which helps you obtain search results as soon as you start
entering the string.
While you enter the search string, Google speculates your search intention and
displays search results based on its guess in real-time. This means the search
results will continue to change as you keep on entering the keyword/phrase. An
advantage of this innovation is that we can obtain results prior to completing
the full string and pressing the 'Enter' key. For instance, if you wish to view
the current time in Sydney, Google will display it as soon as you enter the
string 'time syd' - no need to finish the string and press the enter key. And
if you intend to do simple computations with Google, it will display the result
of an arithmetic expression at every stage - as soon as you begin entering a
term (like 12*13) Google will start displaying the result of the computation in
real-time. Of course, this feature may not be a huge productivity booster; but
still this could be fun and useful. As already mentioned when you start typing
in the search string Google speculates your search query and pushes the search
output based on its guess. As described in the blog post here
(http://www.researchbuzz. org/r/?p=2255), you can stop Google from guessing by
prefixing the first search term with a '+'. Once the initial search term is
prefixed with '+' Google will continuously display new search results for each
of your keystrokes.
Apart from being used as a search facilitator, 'Google Instant' could be
beneficial in other circumstances. For instance, an instructor teaching the
features of Google search may find it useful while demonstrating certain search
tricks. Another significant development in this domain is that the concept of
'instantifying' has triggered the imagination of skilled program- mers
worldwide and they are adopting it in different applications. One of them
replicated this idea to Youtube and created 'Youtube Instant'
(http://ytinstant.com/), an application to search Youtube videos in real-time.
As you enter the string the service anticipates your intention and
automatically starts playing a video based on its guess. As per the Venturebeat
report here (http://venturebeat.com/2010/09/10/youtube-instant-job/), this
application fetched the developer a job offer from Youtube. The application
'GoogleMaps Instant' is yet another instance of this trend. It seems a plethora
of such 'instantified' applications are coming up as can be seen from
Instantise, which offers links to several similar applications.
Some people consider Google Instant as a distraction or a gimmick. Though it is
too early to judge, one cannot simply ignore this innovation, which has the
potential to change one's search behaviour.
Finding right blogs
There cannot be two opinions on the significance of blog technology, which has
bestowed netizens with immense autonomy. It has become a major content
dissemination channel for organizations, professionals and even for lay
netizens. As a corollary, blogosphere has become a fertile ground for
information seekers. Anyone doing serious research cannot afford to ignore the
discussions taking place in the blogosphere. Regular scanning of blogs
pertaining to one's area is a must and it would certainly fetch his/her rich
dividends. However, despite the existence of many blog search engines (like
Technorati, BlogPulse and Blogcatalog), spotting the right blogs related to a
specific topic remains challenging even now. In this context, a new feature
introduced by Google in its blog search, assumes relevance. Google's blog
search has recently introduced a feature called 'Homepages" meant for helping
us easily find blogs related to a topic. For instance, if one invokes a 'blog
search' on the string 'statistics', he/she will obtain all the blog posts that
contain this string.
As you would already know, along with usual search results, Google offers
latest updates from social messaging and networking sites such as Twitter,
Facebook and Google Buzz too. Recently Google introduced a separate interface
for its real-time search feature (http://www.google.com/realtime/). An
advantage of this new facility is that it helps us sort the results according
to location, time etc.
Expert search
Besides being an effective communication/information dissemination tool,
Twitter helps us find subject experts. NetSpeak has already featured several
tools meant for locating experts via Twitter database (like Listorious and
Google Lab's 'Follow Finder'). If you are looking for yet another means to
discover people knowledgeable in a particular subject
