Dear Mukesh,

The matter of discrimination in Postal Life Insurance on extra premiums and
limited coverage to persons with disability is under challenge in the
Hon'ble High Court of Delhi. The PLI had during the course of arguments in
the court has issued a notification bringing the maximum sum assured to 1
lac but there are several lacunae which are being contested. The work
discrimination is that PLI is not allowed to persons with neurological
disabilities at all!

This is so funny, I can't tell you but the reasons that PLI cites in
its documents have no legal or clinical basis! Would keep the list updated
on this and let you know the developments as and when they occurs. For any
details, contact me off the list.

it was good to know that there are more devices likely to come in the
market as portable scanners. because, i find it very convenient to
move around with my laptop and portable scanner to get it scan the
handy pages at our finger tips.

as i am appearing for my higher studies examination, i need to scann
lot of books, journals, papers etc while visiting the libraries.

for this purpose, i have once used one scanner of cannon light 25
which turned to be not advisable for multiple scanning. because, after
scanning few pages say five or ten the scanner device used to go slow
down and sometimes stop working for few minutes. while enquiring with
my dealer, he informed me that this scanner is meant only for scanning
bills, memos etc but not for continuous scanning of books.

another difficulties was that the menus of the scanning program of my
cannon product were not accessible. but after configuring this device
with fine reader, i could easily locate the scan command with this
device.

so if possible, kindly let me know the product updates at your end if
you have tried scanning multiple pages with this device. i am very
keen to have such product.

 if possible, also share with me the dealer information in mumbai.

 One can use it with fine reader and do very fast scanning.  A good
 option for libraries and resource centers for doing mass scanning.

 About the accuracy we need to test thoroughly but is decent, no idea
 on exact resolution and scanned image quality.  I think I-ball has
 come up with this product for fast photo scanning.  Anyway we can try

i tried pressing the menu key for long, but it just said no new
messages in inbox and my purpose was not solved.
i also tried  pressing the menu key once and then  i selected options
key, but it did not give the desired option.

You are right one needs to thoroughly test new devices for its
robustness and accessibility for VI.  Also find whether is it worth
investing in it?  That’s where at XRCVC we try and test new devices.
We are a very first buyer of his unit in Mumbai.  We got this sample
unit on Saturday afternoon.  So still working and testing it.  Do not
want to make any comments at this moment unless I myself test it with
various test scenarios and environments / programs.   Soon I will
write my findings about ClickScan to the list.

 Dear Friends,

 Today at XRCVC we got one more instant scanner device.  It is not a
 specialized device like zoom-ex but a mainstream product from I-ball
 called ClickScan (a USB driven, small and portable).  The i-ball
 application to capture and do other operations is not keyboard
 friendly or JAWS accessible.  But a sighted can use it with mouse.  It
 has many features like scanner, copier, ocr, presenter and video
 recorder, etc. This is an instant scanner device.  This is very
 recently launched and costs around 6000/-

 One can use it with fine reader and do very fast scanning.  A good
 option for libraries and resource centers for doing mass scanning.

 We are still exploring it but thought to share this info with the list
 as it is exciting that for the price of 1/10th we have one option.
 About the accuracy we need to test thoroughly but is decent, no idea
 on exact resolution and scanned image quality.  I think I-ball has
 come up with this product for fast photo scanning.  Anyway we can try

College, Mumbai seeks your inputs to identify some of the most urgent needs in 
the arena of consumer access for the visually impaired. In order to ensure that 
our work is always guided by the ground realities and needs we seek your 
support.
 
We are doing a baseline survey for this purpose and the questionnaire is

Nagpur chapter of Blind Graduates forum of India, BGFI, a non-profit 
organization working for empowerment of visually challenged nationwide, was 
launched on the occasion of world disabled day.
The team of Nagpur  chapter was installed in the august presence of Shri  
BanvarilalJee  Purohit,
 ex-MP, and a well-known social worker on Saturday December 4, 2010, at Hindi 
Morbhavan Nagpur.

While welcoming the honorable guests and introducing BGFI, Dr. Vinod Asudani, 
National Secretary of the NGO, underlined progressive nature of its work in 
keeping visually challenged abreast in all the fields in 21st century. 
Thereafter, the team was installed by presenting all the members with a flower 
at the hands of Mr. Purohit and all pledged to work sincerely for the cause of 
visually challenged. Prof. Khapekar president of Nagpur chapter with vast 
experience in educational and social field, expressed full confidence in his 
team and declared that Nagpur chapter of BGFI is taking up creation of resource 
center for preparing visually challenged for various competitive exams in a 
holistic way. Shree Purohit expressed his full support for the NGO and the 
cause along with his entire group of media and educational institutions.

Mr. Rajesh Asudani and Adv. Dilip Chilbule gave demonstration of various things 
a visually challenged person can do by using technology including browsing net 
e mail, checking SMS etc. Dr. S.L. Deshpande, HoD PGTD Law RTMNU, in his 
presidential remarks, termed it a momentous occasion and urged the NGO to focus 
on education and employment as primary goals.

Following is the newly installed body of Nagpur chapter of Blind graduates 
forum of India:
